It does metal very well especially when pedals are added. It is a "flat" amp, pre amp pedals and overdrives can take it very far. This amp is easily one of my favorites. The only downside to it, the gain has to be completely cranked with the volume to get the amp to distort without a pedal. I've noticed keeping my amp gain on 5 and pumping my pedal gain up gives me the best tone.

Some of that might be coming from the early breakup of the greenback speaker . That is one of the reasons why it was so popular in the early days . The breakup of greenbacks can be quite gritty . I have always preferred heavy magnet spelera . For vintage I prefer g12h30 and for modern a higher wattage H speaker like a vintage 30 or g12h cralback . I have never thought much of the g12m25 greenback vintage 30 pairing. The v30 and g12h pairings always sound more tight and defined to my ears. V30 paited with a greenback has too much grit for mu taste.

I use the Friedman BE-OD Deluxe for high gain bliss. I have also found that by using the Orange Terror Stamp into the return on the Origin it's essentially a 50 watt Dark Terror voicing. You should try a Metal Zone as a boost. Volume at 100%, Distortion at 0% and start with all the other knobs at noon. The MZ as a boost is fantastic for amps that almost have enough gain for metal on their own but are lacking. You can even stack a TS as well if you need to boost mids and cut out the low end. An EQ pedal before the MZ could be used as well.

There is just this special feel you get with tube amps, like a good Marshall or Fender, that's simply unbeatable. The reason I don't like most Boogies, like the Mark III, IV and V and Rectos is how stiff and compressed they sound. They seem to counteract the very thing that makes them tick in the first place. They don't have that great chewiness you get with a good British amp. I tried a Dumble Overdrive Special back in '87. These amps are legendy for several reasons. They're very rare, so they cost an absolute fortune. But I plugged into this thing with an LP standard and I could hear pure tube magic all the way. The clarity and feel, even at very high volume, was magnificent. Only the best amps can do this, remain musical and ear bleeding volumes. See, with tubes you've got to work them to get the magic. Get the power tubes cooking, then hit them with a good fuzz pedal, and it's magic, especially if you have good pickups like EMGs. But you don't need to spend a million bucks to do it. It's never been easier to get a great rig at such a bargain.

Definitely a big fan of Marshalls and 5150s. Can't say I've ever used a Dumble! Sounds like a great amp.
@angusorvid8840
@angusorvid8840 3 жыл бұрын
@@bvanhoosen They are great amps. Not exactly metal, although companies like Amplifonix are designing amps that run the gamut from Dumble to ultra high gain Dumble. The 5150 borrowed a lot from the Soldano SLO 100, which is what Eddie used to record For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge. The thing is, companies like Soldano are not known for paying endorsers. It's just not in their business model or budget. And I don't know what's going on with Peavey. They don't make anything in America anymore and it doesn't seem like they're really in the game these days. At least we still have Marshalls. Yeah, made in England. But still great.

your comments on what the the tilt knob and gain boost function as, is flipflopped. the gain boost is just a simple db- gain boost for leads or to saturate the preamp a bit more, and the tilt, is a blend knob between the normal and high treble modes, an "internally wired" patch cable between the signature plexi input channels so to speak. all the way left is purely normal mode, and cranked right is 100 percent. "high treble". regardless, great video, and i bought my origin 50 for the same exact reasons and it only made my Marshall itch even worse...

@@bvanhoosen no worries, haha I only know myself after thoroughly reading up on the Origin after a buddy of mine bought one a couple years ago. When I found out that it wasn't just some new age Marshall take on a competitors circuit and that it was a modernized and a budget take on the multitudes of Plexi circuits that really only sound their best when cranked. I love power tube distortion and the origin has it in spades. I'm glad to see others are grasping the possibilities in what this amp is able to do. I love it's Kill 'em All vibe, heavy metal & thrash metal before the concept of preamp tube overdrive became the basis of most metal tones. Amps so loud, with harmonics for days, and so much sustain that a Floyd rose might gag on it 😅😂🤣. Keep it up man, I look forward to the possibility of a video revisit.

You’ll have some swelling after getting tattooed, so it makes it a little uncomfortable until that goes down. Nothing permanent though. The rest of the question I’m not sure I understand. It goes down to 4 ohms, so you can do 2 cabs of 8 ohms or 4 cabs of 16 ohms.

A Marshall Origin with a good distortion pedal like a Rat or a JHS AT+ sounds far superior to the onboard gain of a DSL. Most classic Marshall tones are NOT modded but rather a Marshall boosted with a good pedal and mic'd up right. You listen to those classic VH, Dokken and Ratt hair metal tones and that's how they got them. In fact, Warren played an 18 Watt Fender Super Champ (Rivera era) on Ratt's first album, Out of the Cellar. At least for solos.

I was ,at that time, looking for convenience. No lugging around or trying to find the best peddles to buy to get more versatility out of it. Lazy really. Plus I traded it on a sweet guitar. Nicholas Da Ronch I actually disagree, I think the thing to watch out for with this amp is the super round bass response it has. That high end is important when it comes to staying tight in a mix. Haven’t put together a song with it yet, but that’ll be my next task.
