Okay today I’ve got a Patreon request to cover Chavo Guerrero in WWE. But plot twist it’s his time as Kerwin White. Basically Chavo went through a gimmick change and he was no a white middle class American man. Sounds whacky! He just feuded with Shelton Benjamin for pretty much no reason. Let’s find out if this gimmick is as bad as the narrative over the years has told us!
To view Diva Search 2005, Sid in ECW, Raquel Brikked, Brock Lesnar in New Japan and exclusive interviews:

This was a time when Chapelle's show was still in the popular zeitgeist. As fucking whacky as this gimmick is, it reflected pop culture of the time really well. And Chavo, pro as he is, gave it his all. Alternatively I also really liked the Star Dust character despite Cody seeming to not like it. That was when I became a real fan of his, honestly, cuz he took that shit sandwhich and did his all with it and made it something. His run with his brother for the tag belts was really good.

Kerwin White *could* have been interesting. Comes off as a man who has internalised so much negative stereotyping about his ethnicity & culture that he rejects it completely. Long term you'd look to have him reconnect with and fully embrace his cultural heritage. Maybe some funny angles with Eddie trying to 'deprogram' him, 'forcing' him to consume Latino food & media.
@HWJASURY
@HWJASURY Жыл бұрын
It's interesting seeing how things would transpire post Kerwin White. Chavo would have a few more matches with Shelton on Raw, but by then he was Chavo again and Shelton was a heel so the roles were reversed. One of those matches was when Chavo "retired" after he lost an IC title match. In addition to that, Chavo and Dolph would reunite at one point in 2011 as a tag team of sorts back when Dolph was closely associated with Vickie Guerrero. And I remember they alluded to their past teaming when Chavo was Kerwin White on at least one episode of WWE Superstars.

I remember hating Kerwin White as a kid, now I find the gimmick absolutely hilarious, not every gimmick should have great competitive matches, Kerwin White was supposed to be a little lame, in spite of Chavo being a very talented in-ring athlete, it's weird how in 2005-6 WWE were clearly trying to do SOMETHING with Chavo because he got a lot of heat for both this gimmick and his feud with Rey Mysterio (which was awesome), yet in 2007 they jobbed him out to freaking Hornswoggle...
