Story one: she has no right to be bitter, it was HER fault she got pregnant with another man’s baby and got a divorce. If she wasn’t cheating she would still have her husband. All of this is her fault if she really didn’t want to see her family torn apart and her children being hurt, she should not have cheated to begin with. Also there’s no guarantee the husband is going to be a good father to Op’s baby. He’ll probably treat the affair child lesser than his biological children and will probably end up abusing the kid. At least with OP there’s a guarantee that baby will have a good father. I am pretty positive the mother is not going to be a good mother and will allow the child to be treated less than or even abuse OP’s child herself because the child is a living embodiment of her mistake. So there’s going to end up being resentment.

LAST STORY: [rant] Why are so many people commenting on the idea that OP should not have let his stepdaughter hold her wedding in his house if he wasn't willing to do the same for his daughter? Let me run down some points as best as I can remember: 1- Stepdaughter's wedding, as far as I can tell, was from the beginning planned to be at OP's house. 2- Daughter's wedding, which came/comes later, was from the beginning planned to be held at an outside venue. 3- Some time into the planning stage (I think), Daughter's wedding venue closed unexpectedly due to the pandemic. Key word: UNEXPECTED In other words, OP wasn't favoring his stepdaughter with an at-home wedding whilst denying same for his daughter; he WASN'T EXPECTING to have to hold an at-home wedding for his daughter in the first place. The fact of the venue's closing only came later, and no matter how much people may try to argue differently, you simply cannot project hindsight knowledge into the past and act upon it in the past. OP didn't have any reason to deny his stepdaughter an at-home ceremony because he had no reason to expect that he'd be forced to deny his daughter the same. And yes, given the restraining order and all (even if it is expired), OP has every right to deny his ex access to his home; in between the daughter's ranting, try telling her to ask her mother why there was a restraining order against her side of the family in the first place. This is not a matter of equity. It's a demonstration that life is sometimes unfair. [/rant] fhew!

Story 1: Who does this woman think she is to demand that OP gives up his rights and walks away? If she wants to move on with her life like none of this happened then she can sign surrender her parental rights and leave OP to raise his child. What happens after that is between her and her husband.

Story 2: Everyone sucks. That poor child isn't something you pencil into your agenda for the day. You made a life together and your passing the kids around like it's the class pet and fighting about whos weekend it is to take it home. Why can't OP set up daycare or a nanny why is it on her husband just because the day was her husbands "day" to watch the child it's all on him?

Story 1: It's also possible, if not probable, that the husband will always RESENT OP's son. OP has a duty of care to HIS SON!!! _He_ did not put them in this position. She did! He's not put the happy home of their children in peril, SHE HAS!!! He needs to keep reframing it for her, not allowing her to say that _he_ is putting his child's siblings in this position. SHE ALONE did that. He will never know how her husband would treat his son. He has a right to not want his son growing up, feeling alienated, unloved, and increasingly self-hating, because his "father" (the only one about which he would be aware) doesn't love him, as he loves his other children. Even if, which I think unlikely, the husband manages to treat his son just as he treats his other children, that doesn't make it right. His son has the right to know HIS OWN father, HIS OWN family. SHE has made this a living hell, with her sin. Yes, I know, old-fashioned, out of favor word - but that's what it is. It's an immoral, selfish, harmful act. And she victimized herself deeply as well, which is ALWAYS the case with sin. Sin often seems alluring, but you end up harming yourself terribly, oftentimes, worst of all. In this case however, I see others as the greatest victims. OP, and the children most of all.

I hope you are doing well, Mark. Take care, be safe and stay healthy. Also much love from one who has been subscribed since way back and you were still Daddy Cringe. The poor OP of the last story, there was no way that was going to have a good ending. It was a case of "damned if you do and damned if you don't". If he did let his daughter have the wedding there and everyone was able to go into his house I can almost guarantee you that things would have gone missing, been trashed or had some evil prank played that would have ended up costing him a fortune in repairs. And then when the smelly brown stuff in the air circulation device the daughter would still side with mom and things would be no different than they are now.

Story 1: husband says he's going to adopt OPs baby... There are plenty of stories with a parent hating a little kid because they look like their bio dad... It's not worth trapping that poor baby with a resentful man. And even bio mom might hate that little boy too by putting her relationship failure on him and not herself. OP in story #1 better be DAMN sure he's ready to take on all of the responsibility and hell that will be becoming a part of this disaster of a family. If he says no, and decides he wants to be a dad, he doesn't get to bow out because it's "too hard." Either he signs away his rights, now, or he's "STUCK" with this kid, for life. Because that kid's life is going to be disastrous, if everyone knows the truth. There will be resentments, regardless. He better be the world's best father to that poor kid. So he's either in, forever, or he's out, now. No in between. Personally, I don't think I could do it, knowing what chaos and drama I'd be signing myself up for. What a mess.

Story 1. Actual question why doesn't the women give up her rights to the child and he just be a single father. NTA. It's his kid can we have so many stories of fathers being so s***** It's nice seeing one actually wanting to take care of their child. The mother shouldn't have any rights to that child and should have it taken away from her or at least he gets full custody or majority because I don't feel like she wants it and is going to mistreat it because it's in the way of having a perfect family with the other two children that she actually wants.

Story 2: ESH. Both of you are competing for your careers and putting yourselves above the other spouse. You are doing the same thing you are accusing him of and he is doing the same he is accusing you of. Communication and compromise are the 2 biggest components of a marriage and BOTH OF YOU are failing miserably at this. Another thing is that YOUR DAUGHTER COMES FIRST BEFORE BOTH OF YOUR OTHER PRIORITIES. BOTH OF you need to make some sacrifice for your family. BOTH OF YOU need to figure out a plan for childcare. BOTH OF YOU need to listen to your spouse and not just YOUR individual needs. BOTH OF YOU need to back off and compromise.
