Nasboi has an emotional intelligence. I love how he wears his heart on his sleeve. Freely expressing his emotions with honesty. One can see the transparency from his expression of things. On the other hand, I like Eche’s reasoning too but I think she didn’t get enough chance to share her opinion. Here’s my two cents, I think Nedu wazobia should learn to give the guests more chance to share highlight on the topic via their opinion very important as we are all in the field of learning.

I actually love this particular episode and would have loved to drop a token or two about this topic. I’m a Muslim married to a practicing Catholic and there aren’t any pressures of conversion from both sides. It was a long battle but we thank God for the eventual success. I remember when my uncle, a father figure, said I couldn’t marry the girl that’s now my wife, I asked “Why?”, he flared up and got so angry, saying “how dare you question me?!” Lol It’s an interesting topic. Big ups guys!

I remember when my mother in law asked her first son not to marry me because of my tribe. (Meanwhile we are from the same state but different local government). she chose a girl of his tribe for him(the girl was a medical doctor). Because she n the girls mother has been friends. Meanwhile I got to discover why she had refused the son to marry me for one year was that there was a man who was supposed to marry her. The man had done her introduction and she was even pregnant for him, left her( not in the sense, but she jumped to conclusion). But back then, there was no phone for means of communication. So the man as at then went abroad to better his life. So back here she thought the man broke her heart. When the man finally came back to marry her, she had gotten married on recommendations. She was fortunate that the new man accepted her with the child. So she said over her dead body will her children marry from my tribe. But because she is not God, all her children ended up with the tribe she hated so much. And this has affected the way she is supposed to relate especially with her daughter in laws. #insidelife #realmatters So most times our parents may want to punish us for their heart breaks. Most times the reasons are deeper than we can imagine.

This was a lovely episode and well discussed. I think Nasboi hit the nail on the head, we struggle to have emotionally mature conversations with our parents so it's easy for them to manipulate us and say don't marry from certain tribes or religions. Most people don't realize all these things further divides us as a country which is why Nigeria is sooo divided. We can barely get along as a people which shows in the politics of the country. I think an interesting topic to be discussed is the rise of depression amongst Nigerian men.

What a person's mother/father does doesn't always come from a place of love. Let's stop saying this like it's true for everyone. It makes it easy for a lot of toxic parents to treat their children badly.

Nasboi killed it! He kept hitting the nail on the head. One thing I know our parents are not always right. After influencing their children's decision they end up with d very wrong partner and suffer the rest of their life.I feel when it comes to choosing a life partner your parents should only advice and not have an 💯 say becox no be them go stay with d wife or husband. It has happened to me and I know how painful it is.

This topic on marriage is a very sensitive topic.. speaking from experience. I am igbo and got married to Yoruba the mum hated me from the first day I met her and I wanted out but he promised to protect me. The issue is when we had issues I didnt have anyone to even stand for me from their family. We sha divorced and regretted not listening to my dad when he warned me. 😢

One of the reasons why we kept some barbaric tradition is because we failed to ask question. African parents trained their kids not to ask question so they can manipulate. To me, most of our traditions is are due for a review.

I love Echelon Mbadiwe...she's so beautiful and I love her movies. To add on to it, her view on the subject matter is the one that I totally agree with. When she said that if her boyfriend's mother does not like she will have to bounce. That is real talk. She understands marriage goes beyond two individuals living together.

It would be great if we all get married with the approval and support of our parents. If they don’t approve, we must ask and find out why and what the issues are. Those issues must be addressed if possible. Or else they must be persuaded to give their approval by explaining in detail why you want to marry the particular person only. You must have a sound case. If they are not persuaded, then wait. Don’t challenge them right away or rebel. Give them time to come around to your point of view. In nearly all cases they are well- intentioned. If you are absolutely convinced you are right then you must be firm and refuse to consider any other alliances they might try for you. If necessary, wait for one or two years also. Some parents will resort to emotional black mail. They will plead poor health and warn of premature death if you rebel and marry against their wishes. This is quite common. The answer is to say, you will not marry any one else and remain single all your life till they allow you to marry the person of your choice . Most parents will yield after some months when they see that resistance is of no use. Usually, in most families, time solves the problem. How long will parents stay estranged from their own children. Nigerian parents have this weakness. They like to “own” their children even when the children have become adults. They like to dictate career choices, and marriage choices too and can’t get used to treating their grown up children as adults with a life of their own and with a mind of their own.💯

Interesting topics. Lovely and intelligent discussions too. Nasboi is so grounded and says it as it is without bias, prejudices or stereotypes. Wish the session was longer, even though it is clear that some of this topics can't be exhausted. Keep up the good work guys and God bless you all. A quick feedback albeit, sometimes everyone is talking at the same time and a lot of interruptions occur, so points aren't completely made. Husband material can be a moderator and this will help with time management a lot.

People forget that parents have spiritual discernment, and they can pick up things that youngsters cannot readily see. When my daughters were going to get married, they brought certain people home which i didn't approve and in time my daughters saw exactly what i discerned. I also told them in what order that they would marry. To the Glory of God ,this is exactly what has happened. When my friends come with intended spouses, i tell them what i discern and so far i have been 100% accurate. Some have found out the hard and painful way.

This issue is not restricted to Nigerians o o o… I met an Ethiopian lady in USA years back, intelligent, beautiful and so wonderful, it got to a point - we finish each others sentences, we truly love each other BUT when she notified her father I will be coming to ask him for her hand, her father said CAPITAL NO… he said and I quote.. *no daughter of mine will marry a Yoruba man from Nigeria* We had to end the relationship. 5months later .. my class mate, an Indian, we became close, she knew what will eventually happen and she told me point blank (even though she is a devout Christian) *I can’t tell my parents I will be having a spouse outside my tribe* I learnt a lot from her and up till date, she still express her feelings that nobody will ever touch her heart the way I did. The lesson I learnt is as feelings go deeper; ASK QUESTIONS

This has to be my favorite episode of the honest bunch podcast. Nasboi was really honest and straight to the point, emotionally intelligent and saying with confidence, a lot of things that people usually don’t admit. The major highlight was when he said some people would have stupid parents. I agree with some things Echelon said as well. Husband material continues to be the reason I keep coming back, I love his analogy of Okafor’s law, say na Ronaldo comot for Man U, he still come back o😂😂. I think that Nedu should give room for the guests to speak, he tries to overshadow them sometimes, he did that with Echelon today and then again, he’s always deviating. Kudos to the honest bunch. If the parent gives a good reason, it's now the fact of that good reason that drives the consideration. The nature of the debate, though, should not require the parent to give a reason or that the reason be good. For instance, if my mother tells me that the girl is my father's secret love child, the prevailing force is that revelation, not the power of parental consent. The debate ought to specifically probe the power of parental approval by virtue of who it is coming from (including and especially when that approval is unreasonably withheld). So, the bottomline is that EZINNE and NASBOI stayed on topic, and marshalled clear arguments to support their position. The 'likely suspects' did great as well but special mention for these two because they are guests.

My mum is a pretty chill person so if she has reservations about my partner I would give it a serious consideration and if it my partners family, we would have to put marriage plans on hold cause marriage would be making me a part of that family. hi, can you please discuss the long term effect of "Japa" on the Nigeria as a nation and a people. it's more of a social pandemic now, and it doesn't look like it will slow down anytime soon, shall we continue down this path? where does it lead?

Nasboi spoke fact. But I’d also like peace in my family. I’d want my children want to be around their grandparents; I want to happily take them there. So it would sadden me to know that my mother-in-law doesn’t like me. I pray whosoever I fall in love with, their mom accept me.

Nasboi is very wise. However those of us who are married understand that a persons parents can make life hell for the couple if they are not in support of the marriage. My advice would be to choose peace and kindly walk away if you are not accepted, nothing is worth your peace of mind.

I love the points they’re giving and I just feel like marriage without your parents approval or behind their back is pointless because it’s just going to be chaos and most times they usually don’t last. I’m saying this because it’s literally happening in front of my eyes in my family.

The reality is that a man is interested in a woman's past as a woman is interested in a man's future. For example, let's say a man and a woman have been dating for a long time and she knows that this man can provide for her and give her the security that every woman wants. Then she finds out from a fortune teller (figuratively) that the man in the next 10 years will be a drunk, a criminal, and will start maltreating her, etc. The woman will never continue in that relationship. This is just fact
