Guys I’m pretty sure they’re FAUX skins and this narrator just truly has no idea how that word is actually pronounced. Because they’re featured A LOT on this show and it’s the ONLY KIND of ‘skin’ that’s ever mentioned, and I think they even acknowledged it once that they were fake skins. Pretty sure the only atrocity actually being committed here is linguistic.
@UsagiRebL2 жыл бұрын
No, according to the episode details on multiple sites, it was 22 fox skins, not faux skins. Also I think it's kind of odd that you think the TV shows original narrator would mess up such an easy word as faux. It's a native English speaker that's doing the narration from the original episode, not the KZbin page adding narration in...... Also I want to point out that native English speakers wouldn't refer to it as faux skin but faux fur. Whereas fox skin refers to the pelt and fur.
@Violet-Storm2 жыл бұрын
@@UsagiRebL there is no standard for what native English speakers won’t screw up because English is a ridiculous, lawless language. I’ve met a hundred people who natively speak English and ONLY English, who still don’t know half the words that are in regular circulation, much less ones like this that most people don’t hear that often. That, or they’ve only ever seen them written and not heard them spoken which I suspect is what has happened here. It happens a lot, including mispronunciation by tv personalities and narrators. Sometimes the editors don’t catch it and things just slip through the cracks, and this isn’t exactly a documentary, it’s a trash reality show, so I doubt anyone would’ve cared enough to correct it. The site may have gotten confused as well, but the context clues are what lead me to believe that they mean faux. As I said, they never mention any other type of fur or skin, despite fur/skins being integrated into a lot of the outfits these specific seamstresses make, also if I recall they’re WAY cheaper than actual skins should be. Heck, it may have even been one of the seamstresses who messed up the word. All I know is I had a stint of watching this show WAY too much a few years back, and it was a concern I had as well, which is why I paid close attention to those kinds of details.
@UsagiRebL2 жыл бұрын
@@Violet-Storm understandable about the average Joe, I specifically went to native speakers who are narrators and said they wouldn't let such a simple English word pass and not correct it, especially considering the backlash fur gets.
@UsagiRebL2 жыл бұрын
Also, native speakers can mispronounce words no one denies that, but "faux fur" is how native speakers refer to fake fur because that's how it's taught in English. We say fox skin to refer to the pelt/fur together. My point was if it was non native speaker narrating then I would agree, but there are many factors in language that point to it being fox skin and not faux skin. When we discuss language with the native speaker we also have to take into consideration how terms are learned and used and how we stay within our comfort zone of terminology and it would be very very unusual for a native speaker to refer to faux fur as faux skin. I'm not just speaking out of my rear I have education to back up what I'm saying in this field.
@Violet-Storm2 жыл бұрын
@@UsagiRebL fair, counterpoint however, this was made a decade ago, is again, trash tv, and was specifically designed to be controversial, and to make g*psy culture look as heinous as possible. That isn’t to suggest that they would deliberately mislead people by intentionally pronouncing the word incorrectly, but I doubt they’d be terribly worried about sparking MORE controversy when that’s what they set out for in the first place. And again, it may even have been one of the seamstresses who told them the wrong word and no one bothered to look into it before the script got back to the voice actor.
