I’m ending my first year of KETO next month. I’m 67 male, and went from 212 to 165 in 6 months. I had 4 or 5 72 hours fasts in that time. That can be done fairly easily if you get fat adapted. While losing that weight, I don’t recall ever getting hungry. I watched a ton of videos for my education and now I’m confident that this will be my lifestyle from now on. My family doc wanted me on statins since my total cholesterol is 310, and LDL is 217. She totally ignores my A1C of 4.8, HDL of 76, Triglycerides of 73. I feel like I’m 30 again. I have energy to walk miles a day, ride a bike, do whatever. No joint problems, better sleep. I never restricted calories, so this is all quite sustainable for years. Also I had started to develop a strange acne on my forehead and severely cracked heals. Both of those conditions were gone in 6 months. I’m convinced that by limiting carbs to less that 100, never using seed oils, and never eating high fructose corn syrup would make millions of Americans live healthier lives. It only took a year to figure it out, I wish I knew all this 40 yrs ago. I think we’ve been deceived by CDC, FDA, AMA, ADA, Big Pharma, Big Agriculture. Just look at American rates of obesity, diabetes and heart disease. It’s only been since the standard American diet recommendations was implemented that these conditions have increased. Now, increasingly it seems that we have a new Diabetes Type 3, and it’s called Alzheimer’s. Just eat single ingredient Whole Foods.

For me losing weight is not a problem because I am TOFI. I messed up my metabolism to the point if I didn't get something to eat I would get anxious and upset. So what happened was I heard about the primal blue print and read most of it and quit eating bread, pasta, rice, and sweets and within a week I lost the desire to binge on milk chocolate, for example or by candy. I felt great. I hardly drank any type of softdrinks and preferred water or coffee, tea, without sugar. I am a good cook and can prepare almost anything. So I was eating meat and vegetables cooked in butter, ghee or lard. At first my face changed and got lean. I was obviously burning subcutaneous fat throughout my body. I even ran my first marathon at 52 only drinking water. I am fat adapted. I made the switch. I have metabolic flexibility. I have added rice occasionally back to my diet, and sometimes butter croissants. But generally I don't eat carbs for breakfast lunch or dinner, except for the little amount in veggies. I eat dark chocolate, prefer 85 percent and I really want to get back and be stricter because I have been cutting loose and enjoying life but I feel good. I can automatically switch back because my body did the reset. Before it was a disaster. I think I was borderline diabetic. The doctor did ask me once if I liked sweets and I was a bit shocked and my inner warning mechanism went on high alert. I didn't want to become a diabetic. I switched and all blood numbers improved to the point I educated my doctor on cholesterol. My LDL is high but HDL went up to 60 triglycerides 89. Sorry doc, LDL is high but the LDL particles need to be further broken down. And since the other numbers are excellent I won't buy the statin BS. Anyway, I do my homework and I try to avoid doctors. I feel great. I hardly get sick. And I like to have fun. The reset is worth doing if you get blood sugar crashes and feel like crap. I can go all day without eating and be feel hungry and I don't worry at all. It's a good feeling.

Yeah, I lost about 60 - 65 lbs in one year eating primal (roughly). And that was about 10 years ago. Haven’t had an issue maintaining my weight since then and I don’t even really work out. I do recently have high LDL cholesterol, so might have to dial back some of my saturated fat (if I find out my LDL particles are also high) and see what happens, but definitely an effective lifestyle 👍

Mark, I greatly appreciate your succinct and highly informative videos. Question: Is your food pyramid organized by calorie intake? If no, what would it look like if it were?
@marksdailyapple
@marksdailyapple 4 жыл бұрын
No it's really organized on volume of foods consumed. Calorically, most calories should come from fat - mostly from whole food (ideally nose-to-tail) animal sources, but also things like nuts and seeds, avocados, coconuts. These animal foods will vary in the amount of fat energy they contain, but they also provide structure - both "muscle" protein and collagen protein. Plant foods might be voluminous, but provide a relatively small amount of caloric needs. Carbohydrate intake from plant foods scales with activity level and overall goals/preferences (we advise anywhere from keto levels up to 150ish grams per day).

@@Chris-bn5pe even that is true 😂 but even you remember that the paleo man wasn't always eating too much fruits, the summer was the only moment of the year where were a good choice of fruits and the fruits were different, with less sugar but most importantly with much more nutrients and vitamins than the actuals. Fruits are important but don't eat a lot of they like a vegan for example. Even they in some health issuees that need to be fix, is better if they are eliminated temporary for a certain time. The speech is a bit different for others fruits like olive, avocado, cacao (the original cacao without sugar added, not the chocolate like all people immediately think 😂) and coconut. P. S. : i don't have anything versus fruits, i love them but all people doesn't have to exaggerate with the actual fruits of this era, they are a great food but are very different from their ancient plant. 1-2 portion (maybe 3 in some people) at day are enough. For sure our body can tollerate much much much more better fruits than cheese.

Hello! I bought the keto reset book in February of 2018 and started my keto lifestyle! I chose keto partly because my glucose levels were prediabetic and that scared me. I lost over 40 pounds and I felt great! (high energy, clarity and confidence) I share your book with whoever asks me about my success with keto. Now I have a question. I recently donated blood and my cholesterol has gotten pretty high. Since starting keto, I had bloodwork done every six months to monitor my glucose and those numbers did drop. But my cholesterol has steadily increased. I am 53 and menopausal and that may account for some of the increase but I a worried that I will have to stop doing keto in order to get my cholesterol down. What can I do?

kmanjt Well, I know what you mean by that lol and I for one am not a Vegan. In fact I eat Paleo (and I’m experimenting with restricting carbs) right now. (so I’m not trying to promote Vegan propaganda haha) Having said that I wouldn’t write this video off too quickly. I personally keep an open ear to science and what people are progressively learning from various dietary camps. This video was very interesting for many reasons and they seemed to back up everything they said with science and studies. I would definitely recommend you give it a listen if you eat Keto or are exploring it because they said some things that are very important to know. For example they talked about how excess fat actually can onset diabetes long term and especially in people who already have low body fat! Now I’m still researching what they said about that to confirm but if that’s the case then it would definitely be crucial knowledge to have! Anyways, if you or anyone reading this watches the video I would love to know what your thoughts are about it!

I’m 6’ and dropped from 198 to 152 in 3 weeks, my doctors panicked and made me quit keto. I felt like a million bucks, mentally and physically, but even eating 5000+ calories per day without exercising, I was still losing 2-4 pounds a day. I have a question, If the majority of your daily calorie intake is fat, where do you get 75% of the fat? You have to eat butter and olive oil?. This seems not natural, where are you gonna get 75% of fat living primitively?
@kcernest
@kcernest 4 жыл бұрын
Animal fat. Where do you think primitive people got their fat? They ate the entire animal, not just lean muscle cuts. Vegetable oils are not the answer, they are a cheap waste product pushed by the food manufacturing industry that makes billions off them. Not much profit in eating an untrimmed steak, farm to table.

I've done Keto first so trying to stick to Paleo now is a bit unreal when I think about all the potatoes and fruit I'm consuming. My experience on Keto was amazing. I weighed 215 before Keto; a little under 3 months into it, my weight was 169lbs. I personally like Keto but my wife hates the thought of it and won't even try it even if it was life or death. So Paleo makes it easier for my entire family, adding that my wife wants to lean to Paleo now (even though she thinks cheat days with popcorn and cookies are ok, but whatever that's none of my business). I think I would use both ways of eating as tools. I would use Keto when I want to cut weight and really reset my body and hormones (because men have them too), while on the other hand I'll use Paleo to maintain my body and keep those hormones at healthy levels. Just my perspective.
