Since I have had osteoporosis for many years, I've been practicing a lot of the tips you shared in the past for avoiding twisting and flexing the back, but I don't remember learning these. I am very glad to have them to further support my efforts at keeping my back as healthy as possible. Thank you!

I'm quite excited about good body mechanics. Since I started strength training I feel much more deliberate in my movements and I'm happy to find I'm naturally tending towards some of the modifications you're suggesting here!

Margaret, can I dance? There are so many twists and turns in partner dancing, cha-cha, swing, hustle - I miss that active part of my once social life. The Dr said i can do any activity he can do - but he isnt 3 inches shorter from spinal compression fractures in his lower spine...please, what is available to me?

Thank you Margaret for a really helpful video. But there’s one daily movement that worries me every day - how do you safely put on a pair of socks? I have to bring my legs up to my stomach to put my sock on but surely that’s like doing a scrunchie isn’t it? I thought that was an exercise no-no. I have severe osteoporosis in the spine. Thank you for any advice re socks and tights. x

Wonderful Information! May I ask what does one do when parking tho when I drive I have a tendency to twist to look back when I park … I guess I need to rely entirely on the mirror

I have found that my legs are not strong enough to squat down or lunge down to pick things up off the floor or ground. My ankles are also stiff. I’m working on it. Do you have any suggestions?

A twisting movement, whether during a daily activity or in a pilates class, has the same effect and should be avoided or modified.

Hello I am 72 years of age and have a fracture t8 on my spine. Also have osteoporosis. I am active and would like to add a rebound in my routine. Is it safe?

have osteoporosis and compression at T12. I am seeing a PT as i recently had lumbar and thoracic back spasms. The pt has asked that I do side bends and twists to get mobility back. My mid back is stiff. I am having second thoughts because of what i am reading (must keep back straight). Should i be doing these exercises? I mentioned this to him and he said that it was ok as it is a slight bend and we need some flexibility.

I’m commenting because you haven’t had a response to your important question yet. Margaret has some stretches to address side bends- you lay on your back and move your legs and arms along the floor so that you are shaped like a banana. I’m sure there are others, and I would recommend looking through her videos and books for more.
