Thank you for this tutorial. A friend asked me to make some more hunting hats for husband. Then, he chimed in, asking if I could add a brim this time. I said, "Sure," even though I didn't have a clue how to do it. Now, I know, and it's much easier than the short row knit version I tried to do on my own. :)

Love this pattern! I did it with BL singles instead of slip stitches and it worked just as well. I also did a modification where the first Stitch and the last Stitch of every row I go under both Loops instead of just the back Loop to make the edges more sturdy

Listen, I know this hat came out three years ago but I just found this pattern because my father has been asking for three hats with a brim. I've crocheted hats with brims before but they weren't sturdy. I whipped the first one up and was like "oookaaayyyyy Marly, go with your bad self and this pattern" then I whipped up the other two and they LOVE their hats all the way in northern Minnesota IN the mountains near Canada. Then I made the mistake of posting a photo of me modeling the hats and now everyone is wanting them.....My sister, son, daughter in law....ME , I want one too. These brims are the best I've ever crocheted.

I love the look of this brim. I printed off the his and hers messy bun hat pattern yesterday. I had to whip up the gauge square four times to match your gauge. The link above took me to a cowl pattern instead of the hat pattern. I really hope that you do make the video soon for the hat. I'm struggling like crazy to follow the directions. I guess I would consider myself an intermediate crocheter if I had to label my skills. I think the thing that makes it difficult for me to follow is that you don't use a stitch count. That might help if you could add that in there somehow. You do amazing work and I appreciate you sharing for free. Thanks for giving back to this world, Marly!
@MarlyBird8 жыл бұрын
Hi. There are stitch counts for the brim and the body of the hat. Is there somewhere else I should add them? Just let me know and I will.
@larkbird92478 жыл бұрын
Hi, User; stitch counts are in the "Body of the Hat" section of the pattern. It's crocheted from the bottom up. start w/ 80 HDC foundation without brim; or 46 HDC foundation added onto the 34 brim stitches. I would, of course, tailor the stitch count to the size you need. I was confused looking at the pattern, too. It's a lovely hat and I'm looking forward to working it.
@piecesofprecious8 жыл бұрын
Lark Bird thanks! your tip helped me figure out that step. Its really the beginning that has/had me confused. I figured it out. I finished a beautiful cranberry red hat. Now I want to start a new one and I'm scratching my head at the beginning steps again because I didn't make notes and didn't complete the hat as quickly as I wanted to. I suppose I'd better go back to the full online version instead of my printed copy. As I recall, that's how I finally figured it out the first time. This hat is truly lovely and I've had requests as I've been making this one. 😁

Is this brim adjustable meaning can it be made longer more like a baseball cap brim as compared to a bike helmet brim or jockey's helmet brim as my wife wants a brim but she likes it longer more like ball cap. Also am brand new to Crochet not even started my first stitch yet. How do these style brims hold up. I need to watch your full video but is there something internal to give it stiffness as it grows in length or do they tend to hold up with just being worn and such as she wants it more like a ball cap style not dropping down into the eyes

@themoog63774 жыл бұрын
Hey all! I notice that many were also confused on how to start the 46-80 “foundation chain” when the brim is done when following the accompanying ribbed hat pattern shown in this video. I found a later video of a hat she does that uses the same foundation chain as in this pattern. ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4HCYZhnZb2Bgbs ). So when the brim is done, you need to chain 46 and sl st it to the other end of the brim to create the round THEN start the foundation double crochet that she refers to. This worked well for me and measured correctly.
