I haven't trained in Aikido for a while. It's amazing how much one can still retain, but it's also startling how much one forgets, this ukemi is a good example of what I've forgotten. The energy of this fall doesn't go into the mat, instead it goes full circle! Very nice! Thanks for the tutorial.

The wave recognises itself as the ocean. A beautiful example in my humble opinion. :)

Beautiful! So easy to forget how Aikido is poetry in and of motion. You say you take requests for videos. I would like to see a whole beginner's series on proper technique for break/slap falls. I personally was never taught properly when I started and it took me forever to get them right. I am sure there are others that would love to see your methods. Also, to slap out or not? I have read many articles debating teaching it for various reasons...say if you had a weapon, or item, etc. in your hand.

+Barda Wulf Poetry it is. That's a great request Barda. I'll do my best to film it in the next week. I'll try to cover different methods, both using the slap and not, and more. Until then, you can also try and check our already made tutorial for soft high falls kzbin.info/www/bejne/mmOqo6ainqlnqLMm28s . It might already give a good start! Sincerely, RL

+Barda Wulf Hey, the video about different types of Ukemi is out already. You can find it in this link: bit.ly/1F67LfK . I hope it will bring benefit. Let me know what you think. Also, you've mentioned you would like a series on proper technique for break/slap falls. I have the tutorial for soft high falls: bit.ly/1KvH9Fi . Does it cover what you are interested in? Or did you have a different video in mind?

Many thanks for attending my request! really nice and very useful video! please correct me if I am wrong but basically is the same as a supported fall but with a "small" jump? (btw without the jump or with a low intensity one, the head bump in the mat or the fall just happens closer to the mat?) Thanks again!
@MartialArtsJourney9 жыл бұрын
+Willy Krawczyk You are almost right, Willy. Although as you jump it's important to bring the core of the body inside (under the legs), otherwise the head bump which you speak of can happen, and the hand will also not reach the mat in time. In other words, it's important to roll over yourself in the air. I hope it's understandable how I explain. Let me know if not.

the most difficult for me is the fear ... with support I can do ukemi , but alone I am still looking for courage. haha

It does take quite something! Well, one way to dissolve some fear is to use a big mattress... :)

My senior student (who's in the video) who does this really well, as far as I remember, he did practice a lot with a big mattress, which we luckily have in the Dojo :)

Fear.. Hmm.. Yes.. That thorn in the side! False emotion appearing real.. Your mind playing tricks on you, doubt you'll not be injured, right?! From personal experience as a 7th Kyu, a second of doubt during mid flight of diving over 3 people and I landed badly injuring myself. Why did this occur? Because I sacrificed the moment for concern over my physical well being. A thought just occurred to me as last class I was paired up with a 3rd and 2nd Kyu to practice yoko ukemi. I performed 4 and received positive feedback. After the first attempt I paused and i thought of the wave realising it's actually the ocean (following what Steve Sensei spoke of to offer advice) that helped for me. Essentially you change your mind. Alter how your mind interprets the mat and what it is your about to do. That way, its possible to relieve yourself of the pressure your putting on yourself. What's is there to be afraid of? Your on a space ship spinning through space at a ridiculous speed. Then compare that with the Ukemi lol ;) ;) I hope this helped some how and you find success (failure spawns success)
