One of my favorite singers, songwriters, and guitarist that has ever lived, in my humble opinion. I have loved Dire Straits since I was 10 years old and I am now sitting here during the Pandemic for the last month and I need some inspiration to learn how to read notes so I can play my classical guitar. I just watched 3 hours of KZbin videos of Dire Straits, Mark Knopfler, Mark and Chet Atkins, Mark's documentary's, concerts, etc and I have never been more inspired. I LOVED the piece they did on his song, Sailing to Philadelphia and sent my Mom and Dad (who still lives in North East Pennsylvania and my grandfathers were both coal miners) the link to watch it as well. I NEED TO SEE HIM IN CONCERT!!! I absolutely LOVE everything about his guitar style and songwriting. I will go ahead and admit it...he is my man crush! LOL!
@greatbriton84254 жыл бұрын
I agree. For me, the most brilliantly artistic musician I have ever heard... and his spirit is so gentle and loving and nostalgic, it feels like he is singing about heaven, what it was like before the Fall.
@hazelisaacs22013 жыл бұрын
If you are keen to learn to read notes for classical guitar, try the ABRSM Join the Dots (specifically for guitar) & Samantha Coates Blitz music theory (general music theory) booklets. Start with grade 1 and work up to 5. They look a bit childish with the cartoon reminders & pictures but they do present information in bite-size bits that are easy to understand & apply to your own playing if you’ve had no formal music training before. Learning to read opens up a whole new world of magic whatever age you begin. Best wishes🌻

I've listened to it so many times that I've gotten sick and tired of it a very long time ago indeed. And when I force myself to listen to it just one more time, I'm STILL not tired of it, and probably never will be. Regardless of personal taste, there are few expressive artists of any type or genre in the world that are of the caliber of Mark Knopfler. I have massive PTSD (and dozens of other disorders) from being severely physically tortured and this damn tune still moves me. Fuck all else does because I'm the walking dead, but I *adore* this song.

I didn't know he knew Dire Straits and I myself didn't know this song. our conversations stopped, and then started again. he told me about his girlfriend and a family story that I didn't know, how he knew this song from his father's experiences and it made me laugh how after years there are things you don't know about the people around you. it was just me and him, before meeting up with the rest of the company, as is rarely the case, a few moments in which I can see my friend for the person he is. I'm happy to have a dire straits song that will remind me of a lifelong friendship

THE balance of a lighter side of rock merged to a very folk driven approach, this is heaven on earth.

Did a rendition of this beautiful song "why worry" and it got me into music school. Thank you Mark Knopfler for your gift. Much appreciated.

This is great music, I am a classical music junk, only love Bach Beethoven Rameau Mozart Schubert Rachmaninoff Brahms etc and I only loved it since I was a little boy, now I am 57 years old. Now I discovered this type of music and I love it also like a modern Bach, I shall listen more from this singer. Greetings from the Netherlands

Mark, you have for so long brought me your interpretation and songs and your voice. My husband just died on Christmas Eve but hearing you makes me happy again ... I remember coming to Ronnie Scott's and after asking Ed Bicknell you played the Local Hero theme. Best night of my life xxxxx

💖 🎤 🎸 I really like, and can appreciate, Mark MORE as a ‘soloist’ vs when he was a member of a ‘group’! He appears and sounds more laid back, slower, softer, relaxing, and overall ‘simpler’ to me He’s not drowned out by others and can be heard much more - both vocally and while playing the guitar. I’m going on 70, and have listened to him perform in the past, but prefer his music when it’s done this way! It was only in 2015 that I 1st heard him perform in this manner, with the song ‘Are We in Trouble Now’ - I was sent a CD of it by an overseas boyfriend (who has since passed away) bc he thought all the lyrics ‘said’ everything he felt about us and our relationship. That song will always be special to me for many reasons - and brings back many, both happy and sad memories * Sorry, I meant to write this as my own comment, but it somehow was put under yours by mistake! Hopefully it will be seen by others too.

Baby, I see this world has made you sad Some people can be bad The things they do, the things they say But baby, I'll wipe away those bitter tears I'll chase away those restless fears That turn your blue skies into gray Why worry There should be laughter after pain There should be sunshine after rain These things have always been the same So why worry now Why worry now Baby, when I get down I turn to you And you make sense of what I do And though it isn't hard to say But baby, just when this world seems mean and cold Our love comes shining red and gold And all the rest is by the way Why worry There should be laughter after pain There should be sunshine after rain These things have always been the same So why worry now Why worry now
