🎥Russian Food Tour of Moscow: • Ultimate Russian Food ...
👕T-shirts and caps: migrationology...
Thank you to Sergey from Real Russia ( / realrussiablog ) for taking us on this Soviet Union / Russian Food tour of Saint Petersburg, Russia. It was an amazing day. #Russia #RussianFood #SaintPetersburg
Pyshechnaya - This is one of the most legendary places to eat donuts in all of Russia. And they’ve preserved their style, recipe, and even price from the Soviet Union period. At first I thought just a couple of these Soviet donuts would be fine, but Sergey reassured me we needed a plate of them. He was right, they are easily the world’s most addictive donuts. And they only cost $0.23 per donut. Must visit when you’re in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
Café Singer - House of the Books - Next since we were in the area, we went to Café Singer, a legendary cafe and restaurant. We mainly went to see the heritage and view. Food and coffee were alright, not the best.
Kvartirka - Soviet Restaurant - This was probably the best meal of the day. Kvartirka is again a Soviet / Russian restaurant set up like a house, and serving a mix of dishes popular during the Soviet Union period. I tried the borscht and the Chicken Kiev both of which were quite delicious and homely. An amazing meal and nice environment.
Stolovaya № 1 - Soviet Canteen - Finally to finish this Soviet Union food tour of Saint Petersburg, Russia, we ate at one of the cheapest meal options in the city - a Soviet style canteen. You walk through the line, choose the dishes you want, and pay for what you eat. It was a good experience, and delicious food. Total price - 229 RUB ($3.59)
Again, a huge thank you to Sergey from Real Russia ( / realrussiablog ) for taking me on this food tour!

What an incredible guest! Mark you are a born diplomat. I've spent weeks in St. Petersburg and you've got to "roll with it." It can be romantic, charming or terribly depressing. @Fili_rami Nah, never cared to look into details, one thing is sure - there is no siluch thing as fair competition among big companies in Russia, as then it becomes a question of connections to those in power. If you are too small to be of an interest to bandits in high positions, only then it's more or less normal business, but even then you are a subject for extortion by so called "controlling authorities" (there are almost 40 of those in Riussia, and each wants it's share). Particular company I ment is "Miratorg", now I checked, it's not a monopoly really, not yet, they are the largest only in meat market; thing is - they got state subsidies and credits on extremely favorable conditions, that others can only dream of.

@Jessica Munich Russia always was a multicultural country. And you're sound like s racist. Just saying 😉
@MrSpamaccount
@MrSpamaccount 4 жыл бұрын
@Jessica Munich it's more of a corrupt scheme, when migrant is paid 1/3 of locals' salary, and 2/3 goes to employer. This allows to hire up to 3 migrants for same salary, while putting the difference into employers pocket. Employer in this case is a person hired by municipal officials and salaries are provided from city budget. Any case of corruption is parried by - do you want 1937 to repeat? Thus criminals are not punished, unless they are common folk, and genius mr.placeholder Medvedev decriminalized economic crimes, which makes corruption almost legal.

I think it needs clarifying that while there was a corporate building for Singer in St Petersburg, Russia had nothing to do with the invention or development of Singer machines. The building was built in 1904, but Singer was founded in 1850-1853 in Boston and then New York. By 1904 it was a worldwide company which dominated the sewing machine market.
