Story 1: How evil is it to try to tear apart a family and turn a teenager’s father and brother against him, knowing that his mother is dead so he has no other immediate family and when you are supposed to be playing a parental role and actually looking out for him?! Anytime a private citizen puts you in a vehicle under the pretence of going to destination A and takes you to B, it's kidnapping. Not essentially kidnapping, kidnapping, full stop. Doesn't matter the relationship status. Work comes first, and the ESH is an AH who doesn't understand how nursing works, or how the profession has been hit, and is essentially condoning kidnapping.

Exactly! And she’s probably not being a workaholic in all likelihood since she does try to go to the occasional family event. So if a man doesnt make time for family, in all the movies youve ever watched, hes painted as the asshole. Similarly, shes an asshole. Life is about balance, no one is saying the guy isnt an asshole, just that she isnt spending enough time with family and seems to me like she doesnt take the time because she only goes to "the big events" so new years, thanks giving and christmas? Life is more than work, the husband is clearly at his wits end arguing the same point. Shes an asshole for not spending time with her family and for not listening to his needs and refusing to compromise. I bet hes asked her to attend countless family get togethers and she keeps saying no.

For sure this was a set-up by Ava and the hubby. The OP's problem is she didn't make it into a big issue as she should have in front of their family/friends. @@coreymartin6486 She's probably a narcisist. The introvert is a soft target she can lash out at. She casually spreads lies to cover her tracks and make the victim doubt their own grasp on reality. This is a form of venting for her to distract herself from her own self loathing and to distract others from her own perceived shitty self. Maybe she doesn't intend to get rid of the kid but its always something she can dangle over him and use against him. Convince him his father doesn't care about him or that he is a burden on his father to be got rid of. Story 2: the one who said ESH questioning why she needed to work so much, etc. SHE’S A NURSE YOU IGNORAMUS!! Hospitals are severely understaffed recently. Schedules are arranged a month prior that’s why OP could still attend big events which I presume where announced months before. One of the biggest stressors of a hospital staff (if the person is a decent one) is becoming the cause of additional stress for fellow staff members the moment they had to go absent last minute, whether the reason is valid or not.

Funny how none of her co-workers/friends had to work all those extra shifts and couldn't even cover one for her. But she does. OP has a classic problem nurses have. They're generally very big hearted and employers often use that against them to abuse them. And once they find one who they can really turn the screws to, they never stop. Husband was entirely wrong in how he tried to "fix" it, but there is clearly issues on both sides.

I think that ESH commenter on Story 2 is wrong. If you've been told no many times, and most likely by many people because he called up her work colleagues, that should be more than enough communication to get it though your head that she cannot attend his family's party. Also OP is not a workaholic. She states she does make time to make the big events and she in an industry where it's important to work more. In story 2, the comment saying that OP was ‘kind of an AH’ really bothers me because it’s not a part time job sort of ‘just change shifts’, changing shifts in a hospital is a huge mess. I come from a family of health workers (dad a doctor, mom is a phonoaudiologist) and even with how family oriented my dad was, he couldn’t just can’t call to the hospital and tell them ‘I can’t come today, I have a family BBQ sorry’, shifts have to be arranged or changed in advance because almost everyone has to adjust to this change. You know what he did? He talked to us. In OPs case, it sound like she’s tried to make her husband understand, but tbh it sounds like she’s like talking to a brick wall. The demand for healthcare is SO high right now and there is literally just not enough of us to meet the public needs. It’s to a point where it’s taking months to get an appointment with a doctor because there’s so many patients coming in and not enough doctors, nurses, and other medical staff to take care of them. We need every person we can get right now, especially in hospitals. I think that more than trumps whatever stupid BBQ the husband wants to go to, and she was far nicer about it then I would’ve been. He hugely overstepped by trying to badger all her friends to cover for her, and by literally kidnapping her to bring her to the BBQ instead of giving her a ride to work, without giving her a way to leave. story 3: reminds me of when i was in university. our school was on the property of an old historical manor that has a famous rose garden, and every year without fail, couples will bring photographers to the garden and do their wedding photos on the same day as move in day. which is totally fine since its technically public property and its a beautiful place, except that there is a dorm building right behind the gazebos in the garden where everyone wants to take pictures, and every year brides complain that there are random students "ruining" their shots. and whenever they complain the answer to them is always "ma'am, you're not paying to be here, but these kids are paying $20,000 to be here"

Story One: OP's wife: "Your son who just lost his Mom isn't warming up to me, best to alienate him from the rest of the family too. Honey where are you going?" Story Two: Commenter: Why is Op working so much? Answer: Because she's a nurse & the current public health crisis isn't actually over, so most likely the only way to get a day off for a family BBQ would be to trade for something major like Thanksgiving or Christmas. Currently there are many front line workers dropping out of the field due to the abuse they've been on the receiving end of at the hands of patients who believe that the current public health crisis is a hoax thanx to conspiracies they've picked up from Talk Radio & Politicians in the USA so not showing up at the last minute is a great way to lose your job or have some other kind of disciplinary action. Also being short handed at a restaurant can mess up an order, being shorthanded at a hospital can cost lives.

She told your oldest that Leo didn’t want to go last minute and that’s the reason you’ve canceled making him mad at his brother for a lie she told. She is a toxic parasite that’s goal is to make Leo go NC with his family once he turns 17. If you don’t want this to happen: leave her and choose your boys over her. They deserve better. Poor Leo deserves better. Be a father and protect your children. They don’t need this especially after they lost their mother

Last story: if the OP's husband was being honest about inviting the ex-friend to join them out of politeness, he wouldn't be trying to blame OP for leaving. I was thinking I'd find it a light ESH thinking OP would complain about people walking behind on the beach during the photos/wedding. Sure, they're not obliged to stop, but I wouldn't cross a wedding, I'd go around the other way, right? But holy sh*t. No no the ESH didn't have an interesting perspective Firstly that cementer made up the workaholic thing from no where. OP is a nurse (so she has a hard time getting time off than most people), this was her shift (not overtime, her shift if he wants her at thing he should try and get them arranged on days she's off that honestly like claiming someone one the evening shift is a workaholic because they can't go to events exclusively planed in the evening, no that called having a job you can't take time off your shifts willie nillie when you have a job), no one could cover her (the husband even checked too) and she says she always make it to the big events (probably because they have set dates and she can request not to be scheduled those days in advanced). Secondly even if Op was the workaholic that commenter claimed (which again there is little evidence she is) it still does not justify vandalism and kidnapping nor put any of the blame for that vandalism and kidnapping on the OP. and Thirdly the horrible illegal thing is all or part the victims fault because they didn't do exactly what they were told is Abuser 101. I honestly think the ESH commenter might be an abuser too (OP's husband is clearly acting abusive here) given they used straight up abuser logic when justifying their ESH

Story 2: The guy calling ESH is exactly right. OP tacitly acknowledges dismissing the importance of family, both in general and to her husband. She uses common expressions that essentially prove she's got a savior complex. *She* has to work extra shifts, even the one on this date was an extra. Shows how much her co-workers care when her husband reaches out to her "friends" to ask them to cover for her. Calling off a shift or not picking up every extra shift isn't going to tank her career, nor is missing a day for a family event. Husband was entirely in the wrong, but I can at least understand the feeling of needing a drastic measure. He just went the absolute wrong direction with it.
