If you shut down the power to the US, you'd have to shut down power going to Canadians, because it's all intertwined. In the summer months with little rain, the US starts supplying Canada with power, because your hydro requires running water. A few years ago during a drought, the US supplied a big chunk of Canada. The Koch company is a huge exporter of fertilizer that could dry up as Canadian fertilizer becomes more attractive because of increased material cost. Last I checked oil is purchased all over the world and our heavy grade of oil is what US refineries are designed to process not the light shale oil the US is fracking. Canadian Uranium is the purest and highest grade in the world it requires less refining. Hmmm France just lost their source to cheap low grade uranium. For years the Canadian navy/ coast guard would plant the Maple Leaf with a bottle of CC on the Island and a few weeks later the Danish navy would remove the Maple leaf and the bottle of CC and plant their flag and leave a Danish bottle for the Canadian navy on it's next visit. @BlueRaven-q2x10 сағат бұрын
Trump is a Liar. If 🇨🇦Canada was smart it would consider joining the emerging BRICS economies which include China, Russia, India and Saudi Arabia which is going off the USD.. As it stands now Canada sells 98% of its LNG and 60% of its Natural Resources to the USA for very low prices. The idea that the United States “subsidizes” Canada to the tune of $200 billion annually is an erroneous interpretation of the economic and energy relationship between the two nations. This claim lacks the analytical rigor necessary to withstand scrutiny when we consider the facts. First, Canada is a critical supplier of energy to the U.S., providing a substantial portion of its crude oil and natural gas needs. Approximately 60% of U.S. crude oil imports come from Canada, most notably from Alberta's oil sands, a resource that represents a significant part of Canada's energy production CANADA ENERGY REGULATOR . The United States also imports 98% of Canada’s natural gas, an essential resource that powers homes and industries across the U.S. during the colder months EIA . This energy exchange is a matter of mutual necessity, not a one-sided dependency. The term "subsidy" implies one party is providing financial support to the other. In this context, it is crucial to distinguish between a trade relationship and a financial aid arrangement. The energy Canada provides is not given as a charity or a handout; it is sold at market prices, reflecting the value of the resources being exchanged. The United States, in return, exports over $300 billion in goods to Canada annually, including vehicles, machinery, and technology EIA . This reciprocal trade benefits both economies and underpins millions of jobs on both sides of the border. Furthermore, Canada’s defense contributions are often undervalued in discussions like these. Canada is not merely a passive recipient of American protection; the two countries cooperate through NORAD and share responsibility for the defense of North America. Canada’s military, though smaller than that of the U.S., plays an active role in peacekeeping and global security efforts. The assumption that Canada “freeloads” on the U.S. military is therefore logically flawed and ignores decades of joint action. In sum, this claim of a "$200 billion subsidy" does not withstand scrutiny when examined through the lens of facts. Canada’s role as a supplier of essential resources to the U.S. is a mutual exchange, one that supports both economies. Similarly, the defense partnership is based on shared responsibility, not a hierarchical arrangement where one side is a mere recipient of the other’s generosity. Thus, it is neither logical nor accurate to claim that the U.S. is subsidizing Canada in the manner implied by such statements. Instead, the reality is a balanced interdependence, rooted in economic and security cooperation. 🇨🇦

@ you appear to pick and choose your stats to undergird your agenda. Canada is a great capitalist nation. 🇨🇦 …. is chosen as a better country to live in over the US …year after year. Dirt poor Red States in America have their folks live in Third World conditions no matter what metric you use… average income, life expectancy, test scores and morbidity rates. If someone in the family gets sick you can easily lose your life savings along with your house. So all that better disposable income just evaporates overnight. It seems like US is no longer able to be a business partner and it won't be. Canada should revise immigration policy instead of accepting individuals, we can ask corporations first to set up their manufactures in Canada then bring their own guys from their country w/ the certain creteria to operate their manufactures while we can grant them with PR and citizenship by the time. Canada needs to be efficient and compotetive whatever it does and the carbon tax has to end. The income and corporation taxes need to get loose, while we keep high altitude on human rights to make this country attractive. We need less bureaucracy and strong protection on personal whealth that ppl can feel secure. Digitalization needs to get addressed immediately, we are so behind. Also the food industry has to make sharp turn on organics, we do not have to be market for American Giants. The tourisim can get flourish if we can make this country easily accessible.

Canada is a large and strategically significant landmass, and if a U.S. administration, such as one led by Donald Trump, were determined to pursue territorial expansion as a policy goal, Canada might find itself in a challenging position to resist such efforts. Similar to Denmark’s limited influence over the U.S. interest in Greenland, Canada’s ability to prevent such actions could be constrained by the overwhelming power and influence of the United States. While such a scenario is highly unlikely and would conflict with international norms, the original sentiment suggests that Canada’s options could be limited in the face of a determined U.S. administration.

Nonsense. Trump is just using this as an excuse.
@SchnuffiJames18 сағат бұрын
I am all for a secure Canadian border but, Trump has border control backwards. It is a country’s authority to enact laws for entry into the country, and to enforce those laws; not the exit of things and people. So it is not up to Canada and Mexico to strengthen its outflow to the US, but rather the inflow to Canada and Mexico. It is up to the US to strengthen its borders! Newsflash: Canada does not inspect vehicles as they leave... only when they arrive here. It's up to the States to inspect what is coming in, is it not? We don't stop people from leaving; that would be what a communist nation does.

sure, you too! Canada has raw resources you use. Oil, lumber, uranium, etc So perhaps you should import your oil from Venezuela whereas we'll export us to EU. Good luck!
