60HZ in 2024 should be illegal. They should at least gave us an IPad Mini “Pro” with Promotion/120 Hz and FaceID. If you only own 60Hz Apple devices you might be just fine but all my other apple devices (Mac, IPad Pro, IPhone) are ProMotion enabled and when I was using my iPad Mini I could definitely tell the difference and it’s quite annoying, sufficient so to just cancel it’s main advantage: the form factor. I love the form factor of not only the iPad Mini, but the iPhone Mini as well. I upgraded to a regular 15 Pro phone recently and it feels like a brick in my hand. What I'd love is to have a 13" iPad Pro to my artwork on (which just sits there collecting dust when I'm not arting at it), and an iPad Mini for everything else. Hanging out on the couch, taking it with me, reading comics in bed, etc. The iPad Pro has a setup on my desk. A Mini never would. It would be the *actual* portable device the iPad is marketed as.

Didn't expect much from the iPad mini 7 upgrade considering the target market and pricing. 8GB RAM and A17 Pro already assures users that the Mini 7 will last for years AND has more muscle to execute more complex tasks. Thank God they got rid of the 64Gb base model. Though I'm bummed it still doesn't have Face ID and brightness hasn't changed much. I hope Jelly scrolling is fixed, but using a Mini 6-- it doesn't bother me much at all. I'd grade this release a B, maybe B+. - is it worth upgrading from an iPad mini 6? If you're a power user, yes! For casual users, maybe not. The iPad mini 6 is still snappy today. I doubt you'll experience a significant difference.

The number one complaint wasn’t addressed after THREE YEARS - old display tech (low refresh rate) and jelly scroll. Second most requested feature was FaceID and they didn’t even add that! They didn’t even thin the obnoxiously wide bezels. Most people aren’t pro artists demanding the pro pencil and the other upgrades like Bluetooth 5.3 is inconsequential. And I speak as someone who has loyally stuck with Apple for 13 years, but loyalty as a customer never pays in the long run. I own a 11 inch M1 iPad Pro, but I find it a bit bulky. I have never used the camera or lidar till date, but screen quality is important to me. Would've preferred an oled screen and an M series chip, but it is what it is. I've watched all your reviews on ipad mini 6 and have been considering this form factor. So, should I go for the UPDATED mini now, or wait for the future optimistically possible UPGRADED mini with the OLED 120 Hz screen? Could you pls consider these points while you review it.
@kylecastellino6402Күн бұрын
Nah dude since they just updated the mini and it has neither pro motion nor OLED I wouldn’t wait. If you want a thinner and lighter device the iPad Pro M4 11 inch is the one for you. I was torn between the mini 6 and pro M4 in July but copped it for the pro and couldn’t be happier. The kind of upgrades we want and expect like OLED, Face ID and ProMotion will take about 5-7 years at the rate Apple is going. Remember, they prioritise Pro - Air - Mini - regular iPad. My advice would be to get the 11 inch iPad Pro M4, if you don’t like by all means return it. And then get the iPad Mini 7. At least you can buy a pencil pro and use it for either tablet. Hope this helps :)

So I don't know. I have an Ipad Air previous generation which... I use for one app not available for android (ASENSEI). I don't need big Ipad. I'm android guy - Tab s8 Ultra/ S24 Ultra/kindle plus other matte android tablet for one reading app. Would I use small Ipad on trips more often - probably as my Samsung is stationary mostly. Do I need It - not really. What do I do - I don't know.

I preordered as soon as it was announced as I haven’t had a iPad mini since the first one and I think now is the time to change to this one as the new AI stuff will be awesome 🤩 can’t wait

Tim Cook special. They take some OLD parts (A17 Pro, LCD 60Hz screen, etc) and use them in the iPad mini. No Promotion in 2024 is just not acceptable.

Weird the Apple Pencil Pro works on the A17 chip and not the M1 or M2 iPad Pros. These kinds of leap frogging updates make me hesitant to upgrade anything due to limited support and functionality. What even makes a device “Pro” anymore when after buying it within 12 months it doesn’t support new features. Not great. Adding confusion to an already very convoluted iPad lineup.

I'm pretty sure the Apple Pencil Pro compatibility is hardware-related - i.e. magnet placement for charging.

is there actually a point upgrading?

They could fix the jelly without upgrading the display because apparently the effect is due to the orientation of the display.

Would the iPad mini be worth it for note taking?

yes. it’s better than a regular sized ipad.

Won’t be replacing my mini 6 256 anytime in the future. Not a big enough upgrade for me.

I will be buying one for a travel device. I’ll get the WiFi+cellular in 512GB. I haven’t heard if it has a landscape FaceTime camera, that would be nice. The rest of the spec bump is good for how I’ll use it. Price from 256gb to 512gb is ridiculous.

My simple question is this: Is it worth replacing my 6 with the mini 7? I don't need Apple AI if it isn't better and gives me something more than ChatGPT.

no, its not… remember: if you use the apple pencil on your mini 6, you’ll need to buy the new pencil pro for 120,- too…

I was looking for a small tablet and didn't want to buy the old mini 6. And as there were no news about the upcoming new ipad mini, I've already decided to buy the Galaxy S9 (but haven't bought yet). I believe this is a sign) I really love the ipad mini's size but want the modern stuff in it

It sounds like the A17 Pro are surplus bin SoCs they had left over from the iPhone 15 Pros production. It’s a shame they did not go with A18 that’s in the iPhone 16 models.
