PACAYA VOLCANO, GUATEMALA - Today we’re hiking up Pacaya Volcano in Guatemala to go eat the world’s only volcano pizza!
For the last 5 - 6 years David Garcia has perfected his art of making pizza not just on a volcano, but in a volcano. When he started the Pacaya Volcano was spewing lava and he was able to cook pizza in the actual lava. However, volcanoes change and are unpredictable, so at the moment there’s on lava flow, but just steam, so instead of cooking in the lava, he’s built a pizza oven in the lava rocks, builds a small fire to get more heat, but still cooks within the volcano.
I ordered everything on our pizza, with six different types of cheese. He also included parma ham, salami, pepperoni and peppers, as well as spicy chili sauce which was a highlight for me.
The pizza turned out fantastic, evenly cooked, and with a golden brown crust.
It’s such an amazing experience eating pizza cooked in a volcano with the view of the volcano and the surrounding volcanoes. Absolutely highly recommended!

I went to Pacaya earlier this year, the pizza was delicious. You can reserve a smaller pizza as well if you go by yourself. I highly recommend it! I contemplated and appreciated the view, the same view that my ancestors saw.

This is so surreal, I remember climbing the active lava erupting Pacaya in the mid 90’s, with armed security all around us, as it was highly unsafe back then, almost daily robberies and attacks on the slopes. I did this! Though I admit I rode the horse up 🙈 It was actually the first time I ever rode a horse in my life, and I did it riding up a volcano! I didn't know about cooking the pizza at the top, that sounds amazing, but they did encourage us to bring marshmallows along and we did get to toast come marshmallows over the lava. It's so beautiful in Guatemala, definitely go if you ever get the chance!! ❤🇬🇹

Mark, I must say you are one heck of a man you are blessed by going to all these places and I want to say your son Mika he will never forget what you’ve done with him you and your wife taking him all over the world when he gets older he’s gonna he’s so well-rounded he is going to be so very well-rounded. What I love about Mark is that he's not afraid to get down and dirty, right to the most remote area to show us the best food of that country. All this while compiling his experiences into videos of the highest quality-- good shot, good audio, everything! As a Hard of Hearing fan, I really appreciate this side of him. A lot of content creators pushed quantity over quality, with crapy audio drowned by the background people talking in foodcourts. It gets old after a while. Thank you so much Mark for taking us on the food tours, to places where I know I would never be able to go, but learning to appreciate even at this age.

Wanted to visit those places, but 17 years ago had a heart attack and did not recover as normal after that always had to take myself, but during my student life in Europe and Canada, I traveled to 23 countries from 1974 to 2001. At that time no KZbin or FB, but only pictures were taken and some videos were taken with Sony movie cameras. Nowadays it is so easy to travel and get info via the internet, KZbin, FB, and other social media, etc. I watch most of the video of Mark and enjoy the cuisines of other cultures and ways of life. I have good ideas about central and south America and most of the countries in the world, because students from 80 countries studied at our university and we lived with them in the hostels.

As soon as you said volcano pizza i knew you're in Guatemala. I was there last summer and it's so beautiful. We didn't do volcano pizza though but we did a bunch of other things in Antigua, Lake Atitlan and Chichicastenango. Gosh I miss it there so much!
