As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, well done!

Never assume the brass plates taken by Lehi's family aligned primarily with old testament writings. There are many apocryphal texts that may have been contained in the brass plates. The books of the old testament weren't selected for compilation into the Bible until nearly a thousand years later.

That's an interesting idea, but the book-by-book trend of the phrase's frequency in the book of mormon isn't all that significant (though I suppose you could take that as a signal that the authors were separated from the language evolution in the middle east), so I wouldn't give too much weight to this theory. Each of the BoM books (besides 2 Ne & Moroni) use "and it came to pass" more frequently than Genesis. And 4th Nephi uses the phrase about as much as the book of Ether (though give 4th Nephi large error bars, as it's a short book).

And speaking of the Tower of Babel, I believe calling it that is a more modern construct than would have been used in ancient times. Notice the BkoM calls it only “the tower,” not “the Tower of Babel,” which is perhaps further evidence of its authenticity. If Joseph had made it up, my guess is he’d’ve called it the Tower of Babel.

@@carlbaumeister3439 Great point! Joseph was pretty impeccable in learning straight from the heavens because it cuts through the idioms of our day or from many centuries of biblical expressions or “norms” of Catholicism or Protestantism.

Map the timeline of the Book of Mormon happenings with that same line. We should see that phrasal parallel around 600BC, mapping to Nephi's usage, for example. So take that same timeline and plop in the main-events (exclude Book of Ether) of the BoM. Maybe put it above the timeline with an arrow pointing down. Should nestle between the Genesis and the New Testament, is my guess.

Well, i think Sam Clemen's book about Adam and Eve is pretty boring, too. So, for me he's just being silly.
@ComeFollowMeLatterDayMedia17 күн бұрын
@@Mark-rm2yu Yes, that was the point. And what did you think of what was taught about “It came to pass?”
@Mark-rm2yu13 күн бұрын
@@ComeFollowMeLatterDayMedia It's a very interesting trend, how it's said more in the past and less as we get closer to the present. I'd like to know more about its prophetic connotation from the Hebrew words, like you mention in 3:15, before I believe that part. I should get on the interwebs and research that. My first thought was that it had something to do with the original language of our scriptures or the person who translates them, but that's not true, which you prove here. It's a great point to make when talking about the verifiability of the Pearl of Great Price and the Book of Mormon as legitimate scripture. It's not something to hang my testimony on, but definitely confirmation of it. There's bound to be more details than can be expressed in a short youtube video, though. Thanks for the work you've done here.

I thought the same as Twain when I read the Book of Mormon several years ago. Your statistics don't complement each other accurately. You go from numbers in the Book of Mormon then to percentages in chapters in the Bible. Your hypothesis is weak. Keep trying. Hmm.

Are you saying jS didn't have a Bible to use? Lol. It should not surprise you that JS was just copying the Bible and timeline.

@jake888217 күн бұрын
@UncleFetz not so smart person you. The argument would be something if JS didn't have the bible to use as his template and filler for the book of mormon. This video is a nothing burger and shows how silly people react to things that are obviously taken from other sources. There is no book of mormon plates. There never was and never will be. An angel doesn't come and take ancient writings. Never has and never will. The only reason for an angel to take the plates is because there was nothing to scrutinize and inspect. Take the book of Abraham for an example. JS failed miserably at translating the papyri and it now shows as the actual artifact was preserved to put an end to the supposed prophet. He, JS, was a con man. The worst part is so many just follow and hope and try to make it all work. The gospel of Jesus christ is in the bible. While the book of mormon might have some good things, it doesn't make it true. The saddest part of the church is how it evolved into being a business. To profess that paying money to go and make special covenants with God is blasphemy.

Jesus quoted Isaiah and other prophets that aren't in any bibles anymore. Did he "copy" them?
@jake888217 күн бұрын
@FromG2eminor we are talking about Jesus. That's not even close. Did Jesus try to con people with treasure digging?
@FromG2eminor17 күн бұрын
@jake8882 Joseph didn't con anyone with money. He lived and died poor. He didn't pursue treasure hunting during his ministering either. He gave that up learning he had a greater work to do.
