I was raised on the KJV, but in the 80s I was in a Christian bookstore, and was handed a blue softcover Bible and told to try it. I think it cost $5. It was the NIV, and suddenly the Bible came alive. It's still my favorite translation...simply because it's the one I read.

Bible journey… told KJV, bought KJV..got frustrated. Bought NLT, loved it read through the whole Bible, which peaked my interests in the original languages and their words and true definitions. Wanted more. Researched closest translations. Bought NASB with Greek and Hebrew concordance’s. Blew my mind and loved it as well. Bought ESV study Bible, loved it and its commentary. Which in turn made me pick up KJV again, this time I wound up loving KJV..But still wanted more and researched bibles and read the history of KJV and reformers. Which led me to Geneva..The Bible should stir your interest in Gods word, our history from prophets to apostles to early church fathers to reformers. We should hunger for the true word and its profoundness. All these bibles are blessings, but my favorite has become Geneva with modern spelling and commentary. Stay hungry and God bless!

I hate to tell you this, but there is no such thing as a "word-for-word" translation. Languages simply do not work that way. "Word for word" is the concept that translators use as a guide as they do the translations, but an actual word for word translation is impossible. Many words in the original languages simply do not exist in English.

Here's how to know if you have a good translation: go to Ephesians 3:9. If the verse ends with "Jesus Christ" then your translation is good. If it doesn't, then you need to toss that bible into the trash and pick up a bible that has the correct verse with nothing removed. And then ask yourself why modern bible translators would remove the name of Jesus Christ from that verse (like the ESV, NIV and many other trash translations do)

This is not to mention that the KJV is FULL of words that meant something much different when it was written than now. Take for instance "study". Study then meant "do your best", not buckle down into books and lectures. Tons of words in KJV like that. It was a top-notch Bible of its time, but today....not so much. The language has changed too much. If you do use it, don't assume you know what a word meant then. Use the Oxford English Dictionary for etymology and definitions of the time.

I pastor a Chinese congregation. Obviously translation is an important necessity. I think that even in English communication there is a need for clarification. As an example, Translation and interpretation are not the same thing! Translation is an honest effort to accurately convey the words of one language to another. Interpreting is an attempt to communicate one’s understanding of a given statement or sentence. I grew up on the KJV so am familiar with its style, word use and context. After reading the New Testament word for word in Greek I became aware that the KJV itself is a Victorian paraphrase; accurate in its conveyance of the original texts (except for a few Anglican Church leanings) but strictly True in its character. Today, I preach from the KJV, but in reading, paraphrase to provide a flowing narrative where needed, or a clear understanding of its teachings as the case may be. It would be futility to expect an audience struggling with English as a second language to additionally wrestle with Victorian “Thees and thous” I think the same sentiment is needed and helpful in any diverse setting that we encounter, even ‘street’ lingo. I hope this is useful! Blessings! 📖

@@davidmason9925 The thing about the KJV is that it is based on outdated scholarship. Those were mostly late manuscripts that were the result of centuries of changes. Most modern Bibles now follow the Nestle-Aland text, which represents the best of modern scholarship in the field of textual criticism. It is the attempt of scholars to get a more accurate reading of what the original writers intended in their writings. If you compare between the KJV and a more modern Bible, you'll see that the KJV has entire verses added into it, such as I John 5:7, which was added into the Bible around the 16th century.

My son is a translator of languages and so this is the truth about why so many versions are different. The translation is done by guess work of construction of the language by the author. Many times when we see something you can get different versions of what was seen at the same place and time by different people. So using a multitude of different versions and concordances will change the perception of what you are reading. Context is very important when reading as well so don’t limit your knowledge by staying on one version use all the tools in your toolbox. There are Bible apps that are very useful and they have many versions available for us to use. Gods word is alive and it will bring life and light to those who seek His Kingdom above all else. Matthew 6:33.

One of the versions of Bibles I'm trying out is the "Bible in Basic English" (BBE). While I've grown to understand the richness of the language used in the KJV, it's nice to get down to the basics of the Gospel message. Having a fresh, yet simple perspective has helped me obtain a greater grasp of God's message and has helped me understand and feel closer to God in the process. I still like to compare this BBE version of the Bible with the original King James Version, so I can make sure I'm receiving the same message as the one I grew up with studying. As somebody who has studied the Greek of the New Testament over a period of 20+ years, I have some important observations to make about what he's saying. First of all, it is always best to take the time to learn New Testament Greek and to take that before any translation. The Jews are encouraged to study the Old Testament in Hebrew, and the Muslims are encouraged to study the Quran in Arabic. If you are serious about the Bible and what it really says, learning New Testament Greek is very important. There will never be a perfect translation. Second, when he asked the question about why there are so many translations, what he didn't mention is that it's about money. Every publishing house wants to have their own version so they can make money off of it. And some have good scholarship behind it, while others just look like they are copying from other translations and compiling. Really, it gets that bad between translation sometimes. Third, he completely misrepresent the differences between Bible manuscripts. If you were to get into the field of textual criticism, you will see that there are different traditions, or "families", of texts that come from different regions at different times. The differences can be entire passages. This thing about spelling errors and punctuation is often repeated by teachers like him who want to just simply wave away controversy and have you believe the things that they are saying. For example, our earliest manuscripts do not have the story in John 8 of the woman caught in adultery. Some manuscripts have that story in Luke. 1 John 5 :7-8 had a verse included that talked about the Trinity, although that verse does not appear in any manuscript before the 15th century. The ending of the book of Mark came later; our earliest manuscripts have it ending at verse 8 of the last chapter. And there are a lot of other changes that can go so far to challenge established doctrines. What I would say is to look into this yourself and don't listen to a pastor who either has very little knowledge on the subject or is purposefully deceiving you.

@@damonalexander25 Yes, they were arrogant in their religion and power. But what I'm talking about are things that are proven true that you can look at and know are real. And to Look at such evidence and say, "Well, that's wrong because the spirit speaks the truth to me" is kind of silly. The sky is blue, trees are made of wood, arachnids have eight legs, and there are thousands of different Greek manuscripts of the New Testament that are all different from each other and have some changes that have creeped into them over the centuries. If some spirit is telling you otherwise, you need to question if it is really the Holy Spirit you're listening to.

I really like the J.B. Phillips New Testament paraphrase translation! You don't hear about it much, it was written in England in the 50s, but I think some sections are absolutely brilliant and that it's a worthy addition to any Bible collection. I found it through a Ravi Zacharias talk in which he read a powerful Romans passage from the paraphrase. I've since learned that C.S. Lewis was a huge supporter of the work and also Dan Wallace (he worked on the New English Translation) has spoken well of it.

I had a buddy who had several deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan and had seen so many horrible things and confided in me about how many lives he had likely taken. Terrible PTSD. The KJV Bible had him convinced he was condemned due to the KJV mistranslation of “You shall not murder” to “Thou shalt not kill”. Fortunately, I was able to help him understand the original Hebrew. He later got baptized. He’s still struggling with the PTSD though.

@@HayK47Sorry to hear about your friend, however I think your critique is misplaced. You can easily prove this is not the case without going to the Hebrew. God orders to kill multiple times. Romans soldiers got saved multiple times (who obviously had blood on their hands), Moses was a murderer and knew God “face to face.”Obviously God is commanding not to kill in a certain context. The Hebrew word can be rendered either way. It’s not a mistranslation. Let’s say a man is standing accused of murdering his neighbor Bob. If the judge said, “You stand accused of killing your neighbor Bob.” You wouldn’t clamor and tell the judge he used a wrong word.

Be careful with KJV because it has a Calvinist influence. For example it uses the unbiblical Calvinist term “Reprobate” in the second half of Romans chapter 1 leading a lot of people to believe this passage talks people who are willing to repent but are unable. This passage when taken into context by reading into chapter 2 shows us that the Romans 1 passage is talking about the sins of all mankind and anyone who hasn’t repented and been baptized yet. I have to counsel and calm down people all the time on Facebook who are trying but have been terrified by Calvinism and have been convinced they are lost. I spent 4 weeks in. Psych ward myself thinking I was lost but God showed me the truth and now I have peace and trust in Jesus. If I had a dollar for every time I see a post from a scared Christian asking a question using the term “reprobate,” I wouldn’t have to work ever again and I could spend all my time counseling. So this is one reason why I will no longer use the King James Version. Calvinism strips people of their assurance of salvation because they can no longer trust Jesus’s sacrifice for their salvation. Calvinism teaches people that Jesus only died for some. So a Calvinist can never be completely sure that Jesus died for them. So instead of looking at Jesus’s sacrifice for their justification they start obsessing over their fruits which are only evidence of justification not the cause of their salvation. They no longer have peace because they are constantly looking at their fruits to try and figure out if they are saved. Some out of fear take it even further when they start producing works to try and save themselves and once you start producing fruit for the purpose of salvation instead of gratitude of salvation, the fruits turn into filthy rags. The believer is now trying to save himself which is impossible. I see it all the time on the internet and this is how I know the doctrine of Calvinism is evil. Even if we read 1 John 2:2 in the KJV we see that, “And He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.” You can never have complete assurance of your salvation, as God and the Bible intended, unless you know that Jesus died for everyone and that you can trust his perfect life and blood. Otherwise you can only hope you will be saved. Hope is not assurance and causes some out of fear to turn to themselves for salvation. So I kindly ask that you use please use caution when preaching or teaching from the KJV in order to avoid others falling into unintended Calvinist thinking. If you are a Calvinist I would encourage you to repent of a doctrine that turns God into someone who creates evil and is an unjust god. A god that is not perfect in justice or love. Please revisit verses that Calvinism uses to defend their doctrine and reconcile them with the rest of the Bible that teaches us that God is perfect loving, just, and merciful and that God is righteous so there is no sin in Him. Therefore he cannot create anything evil. Evil must come from the free will of men not from God. Therefore God does not depraved children chosen beyond free will for evil and destruction.

1:30 into the video and I have to comment. Mark makes a great point here about the influence of the reader's personality on the method of interpretation. I think his example of lawyers and accountants emphasizing a meticulous, detailed, legal (etc) interpretation. Likewise a creative person will find "meaning" and the "sprit" of the text. Furthermore, this phenomenon carries over in into the God a person worships. A detailed, legalistic person tends to worship a detailed, legalistic God. A creative, artistic person will likely worship a creative, gracious God and will find meaning in experiences. These personality differences are the reason we have so many different denominations and "flavors" of Christianity. It's fascinating.

Yes, the ESV study Bible has a slant towards Calvanism, but it doesn't much show in the text. It does show complimentarianism. That's only in a couple of spots. I corrected mine. It is my main study version because it leans in the Word-for-Word direction, applies Critical text, has wording that reflects KJV, and is a good scholarly work. For devotional reading I like to use the CSB. It has a fantastic reading to it! But it would not be my primary study choice. I compare ESV-NKJV-NIV for my text comparisons. ESV and NIV are older critical text and NKJV is TR medieval.

@@Corinthians-kjv AMP actually has way more words than KJV, but it's commentary hidden within the text. The ESV and NLT are based on the older Critical texts, including Dead Sea scrolls (some of which date to 150's BC. The KJV is based on 6 Greek texts and Masoretic text in which none are older than 1040 AD. The TR texts INCLUDE scribal notes. Even Erasmus added his own to these old documents! Bel and the Dragon is interesting, not sure on the validity but it's basically a continuation of the book of Daniel. The book of Enoch though, extra Biblical text, is VERY interesting, Jude references it, and also Jesus, "2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you." John 14:2; which is referencing(possibly/probably): Enoch 41 "2. And there I saw the mansions of the elect and the mansions of the holy, and mine eyes saw there all the sinners being driven from thence which deny the name of the Lord of Spirits, and being dragged off: and they could not abide because of the punishment which proceeds from the Lord of Spirits." This is the only time that mansions(from what I've heard, I do want to study this more) are spoken of and I think it's worth looking into; the people in Jesus time would have had access to the book of Enoch and most people in the religious community probably heard this along with all the other books of the OT. Jesus spoke of the mansions and said if it wasn't true, I would tell you. I find that very interesting. I don't consider the book of Enoch as inspired Word, but more like a history book that everyone in the Jewish community probably knew back then. It's also worth noting that fragments of the book of Enoch were found among the Dead Sea Scrolls: The Book of Watchers (1 Enoch 1-36): This section describes the fall of the Watchers, angels who fathered the Nephilim, and their punishment. The Book of Dreams (1 Enoch 83-90): This section contains Enoch's visions of the history and future of Israel. The Astronomical Book (1 Enoch 72-82): This section includes Enoch's revelations on the movement of heavenly bodies and the calendar.

If you don't pursue holiness and righteousness and run the race as though to win the prize, your mind, itself, will twist the Word of God to your own destruction. Possessing "the Mind of Christ" in actuality and as a continual goal is your only safeguard. Any other possible mindset will send you to Hell. The Father has put such a high value upon having 'the mind of Christ' that you are better off being moneyless, homeless and unable to find a true friend and yet in possession of a good Bible and a right mind that prioritizes the Kingdom of God: real righteousness, real peace and real joy. All else is wood, hay and stubble meant for the eternal fires of Hell. Enoch walked with God and he was no longer, because God Almighty took him. The testimony that he had was: "he continually pleased God". Enoch lived before an audience of One.

Let’s pray for one another, and let the Holy Spirit do the changing for it’s by his spirit that all things will be made perfect. Believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God he came to earth to live and to die for our sins that whoever believe in him would not perish, but have everlasting life. Yeah, I was born and raised in a KJV only church system. I actually heard one pastor say from the pulpit "and people reading the NIV, (etc) and all that junk!" Years later I realized how that only works if you grow up or have only been exposed to that sort of teaching. Suppose someone who was never exposed to that teaching, say, came to know the Lord reading a NASB or something else, how did that happen, if all other versions other than a KJV are junk? Serious bible readers need to do their research because yes, some translations are more problematic than others. But when we suggest there's only one that is decent (and almost always that's the KJV), we're doing the body of Christ a disservice.

Excellent points. The root of the problem is that human beings read and interpret based on their own personalities. By and large, we get what we are seeking from the word. Different personality types gravitate toward versions that "speak" to their individual, unique personality. This also explains the differences in Gods that Christian worship. We tend to worship a God that more or less represents our own (idealized) morals and values. We can see the evidence of this in the fact that rarely -if ever, does a believer worship a God with whom they disagree. However, it isn't uncommon for a believer to disagree with the God that another person believes in (or rather they disagree with the other person's interpretation or understanding of God. It's a fascinating phenomenon.

🪭THE GOSPEL OF THE WORD OF ALMIGHTY GOD "the Salvation of the last day that Christ brought in the second and last incarnation of His new and holy name" (Because the Lord Jesus incarnate did the work of the Age of Grace, for 2,000 years, all of Christianity referred the one true God as the "trinity." Therefore, the religious identifies, the one true God as the trinity, separate Him, throughout time. The world of religion cherishes strictly to it and refuses to change at all times. Now, the Almighty God of the last days has come to do the work of judgment, revealing all the means that save humanity. He completely dispute the greatest error of Christianity---the trinity. If God didn't expose this lie directly, we would not discover the foolishness within the idea of the trinity. Almighty God says, "if any one of you says that the trinity really exists, then explain what exactly this one God in three persons is? What is the Holy Father? What is the Son? What is the Holy One? Spirit? Is Jehovah the Holy Father? Is Jesus the Son? So what about the Holy Spirit? 'There is only One God, only One person in this God, and only One Spirit of God, as it is written in the Bible that there is only One Holy Spirit and only One God.' In simple words, God is the Spirit, but He can be flesh and live with people, as well as above all things. His Spirit is all and everywhere. He can be in the flesh and above the universe at the same time. Don't you know Jesus was born through the conception of the Holy Spirit? Inside Him is the Holy Spirit; no matter what you say, He is still God in heaven, because He is the incarnation of God Spirit. This idea of a child is simply not true.) Almighty God said Because the LORD JESUS INCARNATE did the WORK of the AGE of GRACE, for 2,000 YEARS, ALL of CHRISTIANITY REFERRED to the ONE TRUE GOD as the "Trinity." Because the BIBLE MENTIONS the FATHER, the SON, and the HOLY SPIRIT, they PROMOTE that GOD must be a TRINITY. ☀️ There was some debate, but most people stuck to the idea of the Trinity without any change. Some people say "Trinity," and others say "Three in One," which are essentially the same, and mean the same thing. Whether we say "Trinity" or "Three in One," it says that God is made up of three parts, They are not the one God. Only when they are together can they become one true God. It's just a ridiculous thing to say. Can you really say that Jehovah God is not the only true God? Or is the Lord Jesus not the only true God? Is NOT the HOLY SPIRIT the ONE TRUE GOD? 🙏 Is NOT this CONCEPT of the TRINITY a REJECTION and DESTRUCTION of the ONE TRUE GOD? Isn't the one true God being carved up and blasphemed? We can see how crazy this idea of the Trinity is. THEREFORE, the RELIGIOUS WORLD IDENTIFIES the ONE TRUE GOD as the TRINITY, SEPARATE Him THROUGHOUT TIME. It is very painful for God. 😢 The WORLD of RELIGION CHERISHES STRICTLY to it and REFUSES to change at ALL TIMES. NOW, the ALMIGHTY GOD of the LAST DAYS has COME to DO the WORK of JUDGMENT, REVEALING ALL the MEANS that SAVE HUMANITY. He COMPLETELY DISPUTE the GREATEST ERROR of CHRISTIANITY---the TRINITY. 🙏 It OPENED our EYES and we PRAISED CHRIST from our HEARTS as the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE, and PRAISED. WISDOM and MIGHTY in ALL GOD. 🙏 If GOD DIDN'T EXPOSE this LIE DIRECTLY, we WOULD NOT DISCOVER the FOOLISHNESS WITHIN the IDEA of the TRINITY. ☀️ Let's take a closer look at this by reading some of God's words. ALMIGHTY GOD says, "If ANY ONE of YOU SAYS that the TRINITY REALLY EXISTS, then EXPLAIN what EXACTLY this ONE GOD in THREE PERSONS is.. WHAT is the HOLY FATHER? What is the Son? What is the Holy One?" Spirit? ☀️ Is JEHOVAH the HOLY FATHER? Is JESUS the SON? So WHAT ABOUT the HOLY SPIRIT? Isn't the WORK of JESUS the WORK of the HOLY SPIRIT? ISN'T JEHOVAH'S WORK DONE by a SPIRIT SIMILAR to JESUS's? How many Spirits can God have? According to your explanation, the three persons of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are one; So, then, there are three Spirits, but the existence of three Spirits means that there are three Gods. That is, there is no one true God; how can this kind of God still have the natural essence of God? ☀️ If you accept that there is only one God, then how can He have a son and be a father? Aren't these all just your notions? I have been using the Berean Bible translation lately. I have read several translations and often go to the interlinears to see what I may have missed as far as context. The best translation is the one you will read, but don't rely on any single translation by itself. Parallel bibles are also a good choice because you can see them side by side.

Great insight. I also got saved reading the NIV (1984), and still read it daily, but don't care much for the 2011 revision. I like the NKJV. The NASB seems wordy and sometimes convoluted, perhaps because it is a transliteration. I will occasionally refer to it, though, as well as the Amplified. Be careful of any Bible that favors the “Alexandrian text” manuscripts. This manuscript is “the oldest” but matches less than 5% of all manuscripts(it matches the Latin vulgate of the Catholic Church, and they are the reason this manuscript gets a lot of support) The “received text” makes up 95% of all New Testament manuscripts. Bibles based on the Alexandrian text are missing 30,000 words!! Let me show you just how important this is to salvation….. when reading the verses regarding the mark of the beast, you will notice God tells you HOW TO AVOID THE MARK in the received text bibles(like the kjv and NKJV). These verses on how to avoid the mark are MISSING in the NIV!!!!! It is no wonder pastors today who favor the NIV don’t know what the mark is….

'THERE is ONLY ONE GOD, ONLY ONE PERSON in this GOD, and ONLY ONE SPIRIT of GOD, as it is WRITTEN in the BIBLE that there is ONLY ONE HOLY SPIRIT and ONLY ONE GOD.' 🙏 Regardless of when the Father and the Son you say existed, there is only one God after all, and the spirit of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit that you believe in is the spirit of the Holy Spirit. Yes, the original KJV has been edited thousands of time. Even in its original version it mentions in its introduction that it was not intended to be a perfect or authoritative translation. I grew up on the KJV and it’s a good translation that the Lord has used but it’s not a perfect translation. In many ways the language used is antiquated or out dated. There are more accurate and more readable translations today. One in particular is the NASB which I find generally to follow the original Greek most consistently. Hope this helps some. God bless

The late Theodore Letis (1951-2005) said, "“The English should conform to every detail of the inspired Hebrew and Greek. When the Authorized version uses Thee’s and Thou’s…. it’s for a purpose, for a reason, not to be quaint, and that reason is that technically it’s only the Elizabethan form of English that can communicate the details of the inspired Greek and Hebrew with regard to the second person singular and plural forms. It’s what experts refer to as Biblical English, not conversational English, it’s an English that can conform to every detail of the inspired Hebrew and Greek in its form, and we get that in the Authorized Version and it’s just as though you are reading the Greek because the Greek has a different form for plural and singular.” The King James Bible has over 775,000 words and only 0.23% of those words are considered archaic.

There is no such thing as Biblical English. There are words in the Greek & Hebrew manuscripts that cannot retranslated into any for of English 'word-for-word'. The KJV, while a valuable tool does not translate the original languages any more accurately than some of the newer translations. If you will actually study this issue you will find even the King James translators addressed this in the original Preamble when they said "Therfore as S. Augustine saith, that varietie of Translations is profitable for the finding out of the sense of the Scriptures: so diversitie of signification and sense in the margine, where the text is not so cleare, must needes doe good, yea is necessary, as we are perswaded." They revised their own work numerous times and realized that new discoveries might result in more accurate translations in the future. It is clear from their own words they did not hold their work to be the 'be all/end all' when it came to translating the Bible into English.

The KJV, while a valuable tool does not translate the original languages any more accurately than some of the newer translations.’ I would encourage you to listen to Theodore Letis’ interview on this as he addresses your statement in detail which can be viewed on my page under ‘Theodore P. Letis: Is the King James Bible too hard to read?” Furthermore, Adam Nicolson, the well-known English author stated, “And so the English of the King James Bible is certainly not the English that was spoken or written in the first decade of the 17th century, it is actually not a form of English that was ever spoken anywhere or written, but it is actually an English pulled towards the condition of the Greek and the Hebrew. It is more like a kind of middle-ground if you think of a translation as having a source and a target, the source in Hebrew and Greek, the target in English. The King James Bible is in the middle here in that the English is pulled over to the source of the Hebrew and the Greek. Thus the forms of the sentences of the grammar, the incredible repetitiveness for example of the Hebrew of the Old Testament, is English as Hebrew, and the sort of language that God speaks in, a deliberately strange and unique language that takes us to a place where people would not naturally feel that was the sort of language which you or I might use to each other.” ‘If you will actually study this issue….’ I actually have studied this issue for over 40 years now and wrote a 455-page book on it and have debated it online. You can find the title at kjvdebate on the web. ‘the King James translators addressed this in the original Preamble when they said "Therfore as S. Augustine saith, that varietie of Translations is profitable for the finding out of the sense of the Scriptures: so diversitie of signification and sense in the margine, where the text is not so cleare, must needes doe good, yea is necessary, as we are perswaded."’ I agree and that was proper for that time of which a final settled text was being determined during the reformation. That providential time of determining a settled text has come and gone. The next reformation, or ‘restoration’ of all things (Acts 3:19-21: KJV) will occur with an already settled text and a final authority in place. The KJV translators also said, ““But it is high time…… that we should need to make a new Translation, nor yet to make of a bad one a good one…. but to make a good one better, or out of many good ones, one principal good one.” The KJV translators were clearly saying that even the prior English versions were ‘good’ versions, and out of these ‘many good ones,’ they were to translate “ONE PRINCIPLE GOOD ONE!” ‘They revised their own work numerous times and realized that new discoveries might result in more accurate translations in the future.’ I believe that time has come and gone not to mention that most modern scholars are off 2000 miles geographically searching for Egyptian manuscripts rather than in reformation locales as Beza did. ‘It is clear from their own words they did not hold their work to be the 'be all/end all' when it came to translating the Bible into English.’ I think the KJV translators applying Isaiah 8:20 right after John 5:39 on page 2 of their intro when they said ““what [or which] word of God (whereof we may be sure) without the scripture” tells us they came to their ‘one principal good one’ they were searching for. Blessings and thanks for the civil dialogue.

Seems to me that consevative Christian values that where held until 150 years ago, are out the door. Now everyone interprets the bible as they wish. And I do not see the world getting anywhere. Now people in the church act like people who were not raised christian, like me in my twenties. Why is the bible not changing lives if everyone can read it? Because our outward expressions are a reflection of our inner self. I belive the bible uses the illustration of fruits.

The best Bible is the American Standard Version. It is the most literal with the least added words. However, the ASV is not always an easy read.

My primary Bible that I am using right now is the ESV. I also have copies of the CSB, NKJV, KJV and NIV84 all hard copies. I also have LOGOS on my computer with multiple translations and YOUVERSION on my phone that has multiple versions.

America started creating new translations.... After WW2, new translations were pushed. Then in the same era we started losing all our major conflicts... The Word should not be tampered with, or altered by man's wisdom.... But, left to the Holy Spirit to use as He wishes.

@@savannahjo5578 it would be amazing. I like to use the logos Bible app because it can translate entire portions and you can do word studies that help bring the translation as close tot he original Greek as possible. I like doing that / I find it doesn’t make a huge difference but sometimes adds a new dimension to the words. I like the ESV. I did a bit of research and found that one is supposed to be a nice blend of keeping the poetic aspect while also striving to be literal. But it’s up to you! I think I’ve also read from the NIV and that one seems good. People will say oh it’s modern it’s been corrupted but another way of looking at it is that we have discovered so many more scrolls and manuscripts since the King James Version - so that’s something to take into account. That and I want to understand what I’m reading, king James, because of the style of English, is interesting but not the best for me as far as study and learning

What about the Septuagint, the Vulgate, the Wycliffe Bible, the Tyndale Bible, the Luther Bible, the Geneva Bible, the American Standard Version, to name a few that were produced before WW2? What about the non-English speaking world?

My favorite version is "The Scriptures". It's an literal translation, but sometimes it's a bit hard to just grab and read, because the names and places are spelt by the actual pronunciation. And the Greek words like lord and god are replaced by the actual Hebrew names, left in the Hebrew language.

All you have to do is do your own Bible comparisons. Grab a KJV. NIV, and NASB. Compare them. See how many times Jesus name is omitted, and many other omissions. Start with Isaiah 14:12. That’s the verse where Satan fell. Many of the new translations omitted Satans name and put in the “ morning star”. I could list many other scriptures for you but if you don’t compare for yourself then you’ll never see for yourself.

If you want the correct translation and meaning of scripture, then go to the Catholic Church. They brought you the Bible and have kept the interpretation as pure as possible for 1800 years or so.
