While Mark is undergoing complex surgery to remove his tumor, he suddenly becomes unresponsive and suffers a seizure, prompting worry from Elizabeth and the surgical team.

I believe In fact I know that mark and Elizabeth were a better match than him and Jennifer. Jennifer (his x-wife) knew that when they got married that it would be hard since mark was a Doctor she knew but still did nothing to support Mark in any way whatsoever That’s why I loved it when they matched mark up with Elizabeth because she understood and was very supportive Yes they did have a sour patch when Rachel came to spend time with them and turned a little rebellious and brought in drugs and that baby Ella almost died. But she never left mark she spoke her mind and was angry but she never left him she needed space but then understood and went back and helped mark and made Rachel understand her actions and helped her even after the death of mark.

Spoiler alert, the tumor comes back. If Mark had another operation, he would have been in a vegetative state because of it.

If I remember correctly when it came back it invaded the brainstem, which means any attempt to cut there will turn the patient into a vegetable.

It was said that it was inoperable the first time but Mark and Elizabeth went to a specialist in NYC for a second opinion. Upon closer examination, the specialist(who's operating on Mark in this video) said that it was NEAR a vital part of the brain but not AT it so it was operable but it would have to be done very carefully. It was successfully removed. But over a year later, his tumor was back. Mark went back to the specialist in NYC. The specialist discovered that Mark's tumor was back, growing around the cavity from where it was before. The specialist regretfully told Mark that this time, he couldn't operate to remove it because of where it was this time which was a vital part of the brain. If he were going to go into Mark's brain to try and remove it would cause permanent damage leaving him in a vegetated state or if it not it would kill him. Mark realized that whether they operate or not, the end result is still the same. The specialist reminded Mark that he should've been dead over a year ago but he didn't die, he got married and saw his new baby daughter Ella be born. The specialist told Mark that was time well spent. Mark agreed.
