DCrainmaker actually wrote that if friends ask him whether to buy the 8, he says "if you don't scuba dive and don't need the mic, get a 7 Pro/Epix Pro". By the way, the 7 Pro and Epix Pro will get way cheaper in a few weeks, maybe months, probably in the 500-700 price range (brand new). If you like MIP screens, just get the Enduro, it's the best value for money in this new line.

@benjamineschenbach25192 ай бұрын
I just upgraded from the Fenix6 to 8 AMOLED and just too happy about the purchase. The screen and layout does make a massive difference. Also dive (scuba) on a very consistent basis. Very pleased thus far
@dimitri3996Ай бұрын
Still feeling the same after a month? I’m considering exactly the same upgrade. The Fenix 6 still does the job, so the main justification for the 8 is that it can replace my old fashioned regular maintenance required dive watch. Just in doubt whether to stick with MIP or go for Amoled.

Jenna is a world champion listener! She also made the whole point without any word salad…..pointed to her Fenix 7 and smiled. Bravo! (Of course she leveraged off Mark’s commentary) My Fenix 6 Pro 47mm is still fine. I’d go for a Fenix 8 except for: the price is crazy, who needs a speaker and text messaging when your phone is there, I don’t scuba dive or golf. I’d like to have the software upgrades, improved resolution, the torch, and improved GPS, the Orange band and casing…….but not at the price. Garmin is over reaching…..we don’t want phone functions, etc on our wrist.
@IustinPop2 ай бұрын
This was the best review of the 8th series. Fully agreed. And as other comments say, for the MIP lovers (that's me, too) the Enduro 3 is the thing. Cheaper, no stupid mic, with beyond great battery life. Thanks for a very direct discussion :)
@brianreiter55722 ай бұрын
The killer feature on the fenix 5X was maps. The killer feature on the fenix 6X was a 1.4” display - which was much more read able. Also the power manager. The killer feature of the fenix 7X was much more accurate GPS and the SatIQ feature that intelligently switches modes between bands to optimize accuracy and power. And also the torch. Both quite cool. The Epix 2 Pro brought together a 51mm case and a new generation HR sensor. The Fenix 8 51mm has an even more ruggedized case and buttons brought over from the Descent. This is not nothing as I have had the button gasket on a fenix fail resulting in a suddenly dead watch with sweat inside. That’s great but not worth accelerating your purchase of the next model. If you have an Epix 2 Pro 51mm it’s probably silly to upgrade to a fenix 8 51mm.
@lhzsdgsfbvv2 ай бұрын
The Fenix 8 47mm could be something? The same 1.4%" screen as in the Fenix 51mm but in a more compact case.

Would an upgrade from instinct 2x to fenix 8 solar be reasonable? Really not enjoying the display or lack of maps/features.

Let's also say that most women or other small wristed people that want a MIP are ignored in this release. So to me this is a downgrade, as I got the Fenix 6s Sapphire because I wanted a watch that looks kinda nice that I can easily use on a hike on a bright day and has decent battery life.

Spot on with the Fenix 6! I don't want a touch screen watch when running in the pouring rain. I love my Fenix 6S. It's just the right size for wearing it day and night as my regular watch, and does everything I need as a sports watch - from walking the dog, adventure hikes, trail running, to cycling, and open water swimming. It does the job it's meant to do! As long as Garmin keeps supporting the Fenix 6 firmware upgrades I don't see the point in upgrading.

Garmin choice is a solid predictor of racing ability in my national 40+ age group scene. Some key learnings being - a) $1000 Garmin wearers can’t hold my wheel. 2) The guy telling me about his $1000 Garmin pre-race walks through aid stations on the half-marathon. c) Old model Forerunner wearers can probably break 10 hours on the Ironman. 7) $1000 Garmin wearers forget to hit the button when leaving transition - the yelp of agony can usually be heard after the first kilometre when they first look to check their pace and realise their precious stats are ruined. I wear a Forerunner 955 BTW….

Got a 2nd hand fenix 5 for £95 last November. More than happy with it. Great for hiking and camping with the long battery life. Also s7 Apple Watch, battery only lasts a day and the touch screen was a bit temperamental while trying to start a swimming workout. Just like to say thankyou for the videos. I find them really informative and inspirational from both of you. I have metalwork in my legs and a fused joint in an ankle that’s means no running, but cycling I can do. Have you got any tips on motivation? I seem to go through periods of no interest or motivation from time to time and what fitness I have drops off. For a challenge for you, have you thought of doing the Royal Marines endurance course? I think the civilian one is called ‘commando challenge’ Thanks again

My 18 month old Enduro 2 is staying firmly on my wrist. The really effective upgrades with the 3 are a slightly higher contrast screen, slightly longer battery life, and upgraded HR sensor... of the 3 I wear a chest strap when I want really accurate HR, and that's already better than the newer HR sensor in the Fenix 8/Enduro 3. If for some reason I were to break this Enduro 2 I'd go for a 3 but otherwise we'll wait until there's actually a good reason to replace it.

So if I buy your used Garmin Epix …. Will it automatically let me do 10k runs in a manner that lets me see it as “a quick evening run with the dog”?

As usual excellent review and to the point, I have a question please if you could give it some thought. I'm looking to buy either the Epix, Epix sapphire or the Fenix sapphire solar, my use will be much less rigorous than yours. I'm pretty sure that the Fenix 8 is not required for me,, I can get the standard Epix gen 2 in the stainless steel for £325, the sapphire Titanium Epix Pro for £705 and the Fenix 7 Pro sapphire solar for £599.99 all 47mm, what do you reckon? based on your usage etc. I could go standard Epix and get a screen protector but not sure, the price is good, I think. cheers Andy.

Literally bought the 6 on your review a month ago for £400 but probably could have got a discount for even more if I'd realised the 8 was coming out. Very happy with my choice. Previously had the wahoo rival with auto triathlon mode but it packed in an got confused when I ended up walking up a hill on the bike so told me I was on the run leg

@Marklewisfitness you mis the best argument. The Fenix 8, combines the best things of the Forerunner 965 and the Epix. The Small Bezel/big screen of the 965 with saphire glass and led light of the Epix Pro.

I have a very bad habit of always getting the latest of everything.... costly and stupid trait.... This time with both the Edge 1050 and Fenix 8 - I 100% agree with you, I can't see the feature set improvement as I could in the past. That combined with the creeping high end price points, I won't be making the upgrade for either for the first time in many generations of the premium Edge and Fenix.

Totally agree with you. I decided to upgrade my current Fenix 6 pro to 7 pro. I was hoping Fenix 8 would bring more innovations, and after the release 7 pro is clearly good enough for half the price. And I still get the latest HR sensor, health, and recovery features I fish to have.

Did they change the charging pins. The charging pins corrode after 1 year of skin and sweat contact. I had fenix 5xplus and 6xplus sapphire both had the same pin issues.

hi mark and Jenna. I just bought a fenix 7 for £350 from John Lewis. sold my old fenix 6pro on ebay for £200. total upgrade cost £150!!! feels like a decent deal to me as I've now got a watch with a few upgrades and 2yrs warrantee.
