It's easy for her to say that now, after the Hell she put him tthrough. She feels guilt and she's trying to couch it in nostalgic sentimentalism. She knows what she did to Mark was wrong. She made it impossible for him to win any of their arguments. Her career and her life were more important than their life and family together. Mark was doing the best he could, and his obligations as a doctor extended beyond just his family. It's a cruel trait that basically ruined a lot of families in the 80s and 90s, and we're seeing all the crazy fallout from it now. But Mark, being the good man he is, let her off the hook. And then she goes to repeat the same mistake, he's trying to talk to her about something important, and basically telling her he isn't going to live long enough, and she doesn't want to hear it. Same mistake, literally five seconds after trying to build that bridge back. Cruel.

I think it depends on what you grew up with. If you grew up with ER, then Grey's Anatomy will never live up to it, but if you grew up with Grey's Anatomy, then it's the opposite. At least, that's how it worked with me. I loved ER. But I will say that ER should not have lasted 15 seasons. I know in real life, people come and go, but I missed the cast from the earlier seasons. I also felt that the later seasons had way too much of certain characters' personal lives. It's not like personal lives weren't a focus before, but the show felt more balanced in the earlier seasons.

I was wrapped up in ER from the pilot episode. My favorite characters/actors were, of course, the originals. As in real life, people came and went from County General. I liked them all. But there never was another Mark Greene. I would say after Anthony Edwards left John Carter/Noah Wylie was the heart of the ER. “You set the tone, Carter.” But, Dr. Greene’s name would come up, or some issue with a patient would make me think of him. Carter keeping his stethoscope, Rachel coming to County for medical school and training were two perfect touches that made sure we’d never forget him.

I remember my mom recounting when her sister succumbed to her cancer. My grandfather was at work and he rushed home when he found out. At this point, the paramedics were just arriving and the cops were in the house. My grandfather came rushing in and one of the cops stops him from entering, he was demanding to be let in so he can go to his daughter. The officer was not budging and threatened to handcuff him. They had the cuffs ready. Her partner (who was a family friend) saw what was going on and put a stop to it right away. Once the officer let my grandfather go, no words of anger or annoyance were spoke, he just ran up the stairs to my aunts room. My mother told me that she never heard my grandfather make the cries he did before or after that. I dread the day when I have to bury my parents, but I can’t imagine a day or the feelings on what it would feel like to have to bury your child, even if they are an adult. The sad thing about my aunt was that my mother asked her to be her maid of honor at her wedding, and my aunt knew she wouldn’t make it and told my mom to pick her other sister. But ask my mom if she could name her first daughter, Kathryn, because if my aunt would’ve had kids; that was the name she loved the most. So my mom named my sister, Kathryn Mary. I never got to meet my Aunt Mary Ann, but from what I was told and heard from stories, she was the a compassionate and caring person, that had absolutely no malice in her heart.

I always felt they should've included a shot of Jen after the car pulled away really upset, in tears etc. They went heavy with the denial route to end this scene but leaving out that last shot made her look a little cold imo and she wasn't. I mean, Jen was a character i never liked in those early seasons and she was actually very cold and hard hearted to Mark as the marriage fell apart. But all of that, i always felt, was a very realistic depiction of a marriage failing which a lot of people have gone through. Most times neither party are horrible people and that is the case with Mark & Jen. As he said they just made choices. It was never showed how hard the marriage breakup would've been for Jen when in reality it would've been. They never explicitly showed that she was so upset in the diner she could only go into denial mode and get out of there. A final shot in the car as it was driving away would've done that and i think her character actually deserved it. It would've been both fitting and realistic.

_"I always felt they should've included a shot of Jen after the car pulled away really upset, in tears etc. They went heavy with the denial route to end this scene but leaving out that last shot made her look a little cold IMO and she wasn't."_ It may or may not have been the episode director's intention, but THIS is where its best left to our (the audience's) imagination. Perhaps Jen was sobbing as the car pulled away. For many years it made me wonder had Mark still remained single to the end and Jen (IIRC she had a post-divorce relationship that collapsed) would been together for Mark's final days/weeks of his life in Hawaii. Rachel was going to be there with her father regardless so it would have made sense if Jen would also be there. If you remember the scene of Corday arriving to Mark's bed to discover he had passed away and kissed his hand - just replace Corday with Jen there. That would have shown (at least to me) that she did indeed love Mark despite their estrangement.
@lauraschoenborn35446 ай бұрын

No because she got luck clerking for a judge(whom more than likely picked her more for her looks than her brains and talents, I mean how else can you explain making a lady work miles away from her family, when there are judges and law offices near her city?) And then get mad and cheat on your husband because he didn't want to start over and give up everything he worked for years and provided for you and your daughter. TG she didn’t hook up with Doug Ross

Ehh. She definitely did Mark dirty with the affair but Mark wasn't perfect in their marriage either. At the end of the day both of them put their careers ahead of each other and drifted apart. Mark definitely wanted to save their marriage but he was overly reliant on Jen to put aside her career aspirations to make it work since his career offered much less work/life balance. Honestly Jen just appeared worse because we all loved Mark because of how professional and dedicated he was as a Doctor and mentor to his peers. He was the conscience of the show. Had Jen been with a wildcard like Doug Ross, I don't think the perception of her would have been as negative.

No. It was Christine Harnos. I know because I was her stund double in another television series---High Sierra Search & Rescue. It Also aired on NBC, but was on at 8:00 pm. 👍😊

Jen is the only character that I never liked in this show.

Damn. I didn't like Corday and now I didn't like Jen either. They both seemed like cold people. Did Mark have bad taste in women?
@therealmistahjay4 жыл бұрын
Let’s not put it all on the ladies. Mark wasn’t perfect himself.. His relationship with Jen went south the moment he accepted the Attending position without discussing it with her and he had mentioned it passive aggressively (w/ regret) throughout the seasons that he chose the job over his family.

She wasn’t a good wife for Mark. Yes Marks work was important to him but she couldn’t sacrifice and remain married to him while letting him do what he loved.
@carrietremble4497 Жыл бұрын
And why was his career as a doctor so much more important than her career as a lawyer? Exactly what sacrifices was he willing to make for her? Why couldn't HE let HER do what she loved? Why do you think it should have always just been about him? Sexist much?
@darrylsowerby7973 Жыл бұрын
@@carrietremble4497 I’ll repeat what I said. “ She wasn’t a good wife for Mark”. She was selfish and wouldn’t make sacrifices for her husband and ended up cheating on him. Nowhere in my comment did I say his career was more important than hers. You made that sexist assumption not me. This is a fictional story and in it her character Jen was horrible and she didn’t support Marks career. This was a plot in a tv series you idiot. You tried to turn it into a “ got you “ narrative. Calm down.

I lost not only my best friend, my older brother and was left by my 1st wife (when I had a stroke) in less than one year and I can say that I am lucky that I was in my 30s when this happened. It tore a hole in me that is just now starting to heal thanks to my second wife.
