I love your reviews. As an owner of Origin 50H, I can definitely confirm it is loud as f$%k and has far more volume than I will ever need. However, it has a power reduction switch which really does a great job so the amp can be pushed hard at lower volumes. Personally, I think the Origin 50H is a great amp that provides far more in terms of sound than what is worth for its price tag. To have a full-sized EL34 head with effects loop and Marshall label under 600 euros is a case that is very difficult to beat. However, in reviews, I think there is a big injustice made to these amps because they are often perceived as a "poor man's plexi" and somewhat expected to perform as 2000 $+ boutique Marshall heads and are judged through these lenses. I think it is fair to say that Origin is Origin and Plexi is a Plexi. Origin has its own thing going and is a Marshall amp on its own...nowhere did Marshall officially state that this is budget plexi or made comparisons like that. It should be valued for what it is and not for what it is perceived it could or should be. Just my 2 cents. Great review as always, Elmo! ;-)

@rocknroll1973 When I had it built, my tech added the split cathode and bright cap push/pull, as well as a tube/SS rectifier switch. The later Black Flags were SS rectified and I wanted the other two things to tighten the bass up a bit in order for the amp to cover more ground. What I meant about the vintage spec trannies was that my JTM50 was built as a clone and when sourcing the transformers I found a couple that are built to the old Drake specs. I also got NOS preamp tubes, including a 60's Mullard for V1. The thing just sings!

In live performance on big stages, the sound engineer if the amps are going to be at high volumes, he adjusts the volume according to the tone that the guitarist is looking for at a specific volume and places the amps far and away from the stage. in order to be able to make the mix on the stage monitors and the sound that comes out to the public. The Plexi is a personal favourite of mine (my custom built 69 Plexi is so awesome) and it has that fatness, girth and fullness. To my ears the bass gets a little loose on that amp. The origin is a real surprise. Not as fat sounding, but low end of tighter, and there is more pronounced high freqs which causes that slight fizz. I kinda preferred it for the Malmsteen rhythms - sound3d tighter - lead tones both cool but Plexi takes it for its fullness. Have an awesome day.

Hi Elmo, I bought an Origin 50h. I've owned just about every classic Marshall model worth owning, and I noticed that fizziness too, but I figured out how to get rid of that. The origin seems to work much more like a plexi if you drive the back end a little harder than the front. Also the tone controls are alot more sensitive, and have more range that a plexi. So here is my formula- Master- 9 Presence-1 Treble- 3 Middle -3 Bass-3 Preamp-8 Tilt- 6 Boost- off It is also worth mentioning that the Powerstream power scaling works great. Those setting work great across all power settings. Also the cabinets I'm using are a Marshall 1960AHW, and a Marshall 425B Vintage/ Modern.

Hi Elmo, here is an update on my Origin 50h. I had it for less than 45 days, and smoked the output transformer! Luckily I had 4 days left to return it. The budget plexi to go with is the Bugera 1960 Infinium. I've owned one for several years, and never had any issues. Also it is without a dought one of the best sounding, feature rich amps I have ever owned regardless of cost! My only recommendation with the 1960 is make sure your speakers can handle the power. 150 watts RMS is a conservative rating. It is louder than my Major!

Hey Elmo, great video and awesome playing! Thinking about getting an Origin 50, looking for that Plexi thing , pushing power amps versus high gain pre amp, and hoping to ad it alongside my DSL100HR. Does the do that and is it a keeper for you? I found the DSL od 1 and 2 channels unable to handle the Malmsteen overdrive with a Malmsteen strat like you experienced in the DSL 20 video. How does the Origin react? Thank you!
@MrPolevaulter4 жыл бұрын
The Origin handled it fairly well, but at high volumes it got a bit weird. I didn't understand a part of your question. Is which amp a keeper?
@X9Eric4 жыл бұрын
@@MrPolevaulter thank you for getting back to me! Sorry, my question is were you impressed enough with the Origin 50 to keep it?
@MrPolevaulter4 жыл бұрын
@@X9Eric No. I already had two Plexis, so the Origin had to go.

Thought they both sounded great. 😀 I prefered the Marshall..😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 120 db. Yikes. 😂 My ears. 😂 I used to shoot machine guns without ear protection back in the 70s working for an ammunition company, but back then people would say it wasn't permanently damiging. Of course. They were soooo wrong. Huh? 😂 What ya say? Is my most repeated phrase the last few years. 😂 Sounded pretty good to me.. I want to see you do a demo of your axefx vs the plexi and see if you can get a really close match...

I liked the Origin just as much as the other amps. Your comments though are nothing but cork sniffing. A lot of people do wonderful things with the amp.

Hi Elmo!! I’m planning to buy a origin 50h. How loud is it (db)? Is it clearly listenable in a middle of a jam with a drum, a bass and another guitar?

More than loud enough. I measured 120db when I made the video.

Great Demo as always! I bought a slightly blemished floor model of the Origin 50H and got a great deal on it, mainly bought as a backup for my Studio Vintage 20H. You said you didn't think the Origin 20 would be able to hang with the band your in, how does that compare to the SV20H as far volume is concerned?
@MrPolevaulter5 жыл бұрын
Never compared the two, so I'm not sure. Maybe the SV20 was a tad louder, or at least handled high volumes better.

how much is labour in vietnam,and then in england,an id like to see someone diassect all the parts in the plexi,an the origin, of course england is noted for taxes,an they get paid way more than the probable 2 or 3 dollars an hour which is probably what vietnamese get, my 50 watt origin head,done went bad,an was oscillating,an now my mini jubilee at over 1300.00 dam dollars is not right eighther as i wait on them to give me a refund....i love the looks,an i have a 93 model,...1987x plexi reissue im afraid of,it sounds way incredible,an will bring the house down,an there around 2000.00 used or more.....made in england.
