Other people's opinions, issues and judgement are not op's problem. This is a small, very personal and comforting way of keeping his beloved son, quite literally, close to his heart. That is a beautiful sentiment. Unfortunately, I think people are far too quick to rush straight to demanding divorce. A family therapist could be a great help, certainly worth a try before taking any major decisions. Op has already suffered one debilitating loss, I don't think he's ready to face another. If his wife does not listen or refuses to recognise his need for comfort then that would be a very different matter. I think op is a strong, caring and considerate man, his wife should recognise how fortunate she truly is to have him as her husband and partner.

Truly. This reminds me of those stories wherein a new spouse tries to get of things from their partner's first spouse that passed away. Trying to erase the memory of your partner's dead spouse has always seemed immature and selfish to me. To try and do the same thing with someone's child is exponentially worse and unforgivable to my mind. I can't even imagine how hard it is to lose a child, and OP found something that helps him cope with that loss, but it's too weird? F*ck that! I feel like trying to interfere with his grieving process like this because she's worried about what other think means they shouldn't have gotten married in the first place.

Ashes in a necklace which is hidden by his shirts the majority of the time he wears it, how is that strange or out of line? He hasn't set up a shrine to his son in the middle of the living room or get his room untouched all these years which many grieving parents do. NTA and OP should really consider whether he wants to stay in this marriage. A spouse or partner should respect your grief especially for a child who died far too young. Condolences on the loss of your son, OP.

Man. 1st story hits hard. Look at it in this way. When a husband loses a wife, he's called a widower. When a wife loses a husband, she's called a widow. When kids lose parents, they're called orphans. But when parents lose a kid, what do you call them? I don't think society has made one because it is unnatural and immensely painful. The wife is toxic.

for the second one, all I can think is that MAYBE this husband has a fetish he's forcing on people? He gets very defensive about it when his wife brings up her, understandable, discomfort with it. I wouldn't want to have sex with someone who acts like a baby, either. Either that or he's trying to end the marriage on purpose.
@hello93617
@hello93617 3 жыл бұрын
It would seem odd that he would just now start to try to get her into his kink, unless he was getting bored or just discovered it, which would be supported by the MIL comments that this was a midlife crisis. I would also be careful implying that this is malicious on his part. He could have a kink that he is aware is sexual yet. He just knows he feels good when he talks like a baby with his wife, and he doesn't know why. He sucks because he into looking at why he likes doing this, and not communicating with his wife, the person he's trying to get into this. Honestly she doesn't seem like the easiest person to communicate with, and I can empathize with the fear that if he comes out and says "I want to be treated like a baby sometimes. It gets me off/ makes me feel good (it might not really be sexual)" she will leave him. He's got to make a decision to either indulge whatever this is on his own time (porn if it's sexual, if it's not... I really have no idea. Maybe they make recordings of a woman talking to baby he would enjoy) or telling his wife what he likes and seeing if she's interested in helping him out (I feel like most SOs would be, men maybe a little less. It seems like we get in our own heads more, although I also can't think of any common kinks that women tend to have that match men's (not bringing in someone else and strange enough to cause pause)). Either way he's got to stop riding the fence.

The last story: I would recommend OP to check to see if his house is up on AirBnB. It sounds like Brian is running a type of scam; from the story, it seems like he had these two strangers book with him to stay in your house and then tried to put it in motion by tricking OP. Story 1: As a person who wears a necklace with my mother's ashes in it everyday, this person is absolutely NTA. When I lost my necklace once I felt very panicked and on the verge of crying when I couldn't find it, and it felt like the biggest relief when I eventually did find it. If someone were to deliberately take it from me and hide it, I would be enraged. No one has the right to disrespect something that has so much meaning to you. I also don't understand the concept that it's weird to wear a necklace with a loved ones ashes in it. It's no weirder, as Mark said, than keeping an urn full of someone's ashes in your home. I've had several people, even complete strangers, ask about my necklace and when I tell them the truth, they all reacted the same way, by giving me condolences and saying how nice it is to have a piece of my mom with me at all times. THIS is how those people SHOULD be reacting, not with disrespect towards someone who meant so much and unfortunately passed away far too soon. If his wife treats the necklace with so little value, then maybe he should reconsider the marriage.

About story nr 3: I was taught that it was completely normal to be the butt of jokes like that and just be polite and lighten up. Then later I was scolded for having no self respect and being a doormat. The pattern of this eluded of course pretty much every one until I had to get professional help for the resulting mental confusion. I'm glad more people are learning nowadays about toxic patterns of thinking. We learn that sometimes jokes are actually harmful. Not only because the victim of the joke is hurt, but because those who make the jokes internalize the toxic parts of the joke and make it a serious problem.

Story 1 The comment that said the wife had "crossed the finish line" was 100% correct. She thinks she has the right to dictate and control him now. My brother married a woman like that. There was "something" about her that I just couldn't put my finger on. She was the nicest, most perfect woman. Fit into our family perfectly. But there was "something." The joke in the family is that he left with her on their honeymoon and brought back her evil twin. It was that fast. When they got home a week later, suddenly we all needed to make an appointment, at least a week in advance, to see him. This included his own daughters. She even refused to "allow" him to attend the wedding of his oldest daughter. It just about destroyed our family. The marriage lasted 5 years, until just after the birth of his grandson. He filed for divorce. I paid for it. Best money I ever spent. OP needs to get out of the relationship and he is NTA. Hell, I would have thrown her ass out of the house FOR him......and we have never even met! Story 2 I briefly dated a guy when I was 20 (He was 34....yeah, I know) that would go into baby talk. I told him I didn't like it. He stopped doing it, most of the time. He's still say things like, "Sodie" for Soda, or when asked if everything was okay with his food in a restaurant would reply with, "It's yummies!" He largely kept it in check.....until the first time we were about to have sex. He went into a toddler voice and, being a normal healthy adult woman, desire turned OFF and mommy mode turned ON. Most women are wired to respond to the tones of a child in a specific way. Sexually isn't it. A toddler voice asking for my "boobies" triggers my brain to respond in a manner that is about feeding the hungry toddler.....not having sex with an adult man. I got up, got out of bed, got dressed. When he asked what was wrong, I told him that he needed to grow up and that voice had not only turned me off, it reminded me I needed to go home and feed my dog. He tried to talk me out of it....I left and that was the end of the relationship. I admit, I laughed when he got his mommy involved....rather fitting under the circumstances! OP is NTA......They need counseling. Or, he needs counseling.......and so does their marriage if he doesn't grasp that this is a problem. Story 3 Yes, it was that bad. The OP is not only an asshole, he's a Chad..... Story 4 OP is NTA. It's his home. You just don't do what Brian did.......

Story 1. That spouse has absolutely no respect for their partner. Its a sentimental item. To say it's creepy or whatever is just disheartening. She knew going in to the marriage that he would wear it all the time. To think she could change him wearing it is sad. Im sure there were red flags to this behavior ahead of time. She is just feeling more bold to put her foot down about it. Time to get out of that marriage if something he hides under his clothes is embarrassing. Toss the whole woman out. Story 2. Sounds like some weird joke find wrong. Like, he enjoys seeing his wife looking miserable or getting embarassed. I'd be embarassed too. There is a time and place for everything and jokes only go well with certain folks. But, that's just weird. She obviously isn't okay with it and he is making it be her fault with saying stuff like calling her a party pooper. That's some mental regressing there. Time to google search if he is in to age play stuff. Therapy and doctors asap if they want to save that marriage.

As someone who does age regression as a personal mental health thing (on my own; it's difficult to fully do alone but I don't have a partner and it's something I do to cope with certain issues I'm not going to get into right now) it's really baffling to me that someone would just kind of *go for it* in public, I mean, I hide my bottle and pacifier even in my own room because I never want to have to explain it to literally anyone aside from when I have a trusted partner, and even then, I will explain it 100% before I even think about doing anything around my partner. I know it's a trauma-based thing for me and I know it's not wrong, inappropriate, vile, or anything like that, I'm also aware of how society views it and I'm not going to force someone to take care of me when they don't know why I need to be taken care of. @@Lazy_scorpio TL:DR, i agree with the YTA, but personal assessment disagrees with the explanation of why YTA. i get the sexual nature of the comment, was unsure before, but the clarification helped. Thank you Onto the post, its difficult considering my previous belief of sexual harassment becoming harassment after the party acting is told to, in short, stop and the action is repeated. Similar to how if someone drove past you and yelled "F*ck you!" It would be rude, but not harassment. Despite this i do believe he failed to understand the rock/hard place he placed the girl into. She effectively had no way to de-escalate the situation due to her working and him being the client. As such my belief is, If OP isnt overstating what his wife would do, both parents are incorrect and on either extreme of the punishment, and a compromise would be best, hence OP not talking to his wife to decide and agree on a punishment caused more strife than there needed to be. Thankfully, regardless, if OP is correct the reaction has shamed OP's kid into not being likely to make further comments, and it does appear this is a first time occurrence based on the family's reaction and disagreement.

She was buried and not cremated as per her wishes, but if I had a necklace with her ashes in it, I'd do the same. All the time I got to spend with my mom was simply when I was a newborn infant and then she got sick. Why does everyone think that ash necklaces are awkward and weird? It helps people grieve and keep their old family close. Edit: I also forgot to point out that I'm getting my mother's jewelry sometime in the near future. Once I get it, I certainly am going to wear at least one piece everywhere I go, probably just a necklace but I digress.

Story 3: Damn I was thinking the number was something like a cheesy pickup line asking for her number to elicit that kind of response from the dad. That joke was horrible lmao absolutely YTA and damn thanks OP for trying to downplay that joke.

OP in story 1 needs to get a divorce. Wife is jealous of a dead kid, and that will never change.

Kinda love that everyone in story 2 thinks there's something medically wrong with the guy, even I thought there might be something medically wrong with him

. 1) If she did she would respect you and your son. When I was young my boyfriend died and I would wear his shirt alot and I would get a memory flash and react to the memory. (Usually laugh) My father told me to stop thinking about him he was dead. I was not allowed to say his name again. Say goodbye to the wife. I am sorry about your lose

I've had two different necklaces of ashes. My first one my ex best friend snatched and refused to return to me after we had a fight over me asking for gas money. I cried for weeks over it. I do not take this one off for anything. OP needs to get out of that relationship. That's not just disrespectful, it's cruel and evil.

Story 1: OP is not the Ah, there something wrong with the wife, she doesn't care about OP feeling and about his gief, she too focus on other people opinion. OP diovce her, and it not weird to have a necklace of his son ashes. Story 2:OP is not the Ah, what is wrong with the husband? The husband is a man child, he call his mom to talk to OP. This funny and weird at the same time. OP don't apologize, it's weird. Story 3:OP is the Ah, the comment the son made was racist and misogyntic. Omg and OP basically let his son get off scotch free with no punshiment and teaching him that this ok. The wife and other mom are right, he should be ban for saying that. Story 4:OP is not the Ah, Brain most likely set this up and use OP's house as an Airbnb and ignoring OP text about him being uncomfortable for having two people he doesn't in his home. Brain is the Ah.
