Well I got the feeling that actually the thing being tested here were not actually the Cards but the appraiser. I find it strange that someone sent you these three black lotuses of three different quality of counterfeit. being fooled once, Ok, but thrice .... ? maybe someone id trying to see if these counterfeits can pass the appraisal test. I think that person knew perfectly weel he was sending you forgeries. Anyway the warning should be clear to anyone trying to spend big bucks on those cards : only buy if you know exactly what the real Mc Coy should look and feel like. I think a new player should stay away from the temptation of buying those. You really should be familiar with older cards before trying to make that purchase. on the several test viseos I've seen the back of the chinese counterfeits is always off. So I believe this should be the first thing to check.

There is a noticable difference between the blacks around the cards on the fake ones. It goes from very dark to light dark. Those are bad fakes.

Yeah, back in January of this year, all my interest in power 9 died when I haggled with a seller on ebay with only 9 recent 5 star reviews for an unlimited Black Lotus and I had graded unlimited cards and a card I had kept from child hood and the pattern looked fine to me under a jewlers glass but I did like the light test(?) and normally, I think..., you should see the magic font on the back come through the light passing through the card and the card did feel a tiny bit too thick which is why I quickly felt I had to try the light thing that worked on the card I am pretty sure is from when I opened a couple unlimited packs. Bottom line for me is no real vintage tournaments means to me no real interest in the cards, especially given like the absurdity of trying to authenticate every card people would bring for a vintage tournament. Can't even imagine a reality where big vintage tournaments exist given the current state of magic branding and community development over the past 7 years I've been back as a player.

I've seen you do these videos outdoors before. Do you find that natural sunlight helps you determine fakes easier? Otherwise, I'd be scared to take them outside and some wind whip around and blow them into the dirt.

Got any proof besides your word? It's not like a card's condition, particularly cards not very well cared for, will deteriorate over time, it's not a secret that stresses will, especially if repeated, damage various materials, be they plastic, steel, rubber, or paper - it's simple physics. The fact that others have encountered real cards failing means there is a nonzero chance of this happening, therefore an absolute generalization like yours can not exist.

Fake cards will allways be an issue as long as they achieve these prices. But honestly these fakes are so obvious, even on camera. "Mono Arifact"... really ? But a bit off topic. I like the signature on your playmat! That's so awesome. I'm still waiting for Brians reply. :(

Misses, or at least fails to mention, the most glaringly obvious detail, "Arifact" on not 1 but 2 versions, doesn't even do a proper bend test while saying it's a bend test, skips light test and doesn't have a loupe handy... doesn't seem to actually think it's in any way suspicious to get poorly packaged obvious fakes of 3 different varieties to do a video critique on... "contact us for appraisal" lmfao no thanks. Hope this was april fools and i just trolled myself, but I doubt it it.

I use these proxies for my cube. They are perfect for that. When wotc made the reserve list they brought proxies on themselves. If wotc wants to stop the spreading of more fakes/proxies they need to make their own proxies with new art

Right out the gate okay here we go! I owned 2 beta lotus’s in my life the fact the ink is so faded on the far right is obviously a sign, The boarders also do not stay consistent and the ink doesn’t just pop like my beta versions do the unlimited now this set I’ve owned a lot of and up till you got closer to the text box on it I couldn’t tell nor with out looping any of them either. I had someone bring in a timetwister in an old screwed down case bought it for 1,000 a year ago with out looping it or touching it I already noticed flaws in the inking and after a light test and loop the store manager handling the trade in came to me a whispered you were correct cause I went to him and said triple check it it looks fake and even though the guy who brought it in was one our casuals we had to break it to him it was a fake.

i wounder what is the main thing from stoping someone with a bit of money from making identical copies to legit ones. like its quite of easy to point out fakes but I mean why cant they find the same card stock? I dont thik wizards of the coast make their own custom stock and even more so when they started out. and the same goes for ink and printers and the cutting devices...

Do counterfeits ever slip by BGS or PSA for the 93/94 cards that u know of, or are they good about catching those? I’m not saying the counterfeits are always great, but it is easier to tell especially the revised duals if we have real ones to put next to it... so I’d trust u or Rudy 100% of the time on it, but the grading services don’t have a library of real cards to put them up against, right? Maybe it’s a bigger deal on newer cards like Liliana or snapcaster because those counterfeits seem to be better.

I can't speak for MtG, but for Yugioh cards BGS has indeed graded fake cards. At the end of the day, BGS graders are human beings and mistakes can be made. Remain vigilant.

They've graded plenty of rebacked cards, and also labeled inked Unlimited as Beta. (These are alterations rather than complete fakes) As far as actual fake cards, I've seen a graded fake FBB dual land.

MapRef41N93Wx yes, I believe that was a snapcaster which was graded by PSA. The newer counterfeits are actually pretty good, especially if you don’t have a card to compare it to side-by-side or don’t pick up on things like glossiness or texture red flags. That’s why I would trust guys like Daniel or Rudy because pretty much any significant card which exists they have real versions of to compare directly to. But BGS and PSA don’t, so that actually makes it tougher for them.

You need to write FAKE on these with a ball-point pen, or rip them up, and these are NOT acceptable as proxies. As proxies, basic plains with the new card name written on them are acceptable, and the proxies i like have a new design, with the current oracle card text, maybe new artwork, maybe new frame, maybe a new set symbol as a brand for the creator. If they can be mistaken for the real thing, the person should be ashamed for owning and showing them, they are fakes and not proxies if they can be mistaken for the real one at first glance while double-sleeved. The only way the old, unchanged design can be used as a proxy is if it is a foil. There are some stunningly beautiful foil black lotuses out there. If you cannot afford nice proxies and have to use fakes as proxies, you deserve backlash, rip them up and go for basic plains with a card title written on them. Or use these, but write FAKE on them with a ball-point pen. This stuff is toxic.

Especially when in this section is someone that disagree's with you in part at least... Ironically I've no real vested interest in magic at all. Which allows me an almost unique clear view. The last time I held magic card was...I want to say a decade ago? And they were pretty old cards by today's standards. Simply put you're an idiot if you think that YOU get to decide what is or isn't acceptable to others. If you're a Magic player, I'm sure you've got at least one group that has some off rule that doesn't conform to "normality". That is one of the beautiful things about games like Magic, families, and groups tend to have unique rules and things for their games. And I really think the power of what should and shouldn't be allowed at those games is best left in their hands. If they decide to use fakes or proxies, then let them have their fun. You don't have to participate, you don't even have to watch. But, you don't get to dictate other people's enjoyment of the game. That is my problem with you. I don't care you dislike proxies or fakes, I care you think you have the right to tell other people what to do.

wizards could fix this easily by just selling their own reprints. Reserve list should be done away with. No new players can enter vintage, or get the best cards in magic's history for their edh or cubes or just to have fun with. It's stupid and benefits no one, except the insider trading secondhand hoarders who work for wizards. Guarantee you we will find this to be the case eventually.

I wonder if the shipper had an idea they were faked and that was why he didn't ship them in hard top-loaders . We're the packs bought at the same time? Pulling 3 lotuses is near impossible on any given day, let alone two for a year, three in three years etc. He may have been embarrassed to say so, but it could've been a nod and a wink at "apprasing them" but maybe he didn't want to admit he got had, so he sent them to you knowing you'd spread the word.
