Excellent point! Why do so many people want to eat as much as possible???? Thank you Mark! My experience has been so much like yours. Your advise fits me like a glove. I am in great shape at 65 years old after years of gymnastics, running, arthritis.....

Personally, i don't eat a lot of protein (unless you juice on PEDs). i keep linoleic acid low and SFA high to prevent hunger and i do a lot of IFs and train fasted. -Meat based KD sprinter

Keto with regular fasting has transformed my health. Im also stronger. Aching, and injured joints have healed, and the pullups, pushups, and squats have returned, along with added lean muscle mass. No fruits, grains. Just meat, leafy greens, croiciforuous vegetables.

My elderly friend is a keto adapted, fasted sprinter trying to train for the marathon with me as well. a FMD cycle let them sprint again, which in turn eliminated their joint pain, we're still dealing with visceral fat from their job (we had to get rid of metformin to encourage muscle growth). but overall they are doing great with lipo resveratrol, Apigenin. and caffeine supplemented with Theanine in a fairly low protein, but high SFA and strict 20:4 IF approach. - Meat based KD sprinter

I wish I could follow this. Been eating fast food everyday past year. I do fast(Kinda) but very hard to care with major depression. Should I exercise? Fast? Eat healthy? All 3? Hard to get out of bed some mornings. Where do I start...
@marksdailyapple
@marksdailyapple Жыл бұрын
I'd start by cooking your own meals, sticking to mostly whole foods. Cut out the junk food (fast food, candy, chips, soda, etc.). Don't worry about any particular macros or fasting. Get outside and be active in any way even if it's just walking. Being outside kills 2 birds with 1 stone because the natural light will be good for your mental health. Start there.

100% carnivore has ended sever depression for so many people. But keto may also do this for you. That where I would start and it’s what I’m doing for my mood problems. Plus electrolytes. And when I need it, some cannabis.

That will deplete your Vitamin D levels AND kill off healthy gut bacteria which have a direct influence on mood, state of mind, and mental health. Along with the great advice by the other posts, consider getting on a high-dose Vitamin D3 WITH K2 (MK7) supplement, probiotics (via supplement, or a good no-sugar, full-fat kefir), and Cod Liver Oil or high-quality fish oil. You will be shocked at the positive impact it will have on you in a matter of a couple of weeks and beyond. Fast food every day is *absolutely* a depressant.

A totally amazing hypnosis Mark that i'm 100% in agreement with. I have journeyed from 64 year old guy 290Lb always sick, Metabolic syndrome and feeling unwell to a 66 year old 190lb lean guy by way Keto and intermittent fasting and resistant training and full of energy. BUT, I don't hold myself to those principle's as tightly as I once did now I'm at my desired weight and optimal health . Like Mark, I am flexible and now eat when I'm hungry and drink when I'm thirsty. I still do Low Carb but if I want some berries nuts and cream I will have some, if i I want some pasta I will but limited and not very often. Last year I spent two glorious weeks in Sardinia (see attached photo) eating wonderful food and wines. Came home to the UK only 4 Lb heavier which I lost in a week on carnivore and OMAD now back to my desired weight . It all comes down to this one question."HOW HEALTHY DO YOU WANT TO BE BEFORE YOU DIE!" once you know the answer then you can plan the rest of your life

When Mark talks about getting away with less calories, he forgets to mention that he is (admittedly) on TRT, testosterone and other hormone replacements, when you are on steroids you can get away with a lot of staff, for a natural lean, not overweight person, that is not on TRT, consistently undreamt calories, you will lose muscle you will never gain back, especially if you are over 50, so I think little context is warranted when you are on steroids... just something to think about
@marksdailyapple
@marksdailyapple Жыл бұрын
I think this a fair point. Brad is not on TRT and still chasing some ambitious athletic goals, and I think that's one of the reasons he is challenging Mark on his ideas around metabolic efficiency and any kind of fasting and embraced a higher calorie, higher carb, higher protein approach.

@@marksdailyapple You should get Doctor Mike Israel on the podcast, he is an expert with natural and pharmacology supported athletes, he will shed a light as to why when you under eat as a natural you are heading into disaster in terms of keeping muscle and performance, especially as you age
@PrimalPetersen
@PrimalPetersen Жыл бұрын
Essential to remember that trt is for getting testosterone back to the healthy normal range. Assuming Mark is doing this (and by looks of it he is), then he is not getting some unfair advantage compared to someone who is naturally in that healthy normal range of testosterone.

@@PrimalPetersen He is also on growth hormone he did a podcast on it, I have no issue with that by the way and at his age likely do the same, but under eating calories for naturals on consistent basis, will lead to muscle loss that is just reality and it is what it is

Yes, there's a amino acid pool, it's why people tell you not to eat protein in a fast, since MTOR uses the amino acid pool as a sensor (carbs and insulin and excessive caffeine act via the PKA pathway).-Meat based KD sprinter.

reduction in calories implies a reduction in metabolic rate...this gives the signal of scarcity, and will result in shutting down on metabolic processes...lower calorie intake also reduces the nutrient intake...better to raise you metabolic rate and be able to burn everything you eat....constant fasting and calorie reduction is a recipe for failure and malnutrition....

My friends ALWAYS make fun of my diet. They tell me I dat like a squirrel. I respond by saying: "I eat like a squirrel because most of the Western American diet/food is poison!" I forage like a squirrel throughout the day. Lots of nuts, some fruit and veggies, but absolutely NO PROCESSED FOOD! I also ride my bike every chance i get and I go for walks everyday. That regime works perfectly for me.
