Could you do a video on rod and reel setups? Best for the money? Middle of the road? Best you can buy?

Idk about other companies but Shimano has a tutorial on setting up the baitcasters in their manual, once you read that it’s just practice practice practice.

Man I feel sorry for Justin, that dude has taken some abuse in the MMM Videos! 😂😂😂 Cracks me up! Besides braided line in place of split rings in lures, so you ever modify them with different hooks? Maybe changing to a lighter or heavier hook, to tweak the fall rate, or cast ability of the bait. I use spinning gear quite a bit for 2 reason. It’s so much better for casting distance on lighter lures, or lures like jerk baits that have a bill. and after palming a casting reel working hard plastics, my wrist and forearm appreciate the change of grip.

Hey Todd, I fish in NC and fish tend to really respond well to suspending jerk baits “down current” and I think it is because on the pause the current allows that bait to sit in front of them but the current makes the bait wobble in place.
@MarshManMasson Жыл бұрын
You're probably right. I do the same thing with paddletail jigs. I love to fish them downcurrent. Thanks for watching from the Tar Heel State. I spent 18 years as editor of North Carolina Sportsman, so I did a good amount of fishing up there, particularly around Wrightsville Beach and New Bern.

@@MarshManMasson appreciate the info and I am in Northeast NC as well. I have noticed the down current trend as well lately. Makes the bait dance for sure. I found this out more by chance just fighting the winds lately but hey it works!

Also thought about it, that gives the fish the ambush direction from the back instead of head on.

Todd, awesome day on some very nice trout! Todd, what is your favorite jerk bait and size or length and color? The bio minnow you fished today looked to be 4”to maybe 4.5”do you prefer that length or something shorter? I love your videos and respect your opinion on tackle and fishin in general, you’re always trying to teach and share your knowledge! Thanks so much and keep up the good work

0% of large trout that die can grow to be very large. Also, larger sow trout produce substantially more eggs than their smaller counterpart. i.e. CONSERVATION.

What do you feel the advantages are to throwing jerkbaits on casting vs spinning? I usually throw them on spinning set ups incase I want to go with a lighter bait into the wind. You have been tearing up the trout this winter!
@MarshManMasson Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's really just personal preference. Justin's two trips prior to this one were on windy days, so he rigged the MirrOlip on spinning gear. In general, I just feel more comfortable working hard-plastics with casting gear.

I've heard because of the diversions being built most of south Louisiana fisheries will be destroyed because the fresh water will ruin the salinity. What's your thoughts on this?
@MarshManMasson Жыл бұрын
Absolute nonsense. It will make fishing considerably tougher in the immediate outfall areas, and that's where critics typically focus, but this place was built by annual flooding of the Mississippi River that inundated the marshes with fresh water. Speckled trout weren't anywhere near the Mississippi River during the springtime centuries ago. They'd migrate out to suitable spawning grounds and absolutely invade the marshes during the fall and winter when the river was low. That's the natural cycle. We got used to the marshes being in an unnatural state, which allowed speckled trout to be close in 12 months a year, but at the deleterious expense of the very marshes that support them. Diversions will certainly change our fisheries but absolutely will not destroy them. As it stands now, I seek out marshes that have freshwater influence because I love their productivity and diversity.
