Totally agree. Reddittors as usual ignore parts of the story that do not suit their judgmental attitudes. They ignored OPs own opinion and openly denigrated his own experience in military. So he just showed then they were total AHs to him. Personally, I found it pretty entertaining, the fake seal and the embarrassed family deserved it all. Serves them right to have a joke as part of the family.
@MsLaughingRabbit4 жыл бұрын
Story 2: definitely NTA. I don't get "families" who turn their back on someone without second thought. Especially if they at the same time point out how kind and good that person has always been - if that's the case, then shouldn't you be questioning the story you've been fed? Tally up the general acts and impressions of the people involved and go "wait, this seems out of character"? Fucking hell, OP should send all family members the text as well as any other proof she has of SIL's nasty attitude, and tell them to pick a side. If they're still being idiots about it, she should just cut them out of her life - that's not a family you can trust to have your back. Build a new one with friends and husband's side.
@alexismyers60534 жыл бұрын
I think the only reason they're allowing the SIL to treat OP like crap is because they also believe the SIL is the only on who can give them grandchildren and they don't want to upset her, or she may never let them meet any grandchildren she gives them. If this is true, then the family are even bigger @$$holes in my eyes because they would rather destroy the mental and emotional wellbeing of an existing family by playing the SIL's stupid games just so that they can have a (what used to be) hypothetical family member. I honestly have to wonder if the SIL also got pregnant just so she can take these jabs at OP. Maybe one family member was starting to "fall out of line" in SIL's eyes, questioning if she will have kids or why she was so cruel to OP, so having a baby that is now real and not just hypothetical is a way to put them. Ack in "their place." I could be completely wrong about the last 2, but I think I'm right about the first. There HAVE been stories of families (specifically parents) doing everything to please the sibling most likely to give them a baby simply because they want a grandbaby and just absolutely destroy their relationship with the other sibling(s) because they feel those children never give them what this one sibling will.

1. My ex-army chaplain dad would probably be glad this stolen valor was reclaimed, though he'd probably say it deserved more tact. Story 2: I think a lot of people don't realize that a miscarriage of a wanted pregnancy results in grief. Real grief, especially after multiple losses. OP lost her child and her sister basically texted her "sorry you lost your kid but I'm pregnany celebrate me." OPs family needs to understand that her grief is real. You wouldn't get mad at someone who lost a baby or a toddler or a birthed child of any age being emotional IMMEDIATELY AFTER LOSING THE CHILD. My heart goes out to OP.

Stolen valor pisses me off like nothing else my papa was in the navy but then he got alzheimer's when I was in elementary and then slowly degraded as he got older and died when I was in 6th or 7th grade so I never really got to know him well (edited for corrections)

Last story: Nta. Seems like the brother is the golden child and OP needs to get out of there as fast as he possibly can. If his parents let him trampel over OPs feelings and borders all the time and get mad at OP for getting mad about that, they probably will never stop. What if his brother steals OPs identity or something because they happen to be twins and ruins his life by doing that. I know that seems far fetched but he was already impersonating OP by getting OPs car and who knows if he did that earlier in life already? Get out of there and don't look back, they don't respect or deserve you.

I'm so exited for you. I really hope it all works out perfectly. Meanwhile I've been back to the office for the first time in weeks. I have been given special dispensation due to mental health problems made worse by lockdown. Pretty weird to be alone in a normally packed department. It had the added bonus though of being able to catch up with your videos while digging through a load of neglected admin. Really liking the new music. X

Paradox ........ are you joking this isn't freaking anime or cartoon where you can name someone something stupid and it's going to be normal. What did she watch too much Ben 10 or YU-GI-OH?

Being a veteran and a former USN SAR Swimmer, I get it. Those that haven’t been subjected to training where you are always being threatened that you will be subjected to chipping paint in the fleet of you fail...yeah, I get it. My GF’s roommate claimed the same BUDS BS. This guy was a lumpy POS. I outed him. Not as dramatically, but I did. Pulled him aside and said he best come clean or I will do it for him. This was in the late 80’s. It’s worse now. So much stolen valor. People don’t realize that those that lie about military service take opportunities from real vets. It happens and it’s not good. Those of us who bust our ass and miss out on frat parties and other fun to serve don’t appreciate the lunacy. It’s not because we believe we are superior. It’s resentment that comes from those that claim they put in the work but didn’t.

Hope your digital legs are ready for tomorrow, you via spotify is helping me go to next town over on my lonesome. Thank you for unknowingly keeping me company during anxiety inducing trips to hell 😭

You're totally wrong in saying that. No measure is too harsh for those filthy, lying people who try to steal valor.

You love hearing what we do while listening? I'm sitting in Germany and am currently playing through all the Kingdom Hearts games all over again, but this time around I'm trying to do as much extra stuff as I possibly can (which is also why I didn't comment as much lately, using KZbin as background noise while grinding so I just click through the videos real quick) I just finished the first one.

story 1 nta my husband is in the army and due to injuries wasn't able to go on a special mission deployment that very few were selected for. missing that opportunity was devastating to him, and caused a deep depression because why be part of an extremely active deploying company in the army if you can't deploy. faking being involved in any form of military is so disgusting. if given the chance my husband would be deployed in an instant. but to talk about honoring and serving a country of which they didn't while people who don't get that chance while in the military is just shitty. for some people serving is their purpose and by not being able to, it leaves them empty. seeing others lie about something people dream of doing and work so hard to do and live for... I cant

If I remember correctly isn’t lying about military service a crime? Couldn’t the fake Seal go to jail?

Hey, Mark! Its currently 11:45 PM in California! I usually listen to you when drawing or playing video games, your voice is really suited for this!! Its a perfect hybrid between noticeable so you can pay attention but not loud or noticeable that it distracts you, which sounds really weird but I swear I mean it in a good way!

Story 1: NTA. Stolen valor should be considered a crime. You have people who envy those who actually served trying to pass themselves off as something they aren't. People like that make me sick. The majority of people who do serve are humble about their experience. They don't want to talk about it to hype themselves.

Every year, a newspaper here in NZ publishes a list of weird names that people around the world have given their children over the previous 12 months. Some names seem normal until seen as part of their whole name. One year, 1996, four names from the US really stood out: Toyota Corolla Wilson Chickenbone Robinson Ima Rose Bush Ima Hooker

When I have a kid(s) I want to name them something somewhat unique doesn't have to be completely original but unique enough to make sure they won't have to deal with constantly having someone else with the same name. Because I had to deal with that growing up and it's especially hard when you arent the popular one with that name, you have to deal with people saying your name and looking over only for them to say "ew not you!" Like it's your fault that you didn't realize they were talking to the other person with your name
