In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we give some information about our pet dog MARLEY the Sailing Whippet. We have been sailing offshore for 2 years now and have lived on our boat for 3 with our dog.
We are often asked many questions about Marley and hopefully this answers the difficult ones like, Where does he wee and poo? Doesn't that dog need lots of exercise? Why is he so skinny?
We take you through a bit of day in the life of Marley and what we do to keep him happy and safe whilst we are sailing. It is a big decision to sail offshore and visit other countries with your dog or pet and we plan to break down the information and inform you more about our choices and why we brought Marley along for the ride!
With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea and Indonesia and finally arrived to the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the next big adventure. The work is now complete and off we go to Thailand on our way to Indonesia.
We departed Australia in July 2017 and have since explored some amazing countries, met some beautiful people and experienced so many different and diverse cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! The adventure is just beginning as we sail West with the trades around the World! Indian Ocean here we come!!

We have pyrs, they bark at a change of wind speed, they are very fluffy, they cast off fluff every day of every year, their property is whatever they can see. Love following Capt Marley's adventures with his two human crew.

I had Alfie the Whippet, wonderful dog. She lived 15 wonderful years. She took the best most comfortable chair in the house and made it her own. If you sat in it, she would stare at you. They kill rabbits, behead them actually. She cleared our garden of rabbits .Loved this video.

Well done guys. When I sailed with my dog Obie 40 years ago I used one of those fake grass door mats for the poo spot. Put a grommet in one corner and tied a line to it. Once business was complete chuck it overboard and let it rinse...viola! Love watching you guy...brings back great memories......keeping it coming Cheers

All three of you are water dogs! Great fun watching all the playfulness. Glad you are being cautious of other animals. Marley is really, really fast so might be able to get away from most hostiles. No sense taking a chance though with such a wonderful pal.

Thanks for the heads up on your Whippet Marley. I too have a whippet called Alfie 2.5 yrs old, one of my true great pleasures of my life. In the next 5 to 6 years I will retire and wish to cruise the world, but my biggest concern is I don’t want to leave Alfie behind. So seeing your video does give me some reassurance. It may sound Stupid to let a dog stop you from doing what you want to do but that is how much I love my little mate. He sleeps in my bed under the covers and he is like a hot water bottle during the cold Melbourne winter, he pushes right up against your skin imparting warmth body heat, it is great. I have been taking him and my sisters 6 yr old border collie on my 7.3m trailer fishing boat ( called “Sea Hound” of coarse ) and Alfie has been handeling the experience better than the border collie. So I’ll keep on taking him out and see how he adapts and handles the experience. Good luck and Fair sailing to the three or you. Regards David Attridge.

Once again congratulations on the new improved boat that you guys work so hard to get you guys did an awesome job just like I told you in previous and we love your dog my long haired German Shepherd did not like the water at all and now heck I got to keep a life jacket on him 24/7 and close the gate cuz he's always jumping in the water I think he's got scuba diver in it's so nice to see when they get in the water and tire out so fast heck I think I heard him snoring this weekend cuz we went on the beach and ran and played tennis ball he was exhausted he does not know your girl looks awesome bro you're a lucky man peace Vegas bill
