Im sorry but you made a mistake about the stock factory adjustable rear site. You said its adjustable for windage but it is designed for the distance of projectile, NOT for WINDAGE. Bullet drop, not left and right .

Yes you are correct, I misspoke and said "windage" instead of elevation. The funny thing is that this video has been up for eight years and you are the first person to point that out, and as we all know "the internet" is generally pretty quick to point out any mistakes one makes. There is a video on KZbin somewhere where windage adjustment can be made by tapping the rear sight with a soft mallet within the dovetail groove. It doesn't take much to adjust it.

The thunderbolts are a very underrated round imo. They often group well and cycle my ruger 10\22 and also perform great out of my bolt marlin xt22tsr. Aside from the one under powered round your group was one of your best on this day

I own one... have had it for about 16 years. I love it. It is absolutely accurate and never misfeeds unless I have subsonic rounds - which is likely because I rarely clean this gun adequately. I just put a picatinny rail and a fantastic Simmons Scope (over 150 4.8/5 reviews). Can't wait to sight it in for this scope.

I am also guilty of not cleaning 22 semis as often as I should, I generally shoot them until they start to malfunction, then I clean them.

I’ve got a 1975 production “Glenfield” Marlin Model 60 made in Connecticut. 18 round capacity 22” barrel with full length magazine tube. It’s a great shooter. Very accurate and kept clean never a problem. If you ever have the opportunity to get one of the older ‘Glenfield’ model 60’s produced by Marlin in Connecticut perhaps you could do a then and now comparison between the two. 22 or ammo is somewhat dirty burning ammo and it may require more frequent cleaning with a semi auto. I’ve no scope on my rifle and with my aging eyes I’ve not tried anything at 100 yards. With this being an older rifle I’ve not noticed any cycling problems with the action as yet. I'm pretty happy with this rifle, it works well and is plenty accurate with the right ammo. I certainly would like an older "Glenfield" to try, but around here they don't come up for sale very often, I think they are one of those rifles that people hang on to. Thanks for your comment, cheers!

I have the U.S. Calvary Commemorative limited edition Marlin 6082 which is the Model 60 built in 1982, given to me by my Dad for Christmas that year. It has the 18-shot tube magazine and a 21-inch barrel. Like someone else said below, I won't be giving mine up until I have to and it'll go to someone else in my family who'll appreciate it. It's in great shape and a fun rifle to shoot.

Earlier models were often stocked in birchwood and some were press checkered. I bought one new in 1976 for $65.00 Barrel lengths varied. Originally these were made in New Haven Conn. One variant was the Glenfield model 60, also made by Marlin. A very successful and highly sold model that shot very well with the Microgroove™ barrels. Not sure they're made anymore, alas.

Good review! A fellow can't have too many 22 firearms! I happen to have an older Glenfield Marlin model 60. It's a transitional model with 22" barrel, holds 18 rounds and has the last shot bolt-hold-open feature. It was made in Marlins New Haven CT plant. Very accurate gun. Mine does well with CCI Blazer and CCI Mini Mag ammo.

Remington Yelow Jacet are 34 or 36 gr, and Marlin model 60 barrel is constructed with 1:16 micro grove twist rate, wich just love 36 gr fast bullets. Best results for this rifle came with all 34-36 gr bullets. The 36 gr Remington Golden Bullet is special made for model 60 by Marlin's order.

Another advantage of the tubular magazine, over the detachable box, is that the rifle will have a slightly lower profile. Plus, there are fewer things to catch on clothing and other random items. If you want faster loading in the field, there are many recommendations. My favorite is using clear flexible tubing to store the requisite number of bullets per tube used. Other KZbinrs have videos explaining this.

Yes, tube mags are much less "sticky out" than detachable box mags. I had a buddy who used to make tube type speed loaders for his lever action .357, personally I have no need for speed loaders for this type of firearm.

Agreed. Yes, their use would be very limited. However, it might be an idea for someone to use for rodent hunting. Especially in the winter. Loading a .22lr tube in sub 20°F weather is less than fun. This is coming from Wisconsin after all.

Beautiful rifle! I really like that laminated stock. I just bought a 60 a couple weeks ago used from a private seller. Did the nickel trick and also polished the bolt and internals. It had the black synth stock. I got an 80's era stock from eBay and am currently refinishing it. Unfortunately it's Birch, so its not nearly as nice as yours. But I like it, it has a rustic charm.

Not everyone likes the laminate stock, but I think they are quite nice. I got lucky when I purchased this rife as it was priced the same price as the basic plastic stock, which I think was a mistake but the shop let me have it for the lower price. I wonder what the future holds for the model 60 now that Ruger owns Marlin?

@@314299 I'm really hoping that at LEAST the quality control goes up. With my particular rifle, the front sight is canted clockwise a few degrees, and the tube mag isnt centered in the dovetail. The end of my barrel looks twisted. No matter, I added a much better scope and mount.

I got the one with the squirrel engraved on the stock Great rifle Did you know if you pull the charging handle out it's a bolt hold open I'm sure I have about 100000 rounds through it and it's not even close to being worn out The bolt likes to freeze up when it gets dirty though Mine is made a little different No plastic on it No bolt release

Thanks for sharing. Have been thinking about a brand new Marlin 60. I do know Remington bought out Marlin and am wondering if the quality of the Model 60 is kept in the new production series or if the quality will be lost. The bold handle is now metal so maybe not a bad thing there. I do know several things have changed on the 60 and not for the better. A plastic trigger assembly is stupid and asking for trouble as is an Allen hex head take down screw that will make a field strip even more tedious. It is starting to put me off of this proven design that is now being degraded by Remington. Remington should have left the rifle alone rather than mess with a proven design and they will lose sales because of it. Please keep us informed of any failures for the long term function and reliability of the rifle. Thanks. Might be opting for a used 60 instead. I see more and more folks going for the older used firearms that are better quality than the new ones.

+RB M : Just a few things. I have one which was assembled from marlin parts in the remington factory a couple of years ago. I have fired a few thousand rounds out of it. Except for two split cases from thunderbolts, I have not had any failures at all. I have used model 60's for a couple of years short of 60 years and always been happy. The newest one is no exception. I replaced the take down screw with a readily available black metal screw from a big box hardware store very early on and although I have never felt the need to field strip it in the field the thought is there. I just sent off the action for trigger work and am waiting for the mailman as we speak. Even with the additional money for the trigger work. I feel this is one of the best values out there. With my trigger work it is still almost a hundred dollars less than my son in laws 10/22 and he spent $75 for the bx trigger on that too. IMHO just buy one you won't be sorry.

If the new Remington/Marlin rifle is so good then why did you have to send off for trigger work? Did the trigger malfunction or fail? I just would really like to know about its reliability. RB M: A few cents ($0.79 ) so all I have to carry in the field is a swiss army knife could not be considered a big deal. I think they use Allen screws so they can assemble quickly in the factory, only reason I can think of. Next, why did I have a trigger job done? I am an older guy with arthritis and any extended shooting is quite painful and takes all the fun out of plinking or target shooting. the work was less expensive that the "drop in" BX trigger that is quite popular with 10/22 folks (and yes I also own a number of Rugers). I have over 3000 rounds through my rifle with only 2 failures both due to split cases on crappy ammo. I routinely shoot less than an inch at 50 yards with this rifle on the range and keeping in mind this is a sub $200 rifle that is mighty good. It is also very deadly on small game in our area. For longer distances, I use a marlin xt17 it has been flawless in though thousand of of rounds and recently for longer ranges put a hundred ground squirrels to sleep. good luck and good shooting

Ah. Okay. I understand. No trigger problems. Just a trigger adjustment for disability. I will probably go ahead and get one at that price anyway. It would be a good second to my Winchester Model 190. The 190 can shoot under an inch at 80 yards with iron sights. But my eyes are older now and I doubt I could do what I used to when I was younger with the 190. Thanks for the hands on information.

I have now had (one of the first "remlins" )for the better part of 3 years, with the exception of the aforementioned plastic trigger guard which was replaced when I had some trigger work done by arrowdoger. I got an "old / new" metal one from Midway for a very reasonable price. That being said. I have over 5000 rounds of rugged use through my rifle with only a couple of FTE's and those were due to crappy ammo splitting their cases. It is a takcdriver for sure it always, in my hands, gives ¼" moa at 50 yards and 1" moa at 100 (when the wind cooperates. ) So, the barrel with microgroove is the key not the other things.

Love the Model 60! Mine likes Federal Champions and will put them in at an inch at 50 yards. Now if I could just find ammo! It is getting a bit better down here in the states but I fear it will never be like it was prior to 2012.

That brown laminate stock is IMO is the best looking stock on any model 60.I like tube fed much better than magazine fed,,get yourself one of those Spee-D-Loaders & load your tube in 1 second.The only complaint I have about the Model 60 is that flimsy trigger guard and one of the take down screws goes through the back of the trigger guard.When putting it back together after cleaning,if you tighten that back screw just the least bit too much,it will crack & break..Good video.

The only thing I have against Marlin Rifles is that Marlin and other aftermarket manufacturers of Stocks refuse to produce Super Cool Laminate Stocks for Marlin bolt and Semi auto 22 cal rifles. I've had my 880 SQL for more than 20 yrs and I'm now attempting to go beyond 300 yds when the weather finally cooperates. Rain and High winds do not favour a 22 cal long rifle pellet. I do have part one posted on You Tube , out to 300 yds just follow my name and its there...SURE WISH MARLIN would pay attention to the aftermarket stocks

I think I paid about $90 for it on sale. Definitely prefers high velocity ammo. CCI, Remmington, Blazer. Anything but Winchester's 333 or 555. Always have issues with that ammo in 22lr auto's. Have noticed that the new CCI mini mags are not the same stuff I got used to. Thinner brass now makes it prone to bend as it loads into the chamber.

@@314299 yes, thanks. I'm sure of it. I've bought many before I retired, gave away a couple as gifts to reliable friends birthdays & such. Besides the pretty laminated one I stumbled across one brand new in the box, birch wood stock while cleaning up back room. I have 18" in plastic stock had less than 50 rnds fired. A nice 1989 22" gold trigger, walnut press checkered stock 14+1. And a new in the box stainless with scope, walnut stock. And a 795 which I recomend in plastic, walnut is way nicer. I Like collecting. I have too many Rossi pump 22's also, they are fun. I'm very comfortable reworking trigger slop, & broken parts.

I recently bought a Marlin 60 synthetic stock and the 2 screws have allen heads. None of my Allen wrenches fit. Want to go out and shoot it but waiting to get correct allen wrench so I can get familiar with taking it down and reassembling it after I shoot it so as to clean it after shooting 200 plus rds. If your Allen wrenches are standard/imperial size and don't fit I would suggest trying metric to see if one of those fits.

Just so you know it is 14+1 round. So you load one then add one more to the tube. Yours has the same dark stock as mine does.

Yeah, just as long as you get that "extra" round by manually placing it in the chamber after filling the mag tube. Dont try to "top up" the mag tube with a chambered round or you'll be pointing a loaded gun at your hand when you pull put the magazine follower tube.

Yes the barrel is Micro-Groove rifling, it's nineteen inches long. A bit odd that they went with that length and not eighteen or twenty, perhaps it had to do with the mag tube.

I expect the manufactures of 22 ammo have little incentive to make good ammo when they can make junk and still sell it as fast as they can make it.

I am trying to find some info/opinions on unloading this gun. As he mentioned its almost impossible to keep your hand out of the firing line of the muzzle when taking out the tube. So say i have a few rounds left in the tube and one in the chamber, ideally i would empty the tube and then cycle the last round out of the chamber but this puts my hand in front of the muzzle with a round in the chamber. Only other option is to just cycle them all out which seems to be the safest option just not the most convenient. Curious if any thoughts on this. Not interested in "just shoot till its empty", keep seeing that comment on forums but thats not practical sometimes and is a waste.

Really like the laminated wood stock. But seems the new ones in the stores these days don't have that same laminated look, but rather just a 'plain jane' looking wood stained stock. Wonder if Marlin went el-cheapo now on the stock and got rid of the nice laminated stock like in this video?

I don't see the brown laminated stock on Marlin's website, just the grey laminate with the stainless finish metal. Perhaps they dropped the brown laminate version.

I noticed that too, but the description on Marlin's website still says "Monte Carlo walnut-finished laminated hardwood". www.marlinfirearms.com/Firearms/SelfLoading/60.asp And the photo does look like the stock is laminated - you can see streaks running through it. It just doesn't look as extreme as on your rifle. www.marlinfirearms.com/images/zoom_60.jpg But the base Model 60s I've seen in the stores don't seem to have any lamination on the stock - nothing that looks like the photo I linked above. Instead, the stock looks to be a solid piece of wood vs laminated. Of course laminating the stock would cost more to make, so maybe they have gotten away from it and haven't updated their website yet - ??

Yes, the older ones have flat head screws which look more "proper" on a firearm, but the current type are perhaps better as they are less likely to get buggered up.

In many ways the internet is just like the old days of guys standing around trading stories, there is often some exaggeration and sometimes outright lies. In my videos I just show the results I got, sometimes good, sometimes bad. I know there are better and worse shots than me, I'm only giving an average idea of what is possible. Is that a 32mm or 40mm objective scope you have mounted? I'm trying to decide on a scope, and figure I would need medium height rings for a 40mm objective and might get by with low rings if I went with a 32mm objective scope. I plan on getting the model 60SB which has a fold down rear sight, so that helps provide more scope clearance too. Also you said you have Weaver tip-off (dovetail style) scope rings - do you know the part number for them? Thanks for any info on the scope mounting.

Both are certainly good rifles, but as the Marlin are a more recently produced rifle I think I would go with it as there is better selection of parts an accessories if you need them. However both are accurate and reliable and I don't think you could go too wrong with either,

I've got the same one with the same beautiful wood laminate stock. Great .22 but my sights were/are all jacked up and haven't bothered to fix them, I just threw a scope on it. Can the magazine tube bracket pin be pushed out to put a sling mount on it?

There are kits to allow mounting the sling to the mag tube but a lot of folks find them unsatisfactory. Probably better to mount the front sling to the stock instead.

The main issues with the CZ511are the difficult to find and expensive magazines and the somewhat gritty trigger. The main issue with the Marlin is that the accuracy is just OK, not excellent as the CZ is in this regard.

Wildcats are old unless the new copper plated ones. Marlins shallow 16 land 16 groove micro groove(1 in 16" twist) generally does not like plain lead rounds with no copper plating. The new copper wildcats zing pretty good. 1" group at 50 for me. Any thing copper plated ,high velocity is worth a good try in a marlin model 60. Especially if it is on the larger or over sized dia for .22 which wild cats are,but the plain lead argues, it strips & leads up the barrel in stead of spin correctly. Mini mag copper plated by cci work well & I find Aguila super extra Plus copper plated rules the world in my model 60. Try 3/8" to 1/2" group with 10 rounds benched at 50yrds. Consistantly time & again! Yes scoped fixed 6× cheap bushell. That is my coyote round simply made for ear & between the eyes shooting. Really that's all you should ever do with a .22lr on a coyote if you intend to be humane and know you got & can find it. Usually in the same 10 foot circle it was standing in when you fired. 50 yrds with a one inch 10 round group,dont try it until you can get that from the rifle & amo your using. And dont bother with any body shots at all even if you can get that, unless you like to search all day,feel bad & wonder. Trust me,I'm 56 in n.y. & been at this a long time due to state rules. Also, dont shoot head shots past 100 yrds with a .22lr on yotes ,& you better be getting a 1,1/8 group with 10 rounds at 100 yrds or dont bother pulling the trigger.

@@314299 They were discontinued for quite a while & then there was talk of bringing them back in copper plated which I've yet to see. If I found any while looking they were already over 10 years old on the mfd so selling expired amo that will be inconsistent & other malfunctions. Sorry,I wont buy any until I see a current manufactured date on an un opened box. Amo is only good at its peak for 10 yrs. The powder breaks down( rps) rowdy powder syndrome. 10 years & the group size can go from 1/2 to 4". I can not find the new CV opoer wild cats I read about. But I said I get a one inch group with them at 50 yrds.? I'll explain. I used Winchester high velocity copper plated hollow points in 36 grain & 1280 fps which are extremely similar to the specifications of the new rumored wild cats. So I'm dieing to try some fresh new copper plated wild cats. The old lead ones used to fly out of my wards western field 11 shot tube load bolt action in nothing short of an incredible way. Like the same hole most of the time at 50 yrds with double peep sights. No kidding. For 98cents a box? That was 1995 -1998. The wards had 4 land,4 grove 1in 16 twist that was wider & deeper groves that loved soft pure lead slugs. These marlins dont do well with pure lead cause of their super shallow narrow micro grove rifling. Rugers do better with pure lead with their 6 land & 6 groove 1in 16 twist rifling ,because again,it is wider,deeper groves,that grab hold of & support more soft pure lead which is almost molten when fired. I invented a bullet lube that works well on everything from modern powder to black powder & pyrodex. Put it on a patch & patch out a clean gun barrel before loading to prep it & I can make those marlins shoot pure lead & any other gun do better than they ever have. Can even put some on the bullets before you shoot.

Plain is good. I like my older model got it when I was 10 and I’m :59 now. I may need a scope I can’t see the end of the barrel sight and getting it on the target. Just my eyes not as good as when I was younger. I think mine holds 18 rounds. Never really counted it but it’s at least 17 for sure. Can you tell me what is the best ammo for these guns super X seems to work good but what’s your opinion. Thanks for your help.

The lifter is not in the same place with the bolt forward, this makes room for one more round.

I would not recommend filing on any firearm sear, that could lead to accidental discharges. Carefully smoothing the contact surfaces with a fine whetstone might improve things a bit, as long as no material is removed and the surfaces are only polished.

+Gungeek It liked high velocity ammo, standard velocity/target ammo gave some failures to cycle. The gun was getting pretty dirty at the point I did the video, so I gave it a good cleaning this afternoon. I'll try it again, now that it's clean, with the standard velocity stuff to see how it works with it then.

i have a marlin model 80, no idea if its a d, dl, or c but i know it was made in the 60s (or before) as there is no serial number and it has the target in the stock. it likes the winchester copper plated hollow points, i had some federal blue box and it was all over the place. what do you think about aquila? i picked up 100rds to try and haven't got around to shooting it yet. also got a federal bulk pack im gonna try. any info on some good ammo or anything about my weapon would be nice to know, thanks!

Aguila makes good ammunition, but of course the only way to see what your rifle "likes" is to a variety of different loads in your rifle. If i were to suggest any particular loading to try it would be CCI subsonic hollow point, that stuff shoots exceptionally well in any rifle I have tried it in.

You are confusing the old pattern magazine with the new one. This is the new pattern rifle with a 14+1 capacity and a 19 inch barrel. The old pattern model 60 has a 17+1 capacity and a 22 inch barrel.

I got really lucky buying a newer synthetic version on sale for $129 last year and not only will it feed every standard and high velocity round I've tried as fast as you can pull the trigger but it's got accuracy that I would put up against any 22 rifle on the market. It's an absolute 1-hole-group laser. I put a Nikon rimfire 3-9x scope on it and use it for squirrel hunting with my dog. We have some massively tall pine and oak trees and I can't tell you how many squirrels I've hit right in the ear hole from pretty far off with that gun. I don't think I'd take ten times what I paid for it at this point.

The scope is generic Chinese made 3-9x unit (the brand name is "Ravage"), it is mounted in a set of Weaver rings. While it is cheap scope it works decent, however I would recommend getting something from Bushnell instead as they have a good warranty on their products, which is worth the slightly higher price.
