Marss' Joker is DIFFERENT

This was Marss’ first showing where I felt like he had a Joker. Before, he was just a top player, playing Joker. Now his Joker is refined and he is actually doing shit with him. I think it came from him figuring out how to use gun, because that’s the move that really pulls Joker’s kit together.

More people should talk about this. It seems very unfair for Joker gun to be a disjointed hitbox thats not a projectile. Every other character has a projectile that can be reflected, but joker gets special treatment for some reason

im glad u started off talking about gun/side b, i feel like that zoning/midrange stuff is what is lacking in jokers other than mkleo. The rest of joker's kit is pretty standard and most top players can use his normals and movement pretty well so I feel like gun and side b usage is where you focus to really make him broken

Esam goes on to say how it's impressive how precise you need to be for ZSS, but that's like most top tiers in this game, lol. A lot of the top amazing characters on the roster take a lot of focus to actually pull off and I feel like that's something most people don't even realize half the time. It's one of those qualities that make certain characters feel exhausting to play as and I bet it feels so good to just play characters where precision isn't the goal. It's kinda easy to see how Leo went to Byleth and Marss is trying Joker.

Your right, but he’s talking ab even compared to other top tiers. Joker is precise, but in regards to things like ledehtrapping, zss is much more. Sure every top tier is “precise” at a top level, but zss requires so much more precision at that level, compared to a precise but slightly less precise character like joker.

The first half was saying a point that I feel like most people don't realize, and then the 2nd half was saying I understand how some players would switch from their more precise character to a fairly less precise character. My point wasn't that all top tiers are precise, but that most of the top cast are hard to play at a top level, and going to an easier character must feel pretty good.

Joker and zss can play very annoyingly, yet people seem to love them and hate steve and characters like him. People have weird values with what they find hype. I think people don't realize how passive fast characters play with them poking you outside of your threat bubble, and how technical camping can be with the mind games involved in keeping stage control and snuffing out different options.

What’s crazy is that Joker players don’t really do footstool gun that often. And that is his most important tech imo. It’s kinda like how Steve players don’t do nil ladders that often in bracket despite it being Steve’s most important tech. Joker and Steve are both really bullshit dlc characters. Marss played amazingly tho!

tl;dr - As a Joker player, yes it's a good option, but learning it is really difficult and applying it in a real match is even more difficult. There's a reason you really only see it in training mode or friendlies. fs (footstool) out of shield is really difficult to practice, and grounded fs in other situations isn't really an option. Plus, the inputs are frame perfect; if the down gun comes out one frame too slow, they can shield. Plus, the right things to do at each percent on each character vary wildly. For some characters you need to sh fs, some need fh fs, at lower percents you have to drift differently than mid and that's different from high, followups change... for some characters, it even matters which direction they're facing because of hurtbox shifting stuff. But, yes, if mastered, it's a powerful tool. Learning it and consistently executing it, however, requires a lot of time on top of what it already takes to play Joker well, and for most Jokers their time is better spent improving some other aspect of their game.
