Lucas has stated in a few interviews about this show that this is how he originally wanted to portray the Jedi but the limitations of film held him back which is why originally Lucasfilm approached several anime companies about making this show but was turned down. Also Mace Windus special technique is called Shatterpoint and its a real Jedi power, Mouse Company just likes to pretend they are the end all be all when it comes to canon. Fun fact the name of the jedi that Greivous crushes is named Shaggi, no lie.

If you need an idea on George's scale of reference on of his favorite comics is Dark Empire, the one where Palpatine knows essence transfer can the ability to create wormholes that can obliterate super star destroyers. In early drafts of Star Wars Jedi didn't have any powers at all. Once he decided on adding the Force he decided that it did in fact influence and enhance warriors in combat. People simple misquote George or take his quotes out of context when it suits them to bash the prequels or the superior old Expanded Universe.

One of the things that this mini series did a good job of showing without telling is how the distrust and lack of faith in anakin drove him away from the jedi, while palpatine shows him praise and values his skills. It really makes Anakin trusting palpatine make way more sense than it did in the movies alone, because he seems to be the only person on anakin's side, at least from his perspective.

This series should always be watched right after SW 2 & before SW 3, for proper story development. When originally aired, this was OFFICIAL CANON as declared by George Lukas. Lukas loved these 5 minute shorts (Vol. 1) so much that he formed another contract with Genndy Tartakovsky for Vol. 2. The Vol. 2 contract allowed for 15 minute episodes, giving each episode more story telling depth. It gave us the complete setup between the SW2 & SW3 movies. When the later 3D series began, Lukas declared it to be a continuation of the Tartakovsky series. Things change over time. The Tartakovsky series was retconned into being non-canon.

Pre TCW clones are best clones. They felt like elite soldiers, not comic book characters. No inhibitor chips either, they didn't have to be mind controlled to do Order 66, they had their own reasons for hating the Jedi, largely the Jedi's incompetence and callousness as battlefield commanders (the Jedi are diplomats and secret police with a pacifist ideology, they have no formal training or experience in warfare. Furthermore, the Jedi "lack of attachment" caused them to be distant and callous towards the clones and their deaths. Even in RotS Obi Wan is shown treating the death of clone pilots as if they were disposable droids. Only Anakin shows concern for their lives, just as only Anakin treats droids as sentient beings).

There is a false narrative that grievous' characterization was changed from this because "star wars is for kids, so we want a silly, cowardly schemer villian" The real reason George Lucas chose to change grievous is far simpler He simply felt that grievous would just be thought of as "Darth Vader but in white/gray"

@@nickelakon5369 This is how I'd tie 2003 and 2008 Grievous together: Windu crippled him by crushing his ribcage and organs. Grievous was left shell-shocked by this. Enough to become cautious, more willing to retreat when things got out of hand. And especially when fighting a Jedi. (Given that the Jedi are defensive warriors, Windu had to momentarily access the dark side to go for the kill like that. That was the difference between a troubled person like Anakin, and a full-fledged Master in control of their emotions. It's probably why Anakin never got to become a Master.)

@@MrJamaigarI mean, purple lightsabers are often used to signify that the user walks on both sides of the Force (Darth Revan, for example). With Star Wars, Disney has a bit of a 50/50 deal. They alternate between "good" and "crap". After that crappy new trilogy, they somehow produced a good TV show. So, I'd recommend watching The Mandalorian right after Return of the Jedi. Spoiler>/spoiler> Luke shows up later in the show, and they write him right this time: a skilled, powerful, dignified Jedi warrior. As he should be. So, here's hoping they keep this up in Ahsoka, and let him shine alongside her 🤩 (Avoid the Disney Trilogy at all costs) Spoiler>/spoiler>
