Story 1: The brother isn't a coward, he AGREES with his wife. He is equally as hateful as she is, that's why he's marrying her
@Callimo Жыл бұрын
Well, OP's brother is a coward in another way: he would rather marry a toxic person than actually leave them and truly stand up for his brother. The thing is, bigots don't stop mean chodes to the groups they're bigoted against, they barf that poisionous attitude all over their tribal circle, and it eats at them inside since they themselves are usually self hating. I really doubt a marriage between 2 bigots will be happy and healthy.

OP could call his brother and let him know he'll be coming, then attend the wedding without a girl by his side. If he's asked about what happened to his date, Carol. He can answer that Carol's GIRL friend, Jill, got sick. Since Carol didn't want to leave Jill alone, she stayed home with her. After all that, he could stay for the ceremony, but not attend the reception. His reason for leaving early could be that his partner just called and he's come down with the same "bug" that Jill seems to have. hmmmm hehehehehehee

Let the brother know that it isn’t going to be “one day.” It’ll extend your holidays, birthdays, outings, and visits to, heaven forbid, future children. No matter what hope OP’s brother has, he is very likely not going to change his fiancée’s mind on liking OP (or tolerating OP in this case). Marriage isn’t going to fix that either. He’s going to have to decide if chemistry without compatibility really is more important than familial relationships. The problem these days with going to counselors or therapists is that many of them have their own personal opinion of morality and right & wrong and they have no problems with infusing these beliefs into their professional lives. They would rather convert a couple to their beliefs and THEN try to help them progress in their relationship. My friend and his wife had a decent but not awesome marriage. They went through 8 different counselors before they found one that didn't try to make them change their beliefs or try some "alternative lifestyles" to help their marriage. 5 of the counselors actually told them they might be happier exploring Polygamy or an Open Marriage. Then proceeded to try and sell them on those alternative lifestyles. Their marriage had some issues but sex was NOT one of them LOL. But before those counselors wanted to address their issues, they wanted them to investigate and even try out alternative lifestyles. 1 of them they had to actually get a restraining order against her because she would not stop contacting them and harping on them about trying new things. She even suggested they experiment with changing genders in the bedroom and then expand that to their date nights out. LOLOLOL

I think the comment had to do with using difference of opinion as justification to treat people so horribly. I'm glad you mentioned it literally everyone else is only talking about the first story. Yeah that last update comes off as pretty defensive for no reason. I don't know if this is something he will ever fully get over tho. He was told he wasn't able to have children and had to come to terms with that which must have been incredibly difficult because he really did want children. Then just when he seemed to accept it then he thought a miracle had happened. And to be so excited only to find out six months into the pregnancy it wasn't even yours to begin with. It's extremely traumatic. Paternity fraud is literally one of the worst things that could ever happen to you. Luckily he caught it before he got too attached, before the baby was born but I'm sure it hurts him that he will probably never be able to have a child of his own. I think he was completely justified in waiting to dump her for when it would hurt her the most right after she gave birth. I think she totally deserved it. She was planning to do one of the worst things you could ever do to someone. And everyone who is claiming his actions weren't justified is a cheater themselves. She deserve way worse than he gave her. She deserved to spend what should have been the happiest time of her life afraid and alone. She deserved way worse than that. I'm honestly worried for OPs step? kid tho. First off it's strange OPs gf introduced her young daughter to some guy she's only known for 8 months who has a serious drinking problem! I stopped drinking and started putting my life back together. A month later, I met an amazing man, and we moved in together 2 months after dating. Everyone was warning him that he was just my rebound, and we both were told we were moving too fast, and our relationship would never work. If a guy told me this, I would honestly wonder if he was lying about being the father. You can’t want to be an involved dad and also okay with not being involved. The first moments of life are incredibly important for babies to form an attachment to their parents. Moms are flush with bonding hormones and babies are placed skin to skin. So at important, pivotal moment in attachment, this dude stressed a woman out. HE PREVENTED A BABY FROM IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENT. Exactly who was this revenge against?!? And again? What loving father would allow someone to fuck with their child like that? If your revenge is designed to harm a mom at the most vulnerable moment of her life, it is designed to deeply harm a child who did nothing to you. If this guy is real, I hope his sisters and mothers tell any future partners about this. No woman should ever be this vulnerable with him again. Always get the DNA test. US Courts don't give a crap is someone just says they aren't the biological father. They will slap whomever on the certificate to lessen the risk of the child being on social services. To the courts paternity isn't a biological issue. It's a legal one. But, you can dispute the claim if you have evidence. Again: always get the DNA test. Even if you KNOW the baby isn't yours. The courts will not care and will ignore it if you don't have documentation. Sometimes they'll order one, but there's often a time limit to get a father off the birth certificate.

Even if its MOST LIKELY the other guy, even if its 90/10 or even 95/5 against you when its something THIS IMPORTANT YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE. You can STILL shun HER for cheating on you but you should NOT shun the baby at least until you have the DNA test.

So, here's the thing - story no1 - the fact that the wife to be plus brother suggested bringing a woman along instead of his husband is one of those 'things that make me go humm'. I can see really religious people asking him not to bring his same sex spouse, but lie and bring a girl??!! Story no2, whilst I understand the whole situation with the ex and baby, getting hooked up with a single mother! WTF, lost a whole lot of sympathy from me. Story 2 (before update): Ummm, giant problem here.. You do not "know" that the child isn't yours, you have reason to suspect the child might not be yours. ESH. You should have gotten a DNA test the second you found out she was cheating, then made your decision from there. You are not an AH for wanting to leave her, just for assuming paternity with not test. Story 2 (update: Good you got the DNA test, Congrats ? on not being the father. Kindof a double edge sword, good to not be saddled with cheating ex in your life, but sad that you lost what you thought was going to be your first child.

Sorry, story 1 they expect a married man to attend a wedding, about celebrating the bonds between two people who love each other, without his husband? Rather hypocritical to ask someone who’s married to pretend not to be married and not bring their spouse to your wedding. I’m no contact with my mother and brother for many reasons (child abuse survivor) and an constant “issue” was my sexuality, apparently me being not straight was a “problem”. Some of us are just unfortunate to be related to homophobes.

Story one I would be 100% done with brother and anyone who agreed with bro. He is trash. I don’t get why OP is so shocked? He has a bad relationship with bro and you know his fiancé is a mega bit@h….come on stop allowing yourself to be a second class citizen. Story 2 cheating is awful, but I gotta say ….you were gonna make her the happiest woman on earth, dude if she was happy she wouldn’t have cheated. I know that hurts, but cheaters cheat for reason, awful reasons but reasons. Oh my lord this guy is an absolute tool……I really can’t stand him.

Story 2: he honestly comes off as either a fake story or a very cruel self absorbed love bombing guy that discarded his old source of validation for a new source as soon as she gave him an excuse. 😬 What he did was pretty fucked up and his flippant tone about serious negative traits is concerning. Hopefully therapy helps him
@bubblegumpeach5662 Жыл бұрын
What the cheating girl did was horrid, but the guy is a bit sus. He said I did nothing but treat her right, and then I wasn't always the best guy? Well, paternity tests should be mandatory, imagine raising someone for years that is not your child. What the hell.

Second story is nuts. OP I honestly think he’s codependent. It’s a lot to just instant family. I hope he at least stays in contact with the kid if things go awry. He was likely codependent. Of course it’s the greatest relationship ever you’ve been together 8 months. That said therapy will help sort through it. However sometimes you just know. I was truly traumatized in a previous relationship that had way to many elements of my upbringing. I went on a date with my high school crush. I told him I wanted a distraction. By the time he was driving me home it was so obvious we started falling in love. As scared as I was there was no going back. I was terrified due to all love bombing. He was so patient. He told me knew he’d be paying for the sins of others. He said to take as much time as I needed. I wish I was braver. I had enough time to learn to love and trust again. Unfortunately I was too scared to tell him before he died unexpectedly.

@@robertx8020 I've seen enough "step parent insisted on being Mom/Dad immediately, it F'd up our relationship but everyone blames me" stories to know there's a middle ground between "if you didn't want to be a stepparent why get involved with a single parent" and " if you pulled the same coming on too strong clingy controlling S*** on an SO they'd run for the hills so why do you think is it OK to do it to a kid/s who are not able to just leave" Both extremes are bad and people are worried OP is doing the step-parent equivalent of saying I love you on the first date. Story 1. HIs brother is homophobic as well as his new wife. OP should cut them out of his life, as well as his homophobic father. He should keep close ties with his sister, and his mother. OP should broadcast to all his family members and their family and friends, exactly who he is and why he isn't attending their wedding. As well as brother's recent homophobic revelations. Story 2. OP does seem to be moving too fast with his new girlfriend, and might be setting himself up for heartache. Single mothers are usually looking for financial support, not love, so he should move slowly and carefully with her. At this point she will tell him anything to snag him if she thinks he is a great provider. OP does have many red flags too, so I hope he sticks with his therapy for now.

story 3 after the update, holy fuck does reddit comments just love to make shit up on their own. it's like if they aren't spoon fed every detail they'll take any tiny little thing and make up a story that fits. jesus christ he just said he gave her the teddy he planned to give the kid some day. that could mean when he heard she was pregnant he bought a teddy bear and planned to give it to her in the future. ya know, like tons of dads do. I did the same thing. I was in the army and deployed so I bought a teddy bear and slept with it, put my shirt on it and stuff to have my smell so she could give it to our daughter when she is born. did he have to tell reddit about the baby shower for them to believe it happened? it wasn't relevant to the story.

I'm sorry but the first story feels like a template relationship advice story. -OP is LGBTQ+ -OP has family members who don't respect him for that reason -OP's sibling has a SO who is also homophobic and more vocal about it than the sibling -OP thinks the relationship is improving -OP's sibling requests he come to a wedding without his partner -OP refuses and is called an AH by bigoted family members -OP's token supportive family member comes to his rescue -OP's bigoted sibling reveals they were more bigoted than they let on -Relationship is over Go to Relationship advice right now and you can probably find a dozen stories with these exact beats in about 30 minutes.
