The depth of Dr. Paul Saladino's knowledge is just flabbergasting. I encourage everyone who is interested in the carnivore diet, or just health in general, to subscribe to his podcast "Fundamental Health". I would also encourage everyone to listen to him, when he was interviewed by Dr. Stephen Gundry on Dr. Gundry's podcast. Dr. Saladino provided a very well articulated defense of the carnivore diet, and he easily put to rest many of the questions that Dr. Gundry had, where Dr. Gundry challenged both the efficacy and safety of the carnivore diet. On that note, another physician who who does a great defense of the carnivore diet is Dr. Shawn Baker. His podcast, "Human Perforrmance Outliers", is also a great podcast.

You guys are speaking to issues I have literally been dwelling on since I moved to Waikiki 3 years ago. The homelessness issue here is absolutely awful mainland states are buying 1-way tickets for homeless folks and sugar coating the allure with moving to Hawaii only that they’re coming to the most expensive state with a horrible drug problem in and of itself so they come here, stay sick and live on the streets. Vulnerable and mentally ill the problem perpetuates. Thank u for addressing this!! This is why I am not only a Therapist BUT an informed functional health coach bc wellness is 💯 dependent on what we eat! During my practicum and internship I told my supervisor that I felt my clients’ meth addiction has something to do more with hormonal balance and diet than “addiction” itself and she totally disbelieved me. The food they were feeding them in treatment also caused immense weight gain which they naturally hated bc their drugs kept them thin (tho incredibly sick). Keep this amazing work up! I know you will!

Dr. Saladino is one of those special people who will dive down the deepest rabbit hole and dig and dig until he has that furry bastard between his teeth. Most people just look at the rabbit hole, then go home to eat Cheetos. Others will walk around the hole a few times on the off chance that Mr. Rabbit will come hopping out into their basket. On it in the past and lost 5 inches off my waist pretty quickly. Felt fab no pain, no tummy issues. I have spinal arthritis ...0 pain. On it again as I am prediabetic. love all the foods, need less to get and stay full longer. Not hungry all damn day like I was on calorie only carb diet. I had a low platelet count of 50000 for the last 15 years. I was ailing - bleeding from the bridge of my nose. I was down the rabbit hole in quest of a cure whilst the doctors prescribed a bone biopsy and a battery of tests. I refused. I was a vegetarian and stumbled on this carnivore diet when I was forced to have it when my sister visited us as the fare was specially prepared for them. I immediately noticed ease in my symptoms. I have begun anew looking out for a girl to be married. In retrospect I wish I knew about the diet earlier. Thanks dr. Mark.

I eat a carnivore diet, I also only eat once a day. I do eat nose to tail and my doctor is yet to find me deficient in any of my vitamins. I have been eating this way for two years now and it is also because of eczema that I started to eat this kind of diet. I had heard that eating a carnivore diet could go a long way in helping control eczema. I had tried everything else and had nothing to lose giving it a try, I also desperately wanted to get off the topical steroids (I was using Clobetasol). A few weeks after starting carnivore diet my eczema started to clear up, I had it all over my body. One area after another started to fade, so I slowly started to reduce the topical steroid and the rash continued to clear up. I am now pretty much rash free, I still get minor flare ups every now and then but they are short lived and minor. Eating a carnivore diet also did something else, it drastically lowered my insulin which in turn lowered my A1C. I went from insulin resistant to insulin sensitive and went from type 2 diabetic to normal. Oh, and I almost forgot, I lost 50 pounds, all that because I wanted to ease my eczema. I too fell down the rabbit hole and still eat a carnivore diet, I still eat once a day two years later. My family doctor was shocked by my results and said it has made him look at things differently. He monitored and documented my whole journey. Here in Canada it was easy to keep him involved because healthcare is covered here. I think there are a lot of people who could use a animal based diet, if North Americans switched to a carnivore diet I guarantee obesity and the health issues associated with obesity would become a thing of the past.

My sister and I are on day 51 of Carnivore WOE no digestive problems. My sister had bad GERD and now that no longer bothers her. She was taking antacids like candy. I have NO bloating and clearer brain function. We both are 67 years old and feel so much better! I've added a veg or fruit on some days to see what I can tolerate.

As a Doctor of Physical Therapy, I have conversations with my patients consistently that traditionally would be covered by MDs in the past. They’re being trained currently to order tests and prescribe medications; I’ve had conversations with general MDs where it becomes evident they know almost nothing about exercise physiology, sleep cycle health, nutrition basics such Krebs cycle. To say the least I’m very happy I deferred going to medical school and went to school where I can not only help people reverse illness but prevent it and increase health.

Everybody who has tried and seen success with some sort of animal based diet is a very valuable case study that needs to be recorded. I don't trust food logs, I don't trust controlled trials (unless they are really long term). What I really know is what I've been going through, how my body signals back to me now that I am eating more animal food with a strong emphasis on fat. Clearly I have some deficiencies, thanks to my previous diet which now I understand seriously lacked essential fatty acids as my body begs for more saturated fat. No study can disprove (or approve) my personal experience.

An observation I have made--and I know I'm not the only one to have observed this--is that when someone is ill, or has some chronic ailment, and they seek to remedy it with diet, they will clean up their diet. That is, they will eat less junk or processed food. Now, whether or not their new diet is carnivore or vegan, they are likely to see an improvement in their health because these people have now become more focused on the quality of the food they put in their mouths. So it is a healthier diet either way. As far as impact is concerned, let's consider the following. It is well documented I think, that fat is very good at storing toxins or toxic elements. Usually when biologists find dead whales on the shore, for example, they will look at what is in the fat stores. When female mothers are breastfeeding, there are certain things they should not consume or put in their bodies as (we are told) the fat in their breastmilk will transfer potentially harmful substances to their child(ren). SO, it stands to reason, that anecdotal evidence of a healthier vegan diet healing chronic illness has a lot of potential AS does a healthier carnivore diet healing chronic illness. Following the point about fat, however, I think there needs to be an even higher focus on the quality of the meat if you are using a carnivore diet to treat an illness because of the potential for toxic elements being stored in the fat of animals.

Ketones are much different than no ketones. Literature shows its a cleaner fuel with less exhaust so to speak. I will always encourage a grain free and low carbohydrate version of *any way of eating* for that reason. Grains have their own special place in "hell". Also it needs to be a well formulated diet of no processed foods additive free. But some people have so much inflammation they've tried everything and are still sick due to a underlying root cause and require healing from the gut. Meat will heal the gut while veggies ferment and gas you up. If it causes discomfort its a no brainer. To hide from predators we should make less smell, not fermenting nasty farts. I will leave it there. Id suggest dr paul Mason's video on lectins. ✌

Also, people differ vastly, and so do their gut microbiomes. What's good for an Inuit doesn't have to be good for a Japanese or a Midwest European. What's good for you doesn't have to be good for the rest of the world. If grains have "their special place in hell", why do many humans express more amylase in the saliva and the gut? Why are so many people perfectly healthy "despite" eating a massive amount of (whole) grains? Because there is no magic bullet.

Where I am from there were bears and wolves, centuries ago, but the time humans had to regularly run from them or compete against them has been over since the taming of fire. And saying "eNd StOp" doesn't make your claim right. Humans express amylase even in their saliva and a much higher amount in the gut than any other primate. Amylase is for digestion of carbohydrates (starch and glycogen). It's an evolutionary adaption to agriculture. But as you seem to be an "expert" of some kind, you surely know that. It's your choice to eat mostly meat, but please, just speak for yourself.

Elimination diet - the gold standard for almost 100 years that I'm aware of. It's common sense logic, regardless of factors too numerous to mention. My father and grandfather were both physicians from 1960 and 1930 respectively. They both used elimination diet to help diagnose patients with food sensitivities. Elimination diet is something we can all agree on and requires little debate. The diet of my youth: Weeknights: Sirloin or tenderloin, small baked potato (a teaspoon sour cream & pat of butter), green leafy salad with tomato, cucumber, avocado, artichokes) with italian dressing. Never any bread on the table. On Sunday, it was pot roast, roast beef, fried chicken, fried or broiled seafood or Mexican food. Takeout wasn't a thing yet. Weekday lunch was either a tuna or peanut butter (no jelly) sandwich or cornbread, greens, and pinto beans. Breakfast was bacon, eggs, and biscuits or oatmeal on weekends. Mostly we skipped breakfast during the week. Fast food was not a factor because we grew up without it. Grocery stores carried only whole foods but instant mashed potatoes (we ate once) and tv dinners (rarely). My parents lived to mid-80s.

Great conversation. I wanted to comment on two points though: (1) Vitamin C - Humans are only one of two animals that exist that do not produce vitamin C and it's been found that animals produce very large amounts of it when sick. I have read this as an argument for supplementing C in large doses (at least when sick). Perhaps something to consider. And (2) we obviously cannot force people to eat in a specific way but we should be concerned when other people eat badly. I think it is clear after COVID, that bad metabolic health impacts us all. Less people would have died and there could have been a much lighter public health approach if there weren't so many metabolically sick people in the midst.

In around 1,5 years of almost a carnivore diet, I said good bye to my gum disease and plaque, and also to hair loss. I always have a feeling of happiness inside me. What s gone worse is my finger pain lately, so I am trying if it is pork. I can t tolerate dairy either. I use honey as well.

Was the milk you tried raw, organic? Reason I say is because the testimonials from others on the raw dairies' websites praise the benefits of raw because they thought they were/were lactose intolerant and casein sensitive. Amazing podcast! I'm on the second viewing and my father (74, looks 50 because of 2 months on a carnivore diet) really has seen his arthritis pain greatly diminish. We were formerly low carb, Bulletproof-style if you will, but the arthritis pain for my father fluctuated greatly, then we also started seeeing these carnivore videos and being Native American...I mean, c'mon, this just makes sense. So excited for the future and hope you give up the salads, Mark. :-) We're from the Santa Barbara area, now near Los Angeles....so sorry for your loss of your home. I've had so many friends, relatives as well...but we strive and keep going. All the best.

I’m reintroducing raw milk as of Monday, so I’ll respond back and see if anything is noticeable. Going off of the old Westen A. Price style of thought, the pasteurization completely destroys the benefit of milk, then it’s reintroduction of supplemental vitamin d3 and the like is not really beneficial from a food quality perspective. I back the idea of raw milk fully, fits in with the carnivore ideal, and gives some carb’s for workouts and training, which I miss. Did the diet switch for auto immune reasons, so I’ve been apprehensive about introducing dairy at all, but from an instinctual sort of theoretical thought, I feel like it should be fine. We’ll see though man, good going getting your day on it as well, I dig hearing stuff like that. Cheers brother!

That lady didn't know what she was talking about, the criticisms she raised were not valid. However, Saladino is a fraud. The narrative that Saladino is trying to put forward is false. In medical school we learn about root cause in every disease in which we have known cause. There is SO MUCH emphasis on prevention of disease through lifestyle factors. I have never met another doctor who didn't think that diet had an impact on health. Lastly, we don't just "treat symptoms". We are taught to cure disease. The most common medications prescribed are disease modifying drugs like statins - not symptom relief drugs. Dr Saladino is a snake oil salesman.

Speaking of the meanings of names, when Mark and Paul were talking about salt, I thought that maybe Saladino means "salt" in Italian, as in "salary" (which comes from when people were paid in salt. But then I looked up the name, and it's an Arabic name that means "mission of faith." BTW, Mark's joke about Sinead O'Connor's name was hilarious!! Great discussion. Thanks!!!

To Mark or Paul, I make my own broth with beef marrow bones but I also use beef feet, which I believe is nearly all collagen, that I boil until soft enough to blend into a cream. Do either of you have thoughts on whether the long term heat to soften to connective tissue ruins it or am I on the right path? Thanks

I know Saladino is a big fan of nose to tail carnivore, and I think he is probably correct, but I don't eat that way because I just don't like liver, brains, tongue, or any other organ meats. I want to question the whole "getting all of your vitamins and nutrients all of the time" way of thinking. Just about everybody wants to discover the perfect human diet. There may be a perfect human diet, but to be healthy, I don't think any animals need to eat that way. In practice, nobody eats this way. Animals are flexible. We can eat a multitude of different foods at different times in different quantities. In practice, this is how we always have eaten for the most part. We all seem to believe that eating in a fashion designed to make sure you get all the vitamins and nutrients is the best way to eat. I'm not sure that is completely true. Humans like all animals don't get a complete nutritional profile of foods every day. We get some nutrition, and other days we get other nutrition. Living organisms have a way of compensating for different nutrient intake I believe. I think our nutritional needs change constantly because of other factors like energy level, time of year, vitamin D, our diet, our state of mind, disease profiles and stress levels. The truth is that we really don't completely understand how the body works; how well it compensates, adjusts, or eliminates need for nutrients. It's possible that eating nothing but rib-eyes, liver, fish, pork dairy or other meats in different combinations or individually can keep up perfectly healthy. The best idea is not to just endlessly discuss academic ideas over and over; the point is just to try to use experience and learn what your body does best on by eating different meats, foods, etc. There are just too many biological variables to really understand what the best primal or meat based diet is best. What's great for some people may not be great for somebody else. Experimentation is the best teacher...

Agreed. Almost all living things are flexible in what they eat. The idea to hit every vitamin and mineral requirement every single day is silly to me. Besides, those RDAs can change and are simply recommendations for what we understand about humans up to this point in time. It's a one size fits all approach, and we know every person is different.

So does this mean I have to stop drinking my red wine and coffee? Neither have seemed to bothered me physically. Frankly, the past 30 years I have had between 8-12 cups of coffee a day (I brewed a weak coffee that most thought was too watery) and would drink it in bed reading a book. No problems sleeping, and if I was in the wilderness for a few days I didn't have withdrawls nor have I ever had jitters. It has always been just a psychological pick up, just smelling it.

The argument is do you get more out of it than you give up by drinking it? If you notice no negatives, and it brings you happiness, then keep drinking it dude. There’s no point in dogmatically cutting it out because you feel like you should; when as you said, you notice no I’ll effects. I cut coffee as I’m pretty sure digestive issues where stemming from it as I had a total comfort habit of it, when I would read, be doing stuff around the house, pre and post workout, etc. I just loved having a cappuccino or some black coffee In my hand, and my god does it go well with some good literature. The health effects I wasn’t exactly into and it was more than a hunch that coffee was the culprit as I consumed it more than anything else In my diet. I would give anything to be able to enjoy coffee again though man, so don’t give it up just because you heard Mark or Paul mention it, remember that you also have to enjoy life.

I’m a nerd in this subject, but am so ambivalent 🤬 Tell me something promising. I’m going thru TSW 11 months off of steroid creams. I just read the book Fiber Fueled by Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, has a masters in Clinical Research. Tell me Something, give me something to hold on to while I go thru this suffering💜💜💜💜 now I’m feeling maybe 60-40 meat to veg, rather than 90-10.

Listening to this a year later and it makes sense for the most part. Only problem I had was that on Carnivore my bowels just shut down. I tried it for several months and this was the result. I added raspberries and now I am pooping every few days. What a relief. When food goes in it has to go out.

How much salt did you add to your food? 5g/day? Did you do keto prior? Some people need potassium too to get over the hump. 5g each a day or MORE. I put it in water as food is not enough. Salt is usually the #1 reason people quit ketosis based diets 🙏✌

My argument has always been there is no single paleo diet, no single phenotype with some people having genes to digest some things better than others. The hadza get 15-20% of their calories from honey, inuits ate almost entirely carnivore with some herbs, chyme and seasonal berries. We also didn't stop evolving with agriculture, but there wasn't one agricultural diet and not everyone has ancestry tracing back thousands of years. People from the northern Mediterranean may have ancestry of people who were making bread for 30,000 years, 20ky before they started actively farming the grains they used to harvest. On the other hand the western steppe herders didn't grow grains but adapted to consume milk, they also eating herbs in soups. So a meat, fish, milk and salad diet. Their ancestors were eastern hunter gatherers (fish and meat diet) and their ancestors were ancient north eurasians (mammoth hunters). So a european could have an ancestry dominated by carnivores or by grain eaters...

Offal is dirt cheap, tons of nutrients. Buying half a cow as ground beef from a meat locker is also dirt cheap. Freeze the majority of it and it can last a year. Or join conservation groups, and participate in training and awareness to become a safe and professional hunter. No excuses.

It seems to me humans of today would be best off eating the foods our bodies are evolved to process. That'd be the foods our ancestors have eaten over the last several hundred thousand years - that's what our bodies are wired for. To vary from that will cause issues. For example, the agricultural revolution arose when our populations exceeded that which could be supported by food derived from animal populations. This has us eating more grains, with deleterious results since we are not evolved to eat grains/grasses. Are animal products the primary food source for humans historically? How much plant/carb/sugar were we eating historically, tens of thousands of years ago?

As someone studying anthropology, I believe that humans would seek out mainly eating meat and pretty much carnivore to be honest. To eat plants, you would be spending as much energy collecting them as you would from eating them, so it wouldn’t really be sustainable, whereas meat, you get one big animal, and you are supplied for a long time. We can also tell by the fact we had about 15% nitrogen 185 levels in bones we have found from archeology that were quite carnivorous. Also fruits only come around once a year and yes they would have eaten some fruit, but fruit is eaten by so many other animals and occurs rarely and needs perfect conditions to grow, that we say we were mostly carnivorous

Gluten abs grains is such a trigger for mental illness. I developed horrible anxiety like felt out of my skin anxiety when I was 28. I went grain free at 31 and by 32 am symptom free. I also had ataxia (can’t walk) and other autoimmune conditions. It was awful. I don’t wish it on anyone. I’m so glad you’re talking about this.

Hoping someone may be able to answer here. We currently have a farm that does grass-fed beef, and other ruminants. They, like so many other, finish on some grains to add some fat to them, "impart flavor, etc.. Any thoughts on this? Would these animals be as good for the carnivore diet as a purely grass fe, or where might you possit that the line is?

Based on what I have read and listened to among the various proponents of the carnivore diet, if you know where your meat comes from, it is from grass fed pastures and you know how it was killed and processed, then the grain part is not perfect but is fine to eat as most cattle are finished that way. Finding and affording grass fed, grass finished beef is beyond the pocket book of a lot of people and I think it is better to eat the best you can afford rather than not eating the proper diet because you can't afford the best.

Can buy grass fed with grain-finished now and this will help do an elimination diet to jump start us. WE are currently Primal/Fat Adapted/Keto. Will be a fun experiment!

@@minimalistvagabonds1597 hello, my uderstanding the last month of grain fed nearly reverses the omega3 to 6 profile of the meat. So you'll pay a premium for something you're not necessarily getting. But as stated above, knowing where your food comes from is important too but it should never be a reason not to start. Id just take the money and put it in grass fed and finishes if investing in that. I personally cant afford it so haven't started and Im ok :)

This world of nutrition is so confusing. How does someone heal from illness following the carnivore diet where another heals from plant based? It must stem from the micro-biome, it must. Having certain strains of bacteria in your gut that allow you to process and breakdown certain foods resulting in no inflamation, where that same exact food can cause a reaction in another person who maybe doesn't have that type of bacteria to help break it down. These dietary protocols restrict the variety of foods that are coming in, possibly lowering the chance of triggering inflamation in the individual. What if rather then restricting our eating and going on this diet or that diet, we ate more varieties of fermented foods that actually increase our micro-biome diversity. Exercise, getting in the garden and fermenting foods seem to be some of the ways that I know of increasing the diversity of the micro-biome. I fucking hate jumping from this video to that, one person saying this diet is better than that diet. It doesn't make sense. The only thing that keeps coming back to my mind is learning about the micro-biome from the book "Brain maker" Trying to piece it all together is a fucking nightmare but honestly, i'd rather fucken die then have to only eat meat or only eat vegies. If you got this far let me know what you think about it all.

Carnivore makes sense to me after believing into plant based, and government recommendations. Ive reeducated myself by actually reading the studies on both side of the argument..carnivore makes way more sense. I've done keto 3 years come December and fiber ferments around only 5% and is in the colon, where short chained fatty acids wont be utilized and is there for water balance mostly. There's evidence symptoms worsen with fiber. I eat 5-10g of carbs with low fiber.. Im convinced I would be ok without it, many meals I do. Ketosis is what really matters. Its efficient and heals. Go there and maybe you'll find your answer too as you can be anywhere on the spectrum. Most people have a condition they're searching to fix and will get some part of the way on keto and will jump into the next step to see what more improvements they'll get. Id recommend trying it for 3.months minimum. Keep your veggies and meat. Do you have weight to lose or any issues to address? Have you changed anything since posting this? Cheers ✌

I eat 90% meat, eggs raw dairy , Raw kefir, Raw cream and cheeses, I eat some sweet potato and avocados and honey, water, tea, coffee now and then and I'm thriving. I swallow chopped up raw organs now and then too. I eat fruit occasionally but I find that when I haven't eaten fruit in a while I find It to be as sweet as eating chocolate from the store and consequently my body immediately tells me that is is not to be eaten in high consumption it's just sugar. I don't really eat much else, now and then I eat oats which I know isn't particularly human food but I use it when I'm low on money and I add raw milk and collagen. That's it. I go to the toilet every morning without fail , nice firm solid brown digested stool. Occasionally I may have a paler yellow stool which in my estimation is from undigested fat from over consumption. Game in the wild is learner and we would not have had a gigantic fat intake naturally.

When talking about the "long-term" effects of carnivore (& only eating muscle meat), you should look to Joe and Charlene Anderson, who have been 20+ years Carnivore, only eating steaks. There are many others in the Carnivore 'world', who are 10+ year veterans.

I've listen to many carnivore pod casts. One thing I appreciate is Mark does believe in vegtables. Primal is based on evolution. If you are a person who believes in creation and you study the account of Genesis , God says in gen.1:29&30 He gives man and women, who he planted barefoot in a garden every seed-bearing plant, and seed-bearing tree to serve as food. To the animal, green vegetation to serve as food. So the first 1,500 yrs was vegan. When God caused the flood, after it was over, he gave meat to eat for mankind. gen.9:3., " every moving animal that is alive, will serve as food. It's all the grains, sugar, processed foods veg. oils, pollution , non movement....etc. Real food, meat and veggies, some fruit. I believe just eating one food is not healthful you can't get everything from just an animal.

Noah knew clean from unclean animals. He took 7 pairs of clean animals and only one pair of unclean animals on the ark. After the flood, when God said every animal was good for food, Noah understood it to mean every clean animal. Later, Moses recorded God's dietary laws. They are in Leviticus 11. Basically scavengers -- animals that eat waste, garbage and dead things -- are unclean. The method of digestion matters. Land animals with a split hoof that chew the cud are clean. Pigs aren't. Ocean animals must have fins and gills. Such fish are clean. Shrimp and lobster aren't. I trust God in knowing what is good for us, his creation, to eat.

Keto helped SOME with my life-long depression. I am talking soul-crushing-don't-want-to-be-alive depression. I learned how to fake 'happy' because no one wants to be around a depressed person. I preferred to isolate myself rather than pretend. Carnivore for 7 weeks. My smiles and laughter are genuine. I am happy...truly happy for the first time in my life. I have been experimenting a little this past week with different foods like leafy greens to see if those are agreeable to my mental health or not. I have read studies that show the negative effects are immediate. I don't want to stay carnivore as I really enjoyed veg and the occasional (very rare) keto treat. However, I would be willing to sacrifice those things if it meant life-long happiness.

@@milabulic i see , i see... well that's great! me neither, i suffered a lot but i always self helped... never went to shrink either. Nor do i believe in religion. i guess music and a bit of raving helped back in the day , MDMA was very therapeutic for me, and helped immensivley, and i also microcdose on thc. but not always , on&off. I used to get slighlty paranoid with anxiety / panic attacks sometimes, but thats why i started microdosing, it helps to "confront" each and every "reason" behind the paranoias...and slowly they go.. its all about analysing/externalising/aknlowledging and getting used to different perspectives. Have a great rest of w.end ,ciao :) ps: that's not "ciao" in a posh way...lol..i'm just italian ..hehe

One of the longest living population is in Georgia Armenia and these folks eat meat yogurt vegies and most delicious breads.Why are they living longer.I think because food they consume are chemicals free are organic and they are active.Being sedative even on best diet will cause health issues. WE are not made to sit and watch 8hrs of tv. MY point is look at longest living populations and see what they eat.I bet 100% they don't eat animal diet alone.
