In this episode of Sailing Nandji, with Old Smoky now a thing of the past, it is time to get busy into the installation of our new engine Fang! Old smoky may be gone, but she left us with quite the mess to clean up. As we had been concentrating so hard on reaching Langkawi, cleaning the bilge turned into a job that was forgotten and with Old Smoky now gone, the oil and grease remains. Along comes Bilgy Bonita!
We are a young couple with a dog, who with no sailing experience, bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We have just sailed 2000nm through Indonesia and have arrived to Malaysia to complete major boat work, ready for the next big adventure. We departed Australia 18 months ago and have since explored some amazing countries, met some beautiful people and experienced different cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! The adventure is just beginning as we sail West with the trades!

hey guys, great job on the new motor! next time instead of laundry detergent, use spray on oven cleaner! it does all the scrubbing, then you simply hose it off! I've used it on several engine rebuilds. leaves it ready for paint in usually one application.

ok....... finally jumped into the Patreon game........ I subscribe to 29 different sailing channels... but you are my pick to help out. Out of all the disposable rubber gloves I've used, the black Nitrile ones have been the best. I've actually reused them up to 4 times. They're the only ones that can tolerate acetone.

We give our dog a pill called bravecto. It's a little chewy treat you give them once every three months and it prevents him from getting ticks and fleas. It works really well for him

Fairy dishwashing soap is great for removing grease and might have helped the bilge cleanup go faster. But what an amazing job you did, Bonita!! doing all that work and still working out!! 5 minutes of your workout would require a full day of "The Marley Workout" to me recover! I know I'm just a viewer/subscriber/Patron but I am incredibly proud of you two. You have come so far, done so much, overcome so much, yet remain so cheerful, upbeat, and genuinely happy. Hi Guys - Great video as usual. One suggestion is to check out Effitix for tick control with Marley. It's a once per month treatment that you squirt on your dog's back. I have two dogs and live in a tick infested area and since using this, they have not had a single tick. Check it out.

You could have used kitty litter down in those holes to soak up oil and liquids then shovel it out or vacuum it out.

Well it's to late now but maybe future references, dawn dish soap works great cleaning oil and grease. Scrubbed the tugboat engine room floor with it all the time. ⛵⚓🐶♥️

We used that or lemon joy on comercial fishing boats on the Bering sea. They work great. Spray on foaming Napa engine cleaner helps too.

Great to see as always. Good you don't want to touch the greasey mess.. Used engine oil is highly toxic. But you did it. You guys are troopers you just make do and get it done true blue style. What a Woman -ay! OMG YES! And as usual i am reminded to do some stretches and jumps, instead of doing the Marley!

Dawn dish soap works really well for breaking up grease and oil. I use it to wash down engine parts all the time. People give me dirty looks but it works really well and it's non-toxic. A lot of degreasers are worse for the environment than petroleum.

Poor Bonita, All that scrubbing! dish soap or even shampoo are designed to cut grease and would have worked better. You two are awesome! Thanks for your video's

I used Laundry detergent because the texture is great for scrubbing and it also absorbed the grease as well so I was able to scrub the grease into it and remove it. Worked a treat!

pinesol is great for bilge cleaning - gets rid of diesel smell and grease .

If you have any copper pipe going in near any sort of cement, remember that cement will destroy copper if they even just touch each other. I learned this by mistake.

@@FrothLyfeSailingNandji Then you are good. My old Canadian off shore fishing boat was full of it, all mixed up with lead scrap. Just remember that many unsimilar metals when exposed to salt water can destroy each other, mainly aluminium touching copper, bronze etc. it's very important.

I had a real tick problem after a few abnormally warm winters I’m in town so quite odd and it sucked in my room booming would work any I started using bravecto chews pill vet supplied maybe online but have seen one sense👍👍

Bravecta is the best flea and tick treatment. Each dose lasts 3 to 6 months. Really good stuff

J.W.D. (Job Well Done!) Bloody good job on the bilge Bon'. Ahh, glassing, I am staying on my boat on the Hard in a shipyard (Gladstone Qld) have just ripped all the aft deck up (aft of the cabin) with dry rot, replacing all the beams with Hardwood etc. Man, I don't know what is itching the worst, glass fibres or the bloody midgies! Nandji is looking good!😀

You can put in a stainless shaft, but a straight iron shaft way more reliable and lasts way longer. An old sailor saying. " stainless is half as good as it looks and galvanized and iron is twice as good as it looks."

I tried the Seresta collar made my dogs sick. I have 3 dogs and I came to find out that It happens to some dogs. Hope Marley does good with it. best of luck

thats terrible, sorry to hear! We opted for the Collar because some dogs have bad reactions to the tablets so its sad to hear dogs have had bad reactions to the collar as well. I think certain breeds can be affected more to certain things, the tablets boarder collies have bad reactions with etc. Marley seems normal and hasn't been sick at all but certainly something to remember. Hope your furbabys are ok!
