One of the things I like about the videos shot at Andertons is the honesty. I realize that some of what Rob and The Captain say is purely their opinion. But it's their honest opinion. I thank you for that.

My God, those clean tones are the best I've heard in ages -- so smooth and rich without compromising note definition. That amp with a neck-position Gibson PAF just can't be beat for great tone for jazz and blues.

I own this amp and love it more every jam. You will never have to turn up past 5 and if you do even the loudest of drummers will be drowned out. Only drawback is the weight 88lbs so casters are a must. Killer amp that will be with me til my dying day

+rbauer1632 Yeah, very lame. No-one buys a Bluesbreaker to play clean - its reputation, as the name suggests, is inextricably tied to Clapton's wonderfully cranked tone from 1966.

Ed, I'm sure it's a great clean tone - they're great amps! And lucky you for getting one! :) But for a 'demo'/'review' of the amp, playing it only clean is just not good enough for a prospective buyer. Even if they had to use attenuation in the demo, at least it would give a flavour of the amp's tonal characteristics when driven hard...

***** I actually meant turning the knobs on the amp, not the guitar. It's nice to know the range of the EQ and some different volume settings would have been nice as well. And at least turn the tremolo on for a second, this would not take 45 minutes at all. I agree that a Les Paul would be the obvious choice to demo a BB, but if you're gonna have three players demo the amp, at least let one of them take another guitar for a spin.

WorldPodTour Bluesbreakers are louder than any 100 watt tube Marshalls or similar. Since this is a reissue there is no master volume and if they had cranked it, not even ear plugs could have saved them. I think I read in an interview that you could easily play this amp unmiced at Wembley stadium. Crazy.

Chris Jimenez You are a bit misinformed. This amp is rated at 30 watts. The originals claimed 45 but were more like 30-33. This amp is not louder than a 100 watt tube Marshall. It is a few db over half as loud. I own both and play both dimed on a regular basis (the 100 watter is a '70 Super Lead). There is a lot of mystique surronding the Bluesbreaker and therefore a lot of wild claims. It is a magical sounding amp but the laws of physics do still apply.

Ok but to get the "Beano" tone, Clapton insisted, against the recording engineer's training, to have the amp on 10, and not close miked. He insisted it be miked from about 10 feet away to get some "air" into the sound. Clapton played directly in front of the amp, cranked on 10, to get sympathetic overtones and feedback basically on every note. The distortion was natural, not from any sort of "distortion" channel or pedal. Everybody knows that!

Of course the bass is sloppy and muddy - it's a Marshall. I have NO doubt that ( just like ALL Gibson USA made guitars... ) this thing is incredibly overpriced. If you want a wonderful tube amp, that can do ANY tone from Fender-esque clean to George Lynch hi-gain molten crunch, buy a Friedman BE100. These things have the smoothest creamiest gain that would make the most ardent Marshall fan green with envy, AND incredible note-to-note articulation with deep and clear Bass. I have NEVER heard another amp sound this killer. Not Cameron, Bogner, Soldano, Mesa, Engl, Diezel, 5153, Carvin V3 or Blackstar. Do yourself a favor and look them up here if you don't believe me. Leave the mushy Marshalls to all the guitarists over 60 who have no hearing left and are still living in the Woodstock generation mentally and want to buy gear for nostalgia's sake, and not true sonic quality. .

I was in Milton Keyens two years ago at the Marshall factory (from California). A tech who has been with Marshall 20 years explained to me why my 100 watt Plexi re-issue does not sound like the originals. He said, "We are working on the problem." He told me this . . take it or leave it, this is what he said. He said that the Govt. made Marshall put more separation between the coils of their output trannys for safety fire purposes and this changed the sound.

Man thats one great sounding amplifier the base end is punchy and the highs are smooth and creamy and ring out nice, sounds like it would be nice for hendrix style E blues stuff

Crush40thebest Still, for me to spend that much on an amp and it have little - to - no distortion would be a watse of many for me. I don't always rate Marshalls that highly anyway. A lot of the other high end amps I've heard blow them out the water when it comes to tone. Suhr, Victory and PRS amps all sound better to me...but that's just me.

Crush40thebest 60s amps didn't NEED an overdrive channel. Surely you've heard of The Who? Guinness world record loudest concerts ever? The whole point is 60s amps kicked the snot out of these tame, lame solid state weak ass excuse for real analog goodness. A real Marshall will laugh at you derisively when you crank it, and those Celestions will last for a while. There'd be no need on those amps, to dial back the volume to save wear and tear on the speakers. They loooove it. If you cranked one in the store, you'd just be giving it it's first unwinding and relaxing toward that sweet spot, like breaking in a good guitar. It just makes it better, up to a point of course. But it will be a long time before you're actually damaging speaker material. Playing nicey with a Marshall can only ever be less than half the story. But even the new ones can take more abuse than this.

TheBlisterer Amps with no OD, especially this one, take pedals HEAVENLY. There is really no reason to have od on an amp nowadays. Plus its a 60's amp, they would just crank it for od, and let it break up. Thats true od.

Lee you are a fucking incredible blues player, I knew that since I first saw that 335 demo or whatever it was. Very nice amp, as soon as I heard the first note I almost said "wow". I used to listen to Jon Mayall's Bluesbreakers album religiously

This is not a good review. They don't put the amp through it's paces and treat it with a reverence usually reserved for royalty on news broadcasts.

I know, and theres a few cats on here gushing worse over it than that. It's the bullshit mythology I cant stand. Thats what keeps the price mega high. I've just read someone refer to the bluesbreaker as and I quote "not a players amp". A bluesbreaker not a players amp, but a collectors amp. See what I mean about bullshit mythology? It's one of the most badass players amps of all time, but these rich fuckers need to justify their decadence in their purchase as their "collectors" amp sits and collects dust. Fucking sad.

I hate to burst this big hupla bubble, but it doesn't sound any better than my twin reverb.Or maybe I am in denial. I don't care HOW close the NEW parts are it's still a reissue. NOT the real deal. It seems to me that this amp is more of a "Look at what I've got" trophy amp. There is one more important fact. It won't help you play any better that you do. It can be inspiring to make you play more so you should play better. I think you would be an oxy moron to take this amp to a gig. One spilled beer and there goes a ton of coin down the drain. Anyway, the crowd could care less what you play through as long as it sound good. Rock on!

Doctor Who Fan The first part of your comment has truth to it. But you know nothing about my original twin. I bought it from a old fellow who lived in a trailer for 1100 bucks ten years ago. I think you would know how it sounds. It starts to break up around 5. No, let's not call it break up. The notes just sail with sweet smooth sustain. Nothing sounds like the real deal. I know friends that own R8's, R'9's. They sound great. Yes, they are replicas of the originals BUT they still NEW guitars. Refer to rule one, and rock on!

Marshall are up to their old tricks.....Sounds like Marketing hype to my ears.......pay a LOT of money for what exactly? - Kinda like putting lipstick on a pig....don't fall for the "exclusive" or "special" rap from the Salesmen....yes folks...they are salesmen...first and foremost.... They want to SELL you this amp....the funny thing is that none of them know what to do with it....except twiddle their knobs and look perplexed. Metropolis amps rule when it comes to reissues of great Marshalls if you want the real thing.

No it's not wrong to be a Marshall salesman, Marshall have really improved over the last few years and thank god they are still made in England. This clip is doing Marshall a disservice IMHO, I was just pointing out marketing hype. Plus these demonstrators haven't got a clue as to the merits of this amp IF it is original spec. Clapton used this design amp yes, but he also used a special pedal along with it. Anyone who knows Marshall amps knows that the really great ones were a mix of whatever components were available at the time. JM chopped and changed his component suppiers based on availability on the day from his shop in Charing Cross Road in the sixties. There are anorak amp specialists out there who have replicated prime examples of that golden era of Marshall when tone was random by sourcing the EXACT components. I mentioned one the best examples of this and you allude to me advertising for them? Wrong! Tone heads can save a shedload of cash by avoiding the hype and exploring further.

"Don't fall for the "exclusive" or "special" rap from the Salesmen....yes folks...they are salesmen...first and foremost.... They want to SELL you this amp." Absolutely. Both are corporate shills earning a living - and thus their assessment of music gear should be deemed questionable at all times.
