It sounds like an emotionally abusive relationship. When people are in the middle of it, they're often so brainwashed by the other person they can't see things clearly, which makes it extremely difficult to leave. In other words-she has made him so insecure he doesn't think he can do better-or deserves better-than Mary. And now that she's destroyed his support system, he'll probably be going back (which I suspect was her plan when she lied about OP in the first place). I don't approve of how he treated OP, but I do feel bad for him being stuck in an abusive relationship.

@t.matthies3049 sorry but I still look at that as an excuse. Josh is a grown man who'll have to overcome his hangups to not only leave that relationship but to learn what red flags are to not enter into another toxic relationship. Otherwise he's a continuous victim by choice

@@t.matthies3049 I share your opinion. I'm mad at Josh for how he treated OP and I'm very frustrated that he just won't leave Mary. ಠ︵ಠ But for some reason, there's still a small part of me that couldn't help but feel sorry for him. He's brainwashed by Mary, his self esteem is in tatters and now he has no support system and Mary is all he has left now. 😢 Basically, Mary got exactly what she wanted. She's won as far as she's concerned. Now, don't get me wrong. I totally get the argument that Josh is a grown man who needs to face reality, get out of that abusive relationship and get help because at a certain point, you have to ask yourself, "Is this the life I want for myself? When do I say, I've had enough?" However, we do need to remember that leaving an abusive relationship is easier said than done. Studies show that it takes about seven attempts for a victim to leave an abusive relationship. Probably more without a support system or if you grew up with a mindset that abuse is normal and you must take it in order to receive love or approval. All that being said, if I was in OP's shoes, I would distance myself from Josh, but still leave the door somewhat cracked open for when and if he finally opens his eyes and leaves Mary once and for all.

Dude really went all Will Smith over nothing, ruined a long lasting friendship over some cheater, what an idiot. But in his defense Mary is abusive and has now successfully isolated Josh from his support system. She even has him publicly take the blame for all the lies and false statements she’s made and will go on to continue abusing him. So sadly, Mary won this one.

@@truthseeker9249 I understand that, but Josh knew she was a serial cheater and had filed for divorce. He didn't even give OP a chance to defend himself. First of all, Josh should never have married Mary knowing that she had already cheated on him multiple times. Then to instantly take Mary's word (a woman who has already proven herself to be a liar and a cheater) over OP who has been nothing but a good and supportive friend to him is mind boggling. He didn't even want to listen to OP's side of the story - just instantly blamed him and attacked him. Normally I would feel sorry for someone in Josh's situation but he brought this on himself. He doesn't deserve OP's friendship.

What exactly is her goal? Like if she was telling the truth, that would make the cheating worse, because she would have done it with a close friend as opposed to a stranger. And if she’s lying, then she just comes off as insane. Although since he keeps getting back together with her, maybe she knows that Josh will cut OP off but not her, and she’s trying to isolated him? Or perhaps she just wanted to hurt him. There’s only so many times that people can overlook his actions because of her. Insane. Mary may have been the catalyst, but Josh is the one who actually poisoned the well of his support system with his own hands when he attacked OP and spread rumors about him. This is on him more than Mary imo bc he knew who she was by this point and STILL believed her. I hope they make her pay the legal fees. It's unfortunate but all you can do is tell your friend hey as long as she's in your life you can't be in mine but I'll always be here for you when you finally get out. And before you go "you had time," I had a week or so to prep solo but only an hour at best to hash out strategy with my accompanist on the day of. So I have been in the crunch of "we get maybe two run throughs to iron out kinks, and then we are live." I made it work. I may have hated my performance that day but everyone else loved it. @@KCohere33 sorry but... there is almost always a reason behind someone changing their procession song from the traditional ones. And it's always usually a highly emotional and personal one. OP was the ass here. "Make it work" does not usually give leave to change the music program. It gives leave to change keys or otherwise modify the song to make it a better fit for the singer. And they probably know this. I have a similar background to theirs in music and voice. I never would have just changed it as my first option. I would have asked "how important is it that it be this song?" Before I went "guys, there is no way to adjust this to suit my voice." But I'm also going to point out what he did was also rude to the band. They practiced that song and he made them learn a new one on the fly. That was stressful for them at best. There are ways to change songs quickly to suit your voice (adjusting the key, finding alternate notes from the chords, altering how you as a singer attack the notes, etc) or at least make it work. I've been in his shoes. I didn't do this. I worked with the song selected.

One of the most common things I hear about weddings is that they never quite go as planned. Something always goes wrong. While that's a broad generalization, it is certainly very common. A dress gets ripped or stained, the ring is lost, someone gets sick, the cake falls over, etc. The important thing is the marriage ceremony itself, not the hoopla surrounding it. At the end of the day, Travis and Taylor were married, and that was the actual point of it all. He can hire someone else to sing for their first anniversary if it's such a big deal to them.

He would say, it’s no one’s business, don’t care what anyone makes up in their head. I distanced myself from him and changed jobs. Recently, one of my closest friends and I were talking about this person. She has thought for all these years that we had an affair. It’s been 20 years but I hate the fact that someone so close to me believes this. If I was inclined to find him, i would sue.

Story one. People, if you ever find yourself in that type of situation pay close attention to how those around you react. The ones that accept rumor and innuendo as fact, cut you off without hearing your side, join the mob against you without seeing evidence, distance themselves and refuse to give you the benefit of the doubt even when the accusations are contrary to your character and/or come from shady sources…do not let these people back in when the truth comes out.

As someone who sings the OP is NTA if you sing a song not in your vocal range it can ruin your voice and also ruin the song for people as well. I've heard many people try to sing songs not in their vocal range and OMG NO! It can hurt your ears or give you a headache. Or just plainly sound terrible. To those who say you should of sang it regardless obviously have no idea what they are talking about. I've been in choirs taken voice lessons been in a voice class and they talk about all of that. So sorry you have to go through all of this OP.

But he chose this crazy B and then chose to attack his best friend based on something she said that he had every reason to believe was a lie. Screw Josh. As for Mary, I wouldn't say she "won." I'm sure she didn't intend to get sued for defamation of character or harassed for legal fees. And now she will hopefully be much, much warier of tangling with OP and especially OP's Shiny Titanium Spined wife.

My family had a similar situation to S1. We were friendly with our neighbors. The wife was a habitual cheater. She caused issues between us all to the point we no longer talked. Right after she started having her latest affair partner coming to their house. Her husband was a trucker & at first, we thought he'd got a delivery driver's job because the truck in the driveway was a truck for a certain brand of food, then we saw the driver & realized that wasn't her husband & that company doesn't do home delivery. The joke was that the company doesn't do home deliveries but the drivers deliver in the rear. Husband finally found out about the affair & this time he'd had it as their kids were grown & out of the house so they divorced. He got the house in the divorce & came over to apologize for everything that happened. We told him the reason she started crap was so he'd have no support & we'd have told him about the affair if he hadn't been an AH to us & that was why she made trouble. That's what happened in S1. The wife didn't want her husband to have friends & support so she made trouble.

As a person who majored in music, took 20 years of voice lessons, and has sung professionally- it infuriates when people treat singers voices as a product that they can demand anything from without limit. Singers have different range (and within that, tessitura), timbre, weight, agility, quality, among other things that determine what repertoire is not only going to sound good but is appropriate for _the health of their instrument_ When people assume they can just “sing whatever you want to hear” it’s gross, it’s exploitative, and it makes you look stupid.

You know, I actually do like singing, and when I get to use the lower ranges of my voice, it does sound really good. But I have a major problem in that my vocal range is too limited for around 50-70% of music, so I never actually do it around others.

I'd also sue Mary for lawyer fees on top of everything else Story 2: I'm a singer, not professionally, but I took vocal lessons and performed on stage for years. When a song is outside your range, there's no way to make your singing sound good. I was a surprano (now a little closer to a tenner with my HRT), if I sang a song with notes too low for me to hit, it sounded terrible. OP did what he had to, but he should've spoken with the Bride and Groom about it before hand so they wouldn't have been blindsided

This story is just awful. 😢 OP and his wife make a great team. 💖 OP's wife in particular is such a badass! 😎 I honestly don't blame OP for cutting ties with Josh. And I guarantee you that she's not done punishing him yet. At this point I'm worried that this will turn into a murder case. 😰 Now, don't get me wrong. All that being said, if I was in OP's shoes, I would severely distance myself from Josh, but still leave the door somewhat cracked open for when and if he finally opens his eyes and leaves Mary once and for all.

This drives me crazy: for some f*cking reason people always believe liars. My mother was a HUGE liar and they knew she lied, they never believed the lies about people they liked, but when it came to me they always believed her lies - I suppose because they wanted to. As my mom always told me, "I'm at the bottom of the totem pole" meaning I had the least value in the family because I'm disabled and they don't like people with disabilities, they only respect strength. I'm glad it worked out for him. I certainly will never achieve that sort of vindication but stories like this help me feel better.

1) Well that is sure messed up in so many ways. Best friend is an idiot to know his wife lies and cheats, yet believes her over his happily married, morally upstanding friend. To attack OP is disgusting, the cops should have been called, and now his wife should also be facing a defamation suit. It is awful that his wife had any doubts, and that many friends also believed this BS. After update: It's good OP got a good attorney to be able to get the truth to come out in the quickest and best way. For the friend to still be in contact with his scummy wife is pathetic, and showing up at their door was unacceptable, but now having the Ring Camera evidence is good. It's also good to know who true friends are, and remove toxic people. 2) I think OP did the best they could, and as the bride was happy, the groom should have also been happy and grateful, not acting like such a jerk. After update: Good for OP for being so reasonable and understanding, and communication making this rift mend.
