I love mine. When I got it, I played it without really dialing it in, and it sounded really thin. It was to the extent I felt like I made a mistake. It's been almost a year now, and I must say, I LOVE it. Most of the negative comments I've heard about it seem to be from people who "tried one out and didn't like it". You really have to dial it in to find your own personal sweet spot. Pedals help because you only have one clean channel (with a gain boost). I run any combination of the clean channel with the gain boost, a TS808 and a BE-OD. That combination gets me pretty close to the versatility of say a DSL40. While the DSL40 "has it all" in one package, this is more stripped down for those who want total control of crafting their own sound from scratch. 🤘😎

If you use a Marshall power break and turn the amp on 10, it will drastically increase the gain. It’s a master volume “sort of”. I was surprised how much gain this amp actually has when it’s cranked. It makes a great pedal platform too. I use mine with a KOT and I use one side for strats and the other for humbuckers.

If thats your goal go for the DSl HR series that came out right before the Origin 50. Most people on the Marshall Forum who have owned both will tell you the DSL kills the origin and can do everything the origin can x 100. I bought the DSL100HR right when they were released like whiten the first month or two at most and ive never been so happy with an amp in my life. It does everything. Before i bought it i was wondering if i should wait for the Origin to release, for once in my life my impatience paid off lol. Every channel is incredibly versatile and all are immediatly usable but get so much better the longer you play through them and learn how to manipulated them just right. The channels are Clean or Crunch on the Classic Channel, and OD1 and OD2 On the Ultra Channel. I can get so many inspirational tones out of the DSL100HR and 2 orange 1x12 (spaced about 5/6 ft. apart) and the few tones that arent right on the money can be taken there with a pedal (it takes pedals really well). I cant speak for the other sizes other than the 100W head which is what i have and the 40W Combo (dont own one but have played through a couple and they are great also, a tiny less versatile but it makes up for it in convenience). But if the smaller versions are anything like the bigger ones they are a great investment. The Origin on the other hand IS NOT FOR SOMEONE WHO ONLY PLANS TO OWN ONE OR TWO AMPS! Sure it does some cool vintage Marshall tones but it seriously leaves you wanting more. I would only recommend an Origin to someone like Leon who has a tone of amps and just want another flavor. But if you want a Marshall amp that wont limit you its the DSL HR. Just my 2 cents. Play both cause some moron is gonna chime in and tell you that his Origin is better but its just not the case if your only using one amp 90% of the time like I do and a lot of other guitar players do. Dont take my word for it but do go play both if you plan to buy one.

Just recently ran across your review here. IMNSHO, this is the way to do an amp review. Off the cuff and spontaneous but also done with a fine player that knows his gear. I've been thinking about buying one of these Origin 50 heads. This is the very first review that made me actually want one. Good job, Leon!! Two Thumbs Up!! 👍👍

Picked one of these up off the back of this review. It's definitely the kind of amp you have to tweak a bit as the tilt setting is super sensitive but it feels like a bit of a hidden gem given you can pick the 50h up for £350 in the UK right now. It's awesome for pedals too and still retains its Marshallish character while letting the pedals come through. Great impressions video 👌

Wow that gain was monstrous! Congrats for heaviest origin tone on planet Leon... Unbelievably fast dial too. Hope to see normalization of volume for power scaling in future videos and 57 mic. Amp is based on jtm blackflag the one super clean amp with fender style ss tube rectifier. It's not typical jtm tone a bit too clean. Origin vs blackflag would be very interesting comparison. Malcolm Young used blackflag on black ice tour. A bit too clean. Search black ice river plate live video to get nice tone example.

@aaronhuffstedtler418
@aaronhuffstedtler418 3 жыл бұрын
The brightness can be tamed 3 ways with the origin,.... the tilt, presence, and treble. Anything else is from the guitar or inline eq or compressor/gate if you have it in your chain. You just have to play with it a bit. I run my treble, bass, and mid pegged full, my tilt around 6, presence between 3 and 4, gain pegged full but not pulled, master at 8, with a JHS Little Black Box at 25% , and this gives a nice warm sound with enough bright and mid to cut through the mix, without the spiky icepicks in your ears.

I am in the same boat. I am sure it is obvious to you, but one issue besides the price is that the studio heads are just 20W, and I have the impression that they do not give you that clear clean tone that the Origin does. Definitely not as much headroom. I am going to try and compare the origin 50H to the SV20 and then maybe an Orange CR120H.

Don't know what's going on here but, there's a frequency in there that's not playing well with the others. I don't know if its something that has to do with the translation from the mic to the video recording or what. To my ear, its in the upper section of the mid range and it reminds me of stones rattling in a tin can. Its present with all the guitars that were used and especially prominent with the Fender. The first guitar actually sounded like it had a slight intonation issue with the G or B strings.

You mention early on that it sounds "firm" and I think that's what I don't like about it. This thing sounds almost like an Orange to me, more than a Marshall.

Mate, that sounded very AC/DC at the intro with the humbuckers but pretty thin with the strat. Sounded a bit better when you put on the overdrive to kick it in the guts. It's been on the radar for a little while now, but haven't demo'ed one myself yet. It's on the cards for this year. Nice demo

Great amp and great playing. That beastie sounds so good. I love effects, but really, with an amp like that you're pretty much set. It can do everything short of death metal, although it gets pretty close, especially with an overdrive pedal. Gotta save my pennies............

fully sick mate...out of th box! have lined up that head , gunna get thcheap 212 box and put some greenbacks in that..just gotta put a few bux together and lay it down...thankyou for playin drop d ..me too..it will go great with zoom g3n effects(so many effects all adjustable and twenty versions of a different pedal board in one floor tuner)but likely ill run it mostly au naturale , wont need a noise gate yay, even though zoom started out making pro noisegates, it still robs the goodness abit...

Are current models improved on as time goes on ? Meaning putting in upgraded electronic parts that went bad in older models. I just got one and I like in a lot.

Seems like the sound you're looking for is not in that amp! This is more like a jtm45 just on the brake up, if you're looking for more gain go with dsl

Nice demo of the amp! I am thinking of getting one. Have you tried an mxr distortion plus in one? Do you think you would be able to get a Randy Rhoads type tone out of one?

Sounds awesome! Considering just the head, do you think Origin 5 would sound mutch different through that cab? Cheers from Portugal 🍺🤘🇵🇹🎄

Hit the front with an Exotic EP Booster ( set about 9 O'clock ) to tame some of those highs. I have the 20 watt head and if I didn't use the EP Booster the amp is a little anemic. Adds more warmth without getting muddy. Here is a demo I did with mine. Just a phone for vid and audio. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jX-wY4J9hZhonc0

I saw those at NAMM early this year, but didn't get to play one. They have some really nice sounds built into those.

I've seen at least one other person do some tones on an Origin...get the Plexi tone without the Plexi price. Would love to see what you do with it. Ask them to hook you up with a Jubilee while they're at it. That could use some love as well. ;-)

Killer mini demo! Really sounds like a more expensive Marshall! Thing is, it's NOT for bedroom players since unlike most master volume Marshalls, lowering the master lowers the gain.

Martin Pees if you cranck the Master to 6, it's still stupidly loud, even in low watt settings
