I and my husband find that after prolonged use of the marodyne (over a daily use of one year) we both have stiffness and pain in our calves. Do you have any idea why this may be happening and are we using it too often, need to change position OR? Thanks

@@magpiegirl3783 I was not on any osteoporosis medication nor have I ever been. I increased my walking, I was already doing some exercise weight bearing. I added extra D3 and Magnesium I added k2 and Marine Collagen and I am taking a small amount of strontium 250mg and Resvertrol. I made sure the dexa scan was taken at the same place and a bone marker test taken at the same time also showed a big improvement.

@@magpiegirl3783 I haven't changed my diet much but I have added prunes, I have about five most days and I have a plum extract queen garnet plum that I sprinkle on some yoghurt most days also. I would say my increase would be a combination of all these and definitely the vibration plate. I listed the other things I do. I have had no fractures so even though my bones were low density spine -3.4 femur -3.2 and have had a number of heavy falls I felt, and it is only my opinion that bone quality my be just as important as bone density.

I purchased the LiV when the $250 discount was offered on your yourtube video. I think that was 2+ years ago. I do your exercise routines 2.5 yrs also. And have used the LiV daily until about 5 months ago. I injured my back (sleeping in ill fitting recliner), but now am experiencing difficulty getting it completely pain free. I realized I don't think I heard the researcher who developed it address the following question in your interviews, which I am now asking myself: Should I be using the LiV when I am experiencing back pain? Even if it could be due to compression issues beginning in my back ? I don't believe I've ever heard this question addressed in the videos........

I think this is a remarkable device. Which could benefit many people. I think the price as set currently is immoral. If this device really cost so much that between four and $5,000 has to be the price that is fine but a similar device could be made without all of the bells and whistles for a much more modest price making it accessible too poor and middle-income people. Resulting savings to our insurance complex would be dramatic and more of them pay for it.
@le_th_
@le_th_ Жыл бұрын
You're not just paying for the device, you are also paying for all the costs associated with the research & development, and the costs to put the study together and execute it long enough to extract the data (and the scans that each person in the study had to have in order to have said data). Surely you realize this, logically? Anyone can slap a motor on a board and make it vibrate. That takes ZERO talent or skills, and has ZERO data to back up whether or not it actually WORKS. I mean, you're not a young guy. Surely by now you understand how this works? You likely also know that it . costs more money to initially manufacture something and, as demand increases and you increase production (because demands has increased), manufacturing costs go down. This is business 101. Did you *not* watch the video where the researcher talks about how much the clinical trials cost and how difficult it was to get people to volunteer? If not, you need to go watch it. I also agree with you that it is cost prohibitive for most people...right now. ...and your insurance company doesn't care about you...at all. They're hoping to extract enough money from you and then have you suddenly die. That's true for your car insurance, too. It's cheaper for the health and auto insurance companies if you die, then if they have to pay to restore your health if something serious happens.

Went to their website through your link and sent my info. to them. Unfortunately, I don't see any reviews made by people in USA. The few they have are mostly from UK. Is there not anyone from USA or the other parts of the world, even in Canada who have used this machine for bone health? Hi Margaret, thank you for all you do for those with osteoporosis. I have been corresponding with Marodyne and have the opportunity to purchase one. My purchase is largely based on this review and my respect for your opinion. This video review was made 2 years ago. Do you still feel strongly that the Marodyne LIV is beneficial? I lift weights, play pickleball and walk a lot. This could fill in some gaps for me. It would not replace anything. There was a study done by Dr Belinda Beck and she discusses her findings in a KZbin from 2 months ago and clearly states it doesn’t work. I would like to hear if your position has changed since posting this. Thank you.

Hi, thank you for the wonderful video. I have osteoporosis of the left femur bone and osteopenia of the back and hips. I also have had rheumatoid arthritis for 23 years. I’m 68. I have used the device since 11/5/21. My hips have stopped twitching at night. I put it on Care Credit $3080, for one year, as I live in the US, and pay it off monthly. I feel it is worth it. Ever since I’ve had it it has had a loud alarm, sometimes when I finish the ten minutes and sometimes when I get off during the ten minutes. I am sending the device back tomorrow 1/27/22, to be fixed. It will take one week. And, I do hot pilates without the heat six times a week, 45 minutes a session. Thank you, Ellen

Thank you for your comment. It is wonderful of you to share your story. My Marodyne device also makes a loud noise to let me know I am done or if I step off in between. It is just a feature of the machine. I don’t know if there is anything wrong with it but it is good to have it checked out. Stopping the device for one week will not make a difference. By the time you do your next bone density test you will have over 700 sessions on the vibration platform. If you want to boost the benefit you can add a second 10-minute session in your day. Allow 3 - 5 hours between sessions for maximum benefit. It is great that you are practicing Pilates but please be sure that you are not doing any contraindicated movements. There are many moves in Pilates that can put your spine at risk. Because of your RA the dexa scan is giving you a false reading. Making your spine score look osteopenic rather than osteoporotic. This can seem confusing but the reason is that when we have arthritis we get bone spurs and changes to the bone that do not make out bones stronger but do make our bones look stronger - the machine is not very smart. So please take care, Margaret
@ellenmark4
@ellenmark4 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Margaret for your important reply. When I get the device back I will let you know how it is doing alarm wise. Yes, I understand I’m not to do rounding of the back, sit ups, and be careful with twisting movements. I think the main thing is to keep proper alignment, is that correct? I understand fractures in the spine can be silent. I am going to find a physical therapist in my locality that can help me develop an osteoporosis program. I read your book and that was helpful. The Marodyne Liv is such a great machine. It has helped my balance, lessened my pain, given me more confidence that I can turn my osteoporosis diagnosis around. I do plan to use the device twice a day when I get it back. Thank you so much for your kind reply.

When I first turned my Marodyne on I had it on a tiled bathroom floor and it made a loud alarm. That means the machine is not completely flat on the floor. Just moving it around slightly enabled it to register that it was flat and I was able to use it. I don't generally move it around - I have a spot for it, but sometimes, even if I haven't moved the machine, it will still sound the alarm, so I just move it slightly.

@@susanwilson5820 Yes, it does. The signal goes through your body all the way to your head. You will experience a quiet chattering of your teeth. This indicates that the signal is going through your hips and your spine. A couple of important items. 1./ Do not bend your knees. This will weaken the signal. 2./ The reason why the $200 - $2000 whole body vibration platforms tell you to bend your knees is to weaken the signal. The signal on these platforms is so strong that there have been cases of retinal detachment. Thank you for this video Margaret. I'm Australian and made enquiries about the Marodyne here. Only one medical firm supplies it here and it costs $4,500 plus tax and freight. So, I decided to bite the bullet and invest in this given I'm at 3.0 T score in my spine. I'm doing your exercises and reformer pilates with a physiotherapist who understands resistance training needs for bone health. I am still confused about the amount of time you need to spend on this machine to optimise results. I keep hearing Dr Rubin talk about 10 minutes either in one session, or 2 x 5 min sessions every day, but in one of your video talks with him you asked whether it could be done more times in the day and he said yes but did not explain whether it could be another 10 minutes or less time. Can you please clarify? I understand if you do more than one session, they need to be 3 to 5 hours apart. So ... can you do 2 sessions of 10 mins each with 5 hours between? And can you do light arm exercises during a session? Also, is it best to do some exercise immediately after your Marodyne session such as a walk or one of your exercise routines? Thanks so much.

Hi Sandra. Congrats. Lotsa questions! It is important that you continue your exercise program outside of you Marodyne time. Keep up the good work. 1./ The default time on the device is 10 minutes per session. Stick with that time. Await the refractory period (several hours) before another 10 minute session (or your exercise program). 2./ You can do light arm exercises but you need to maintain alignment to ensure the signal propagates through your skeleton. 3./ Depending on your schedule it would be great if you could have your 10 minute Marodyne session and then follow several hours later with your osteoporosis strength training, weight bearing ...

ISO certification is a seal of approval from a third-party that attests that a company's device, machine, or material meets certain standards of safety, whole-body vibration being one measure tested. Excess vibration is a known cause of both acute and chronic injury to a range of physiologic systems, including the musculoskeletal, circulatory, and nervous system. ISO certification indicates experts have looked at a product and it does not exceed levels that could be injurious. I did a brief survey of the twenty or so WBV platforms on Amazon and could not find one that had ISO certification. I read several hundred one-star reviews of five or six platforms and found comments claiming the use of the unit had caused some people immediate, acute, and sometimes serious health problems. One customer allegedly experienced potential life-threatening a-fibs, another chronic pain, a third a detached retina, another chronic insomnia, and a fourth dangerously elevated blood pressure. I might have missed something but I did not see any of these units touted as having ISO certification, nor did they mention the g-force experienced by the body while using the unit. There appear to be only two platforms that have ISO certification. The first is the Marodyne LIV (Low-intensity vibration) and the Juvent device. Both also are approved as medical devices; Juvent in the U.S. and the Marodyne in the U.K., Australia, and I presume Germany as well as other nations in the E.U. Consequently, the answer to your question is that all WBV-high-intensity platforms are potentially unsafe and I would feel confident that some uses of every unit other than the Juvent and Marodyne are exposing themselves to potentially injurious levels of vibration and g-force. Remember, it can take years for certain things to create health problems--smoking, alcohol abuse, and a sedentary lifestyle are only three. High-Intensity whole-body vibration platforms may be a fourth.

@@andredarin8966 thank you for this comprehensive answer. Sounds like Juvent is the only one available in the US and both researched and developed by the same people. My main concern is the exclusivity of them- also with distributors it sounds much like other multilevel marketing schemes, not that that is an inherently bad thing, but it does make me wonder if it is too good to be true. (Hey- I still use my Chi machine” from two decades ago 😊) The manufacturers must have patented proprietary technology I suppose. The warning on the less expensive versions is very good to know. Though have specific studies been done with these to verify? We on the low income scale will be challenged to participate in this healthy and bone supporting trend. After all we are a capitalist society it seems. Perhaps there will be a trend for gyms,etc. to have these for public use. Thank you.

@margaretmartinpt
@margaretmartinpt 2 жыл бұрын
@@susanwilson5820 Hi Susan. Sounds like you are doing everything within your control. Congrats. The answer to your question is ... depends. A key variable is age. The older people are, the lower the density of mesenchymal stem cells (that become bone, cartilage or fat). Hence older people will benefit more than young people from low intensity vibration. In fact, people who are in their late teens and into their twenties - who exercise (a must) - will gain little benefit from a LiV. I do not know how old you are or your particular situation (beyond the scope of this exchange on KZbin) so I cannot give more guidance than that. If you are advanced in age and do the Exercise for Better Bones program, you are probably okay. However, if you want everything in your favor (and can afford it), then a LiV is another feather in your cap. If you were advanced in age, trending to low bone density and do little exercise, then the LiV is recommended. The alternative is pharmaceutical intervention.

His response follows: "we haven't studied it specifically, but given that ISO-2631* is specifically worried about Peripheral Artery Disease, and comes up w/ thresholds they consider safe for exposure levels... and that our signal is WELL within the margins of what they consider safe (or non-perturbing to cardiovascular disease)... then it would be a go... Taking that one step further, an old colleague of mine, Ken Mcleod, has studied LIV with circulation**, more as a means of PROMOTING blood flow thru the lower limbs (muscle contraction being called by some as a 'second heart')... the attached paper shows that the buzzing actually promotes circulation in the lower limbs."
