I day trade the S&P Emini, Crude Oil and some currencies and use nothing but technical analysis. I have been consistently profitable for the last 5 years. He is correct that everyone sees the same charts, but not everyone interprets them the same way. Have markets been rigged? Of course they have, but it's not continual. Trading is more about psychology than anything else. Psychology is probably 80% of it, not chart reading or fundamental analysis. There are literally hundreds of different ways to trade and each of them are probably valid ways, but if you don't have your head on straight, you'll end up losing no matter what system you employ.

what he means by 'rigged' is the markets are manipulated and the prime objective of the big players who can actually move the markets is to hoover up retail traders money

Lol kinda true but still I am still able to generate ~240k a year by TA and reading charts. Sure volume, buying power etc goes into account but its TA at the end of the day. The main reason why people lose money is because of greed and poor risk management. Just to say u cant make money with TA ist silly in my opinion.

well actually I mainly focus on technical analysis only, you'r right. However, I always want to keep me trade simple, I hate to get too much information since it makes me overwhelmed (for example, bad news but great chart,..). I base on technical analysis to analyze the key level, then play a patient game. In other words, instead of going into the fight between bull and bear, I wait to see who win the battle based on candlesticks, then place my trade along with the winner.

This is so true. Whole market is rigged and controlled by computers and algo. I always wonder, if its human trading how can it sell and buy so accurately at certain price point, everyone so in unison in terms of value of the stocks? Not possible. I believed the algo set the major direction and its the traders setting the prices while trading in between.

Totally makes sense... if they know what everyone is going to do, then they can keep the market stable enough to make money off the investors. If they did not, then the market would be so out of control that nobody would make any money. ANNNDDD.. they can't just up their prices or pull the shares out of the market because everything is reg'd, SO, they can influence the market with their own traders buying and selling large amounts of shares behind the scenes, OR, prime the market with upcoming news.

When Merrill Lynch buys 100,000 contracts the price is going to go up. There's no way to know for sure when that will happen, but if it JUST happened a week ago and they haven't been able to sell all those contracts for a profit and the price goes back down to the price they bought all those contracts, they will most likely buy more to defend the position. Volume and price are the only "real" indicators. All the other ones just make things easier for your eyes at a glance.

Technical analysis is crucial for your risk management, Without it, the majority of traders (excluding very long term investors) are doomed to fail.
@Mlogan117 жыл бұрын
Technical analysis works, but you have to be able to see BEYOND the simple thing that everyone can see. You have to be a good "between the lines" reader. The market is rigged in that all the big players try to move the market by whatever means they have if they can get away with it. The fact that it is still a competition, means the mkt isn't fixed and no one really controls the market. So if the big players control the market movement, just bet on which big players will prevail.

Dude if it was so good funds would be using it as a main strategy and NO ONE ever does... You realize there are no good rich TA analysts? It's a bunch of BS to sell that narrative, notice how it's usually always taught by some guy making youtube videos trying to sell a course? It's really easy to explain and to justify in hindsight. It works as a way of analyzing and working a way to exit and enter a position but people confuse it for an Idea Generation tool which is why 90% of traders get run over in the long run. Met this one guy who trades so much that he told me only knows ticker symbols not the actual companies they represent.. funny how they only ever talk about their wins but not their losses. My advise is get proper education. It's amazing the damn comments in this video and the amount of likes they get..

Mlogan11 so true technical analysis is almost scary when you see the candle sticks bounce off support and resistance on various charts. I love technical analysis. Always put stops afar off support or resistance traders miss that support and resistance is an area not a number
@rretro20423 жыл бұрын
It's hard to believe but on certain timeframes technical analysis alone is enough to make you some money, nothing crazy. But again of course if you want to exploit full potential of the markets and catch big opportunities you got to look at a bigger picture and expand your viewpoint outside of technical analysis.

I think what he is saying is that the market is manipulated by many factors other than the chart. The chart of an at least one-minute behind reflection of the entire picture. Too me, this isn't to say the chart and indicators aren't useful, but they really are just telling us how many people are also interested in a certain stock; how a corporate, news or political event is being reflected - for positive or negative. Group plays, corporate manipulations, etc are also a factor.

how long have you been trading? as an early trader I would get emotional about what I thought was a reversal and often times entered too soon. controlling that emotion is a big step forward. I agree, wait for the prediction analysis to converge with the lagging indicators and then you will have your answer, not before.
@Internal0str7 жыл бұрын
been trading 2 years now only just found a style that works for me after a lot of struggle. I see where you are coming from, but I had problems with the other side of the puzzle; I would wait too late to enter, as I wanted the trade to absolutely work out and my stop not be hit, but then I would wait too long and the big move had already passed therefore I wouldn't have taken the trade. I guess it's better than losing money but I realised that psychology gets you nowhere in trading so I'm taking high quality set ups as they come. yes waiting for a reversal on the low time frames (5min, hourly for me) with a reason for doing so on the higher time frame and going with the momentum is simple but very effective. I'm not too keen with moving average crossovers as I've studied enough charts to be able to read the bend with my own eyes however some people love them.

If stock markets are not rigged. What's the point of Quantitative Easing then? What's the point of circuit breakers in the event if a sudden crash? What's the point of Central bank intervention through Interest rates? Wonder why banks invest millions just to have micro second avantages over retail investors and take opposite trades against large order? Of course the markets are rigged to provide liquidity ... Which is a good thing. Next people will say OPEC (the Cartel, hint) doesn't manipulate/ rig crude prices.
@traderobserver91096 жыл бұрын
according to his logic, supports and resistances and other clear indicators shouldn't even exist.. because as soon as the "smart" people saw them forming, they would trade in the opposite way and doing so changing the chart itself destroying the figure, and creating so a repeatable and constant case for retail traders to study. Going on, what kind of market is he talking about? In the Forex market Retail traders rapresent only the 10% of the entire volume.. 90% belongs to central banks and hedge funds.. so if this is the case the "smart people" would be the vast majority stealing money from themself.

Everyone has a level of knowledge and that knowledge and how it is used is like a fingerprint no two people are the same. But sometimes we can say with definite surety, that another person’s belief in something that they believe is right is definitely wrong. That is the case here; commodity markets are not rigged and on the whole neither are equity markets (not for the lack of trying by some people). There are no gnomes of Zurich running the markets, the predominate thing controlling markets is human nature, put another way emotion. That is why markets never change, also the reason why conservatively 90% of traders lose. Markets are a ‘closed-system’ money is not manufactured in markets; all that happens is money moves from one account to another, from an incorrect view to a correct view. Technical analysis (in my opinion) used correctly! is the best way to see what is happening to a market in the future, all the information about a market is hidden in the numbers from the past, analyzed properly these numbers can tell you what will happen in the future. The future cannot be a blank to a trader, because everything a trader does is about what will happen in the future. They will not let you place a trade in the past, when you place a trade your money is on the line about what will happen in the future. Another thing that will not make the computer nerds happy is you have to do a lot of the work yourself manually. That is not to say computers are not essential in trading today but pushing buttons and having the machine do all the work for you, is not the best way for you to gain understanding. The human body has more nerves running from the brain to the hands than any other part of the body, using our hands is a major function in our learning. Look at the people in this clip, look at what they do with their hands they are using hand gestures as a part of their communication.

Everyone has their expertise and strategies you hit that one spot on, where you are wrong is when you say you can clearly say he's wrong. He's actually not, nor is he saying that using technical analysis is wrong. He's saying using it as a primary tool is not a good method becouse of the nature of the markets can provide false readings. Can you pull off some profit just using the basics? Sure, you can also flip a coin if that's your thing. But what he's saying is the key difference in the guy who can make 10k a month with a 100k bankroll , and the guy who can make 100k with a 10k bank roll. It takes a long time to fully understand what he's trying to say. Instead of joining the peanut gallery and saying he's wrong you might push your game to next the level and try to understand how he just might be right. Once upon a time there world was flat..

The Stock Market is not rigged. Instead, It is a simple system that has been FULLY EXPLOITED by very influential and wealthy people, groups, organizations and institutions. If it was rigged they wouldn't have to go through such lengths to command the market. For every one person who take the time to do their homework, look at and study technical charts, present and past, for hours, days on end, in order to learn the language of the market, there is an extremely high exponential number of others who refuse to do so. This is where the edge will always exist. If you win too much at a Casino, they label you a cheat and ban you -you're an anomaly, a divergence and a nuisance because you've figured out the system. In the Stock Market, this sort of person is allowed to continue playing, in most part because their return is laughably nominal compared to that of the market.
@TidusTrading5 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say rigged, just efficient! Why should you be able to just look at a chart and predict the future and make tons of money? The markets aren't that easy! A quant fund can put your technical analysis (chart patterns, Fibonacci levels, etc) into an algo and do it a million times faster than you, and with much more accuracy! This has caused technical analysis alone to be arbitraged out of the market.

Market is definitely rigged, those who don't agree are in denial. And the big players are happy if retail traders are in denial. TA is definitely useful to let you know where they big players are moving. The problem is not where but when. If retail traders enter before big players moved, they are eaten up. So move only when big players move that's how not to get rigged. If you move only after big players move, do you still really need TA to tell you? For algo traders, TA is needed to indicate when the big players move without the need to sit in front of the screen to wait for the move. Hence here is when TA is for retail traders to understand when and where ie direction of trade the big players moved

Disagreed. Oversimplified views. Not very precise statements. Define the timeframe before saying if technical analysis works or it does not. It is very different on a 5 minute chart versus daily chart or a 10 second chart. There are still technical patterns that can make you money trading on a 5 minute chart. Yes, the institutions that are extremely sophisticated (algos, AI, etc.) "break" the patterns and take money from retail traders. However, with enough experience (12+ years of trading everyday in my case), you see that and do not get trapped too often or can even piggyback on their moves. I have to agree with one thing 100%: the markets are rigged! Not only that, I think that certain brokers play all kinds of tricks on retail traders. You do not believe me? Review court records, one of the major ones in the US paid $30 million in fines for front-running retail orders with their own just a few years ago. Furthermore, the biggest, cardinal, and most profound mistake that most traders make is focusing on predicting the next move instead of practicing excellent money management and working on their psychology, especially when trading short-term. Good luck to all trying to succeed! It is not easy, but it can happen. You just need to do better than just looking for a head and shoulder patterns or a hammer. -:)-
