When it comes to fishing, there are certain places that are as seasonally dependable as Lloyd Christmas' salmon returning to Capistrano. One is the train trestle that spans eastern Lake Pontchartrain in South Louisiana.
In the spring and fall, big speckled trout meet up there with flounder, redfish, black drum and blue cats to feast on bait being forced by the current around the bridge stanchions. By April and May, word is always out, and the bridge is more crowded than a Mardi Gras parade.
But in March, the early birds can often have a significant length of the track to themselves.
That was the case for me on my most recent trip. Check out the video for all the details!

My best catch and cook was a summer evening at Elmer’s island, we were in the surf catching specks and throwing them on the beach with a buddy cleaning them right then and we had a Cajun cooker hot and ready. We truly are blessed to have such a privilege to be able to enjoy whenever we choose here in our beautiful marshes. We should NEVER take this for granted.

18:46 there’s only two ways to make that better Todd take my word on the first one you got a try it do everything the same and use a little Italian dressing. I prefer the Olive Garden brand it taste awesome. The second thing I say could make it better, obviously is if I was there.😂 great video, you have a good week.

We need to make a huge effort to replant cypress trees and other native plants and trees around the lake . Very old maps of the area have the Slidell are to Lacombe marked as the high banks . Nothing high about them now .

Tried the tchefuncte this past Sunday for some sacalait using your techniques and it was a rough 6 hours 😂😂 no sacalait but a few nice bluegill. It rained Friday but the water was still pretty clean, we talked to most people out there and nobody could find them. Any idea what makes the tchefuncte sacalait not bite when conditions seem good.

I’m not Tod but he could have launched at “The Point” at the end of Lakefront Drive aka Rat’s nest Road, next to “Blue Crab Restaurant” or a small launch on Hwy. 11 in Irish Bayou on the New Orleans end of Hwy. 11 bridge. As far as suggestions, I believe it depends on conditions. (My 2 cents)

You never float fish with a rubber band? If there's heavy current your selling yourself short. Find the average depth near that bridge your fishing. Get a large line thru cork . Put the cork on first then 1/2 Oz. Egg sinker tied off to a swivel then a short leader to hook. Adjust that rubber band where your shrimp will float just a foot or so off the bottom

9:33 i’m more worried about you the future of the fishery, considering air products running those underground pipes and storing carbon dioxide in Lake Maurepas when they have a leak a spill or an irruption it’s going to kill a lot of marine life that’s dependent on that oxygen that will no longer be present. I’m no scientist, but my common sense tells me that’s going to be an issue for sure for our children if not for us.
@quisedawg1914
@quisedawg1914 4 ай бұрын
That’s because people were keeping too many fish at a small size, the increase in length minimum will help but it was waaay too much pressure put on the trout.
