This is amazing. There is much grace in your movements. I'm watching these videos to improve my rolling skills when I fall from my skate - to try to minimise the chances of injury. As a matter of fact, seeing the ease of movement you have, it made me consider undertaking aikido classes not only to improve my falling skills, but to improve my overall body/mind balance, ultimately so I can become a better, more relaxed and graceful skater! Thank you so much for the inspiration!

You are an excellent instructor. I just began Aikido training and my partners did not instruct me to do the falls in a simple to advanced movement. I pulled my shoulder ligament due to trying the fall in a advanced movement that I was not ready for. Thank you so simplifying it for me.

I took Aikido in high school (after school. Wasn't an elective), and learning to roll properly has actually saved my ass a bunch of times. There have been a few times in my life I would have taken some nasty spills if I hadn't learned to roll properly. Doing it enough so it becomes instinctual is definitely a good skill to have.

I really enjoy your teaching methodology. I learned ukemi largely by incessant repetition in a traditional dojo, and while that made my ukemi very solid, seeing a good progressive teaching method makes it much easier to help pass on the skills.

Thank you, I still can't flow with the roll since I still smack the floor with my elbow, or head, or big toe, or just random parts of my body, but it's getting there. Just got back into practicing ukemi and although my technique is correct I was too stiff so it always hurt my shoulder this past year. (I just thought of retraining ukemi on my own. No teacher needed since I was taught Aikido/Daito Ryu 5 years ago). I guess it's very important to have a relaxed body.

Hi there, Im wondering what the differences, if any, between the various styles of Aikido. I have practised for a few years in Ki Aikido. As I moved to another part of the country I could not find a Ki Aikido teacher in the area so I tried a couple of different forms but when I told them I did Ki Aikido, they seemed not to like it. Do you have any idea why this is? I thought it might be to do with the fact they all know eachother from the old days and have some disagreements on technique. Your Aikido is very beautiful, I have been trying the backwards roll trying to be graceful and controlled like you. Thanyou for your posts, they are very helpful.

Thanks. Aikido is sometimes in a bit of a mess... Despite being the Art of Peace, many Dojos and styles are not going along together. It many times depends not only on style, but mainly on the teacher and how he introduces his style, although obviously there are influences from tradition too. Many a times instructors who do very gentle, energetic techniques and exercises and stress flow, will be dissatisfied with ones who do quick, rough, painful techniques and vice versa. We could also go into history and details of this, but you can see the image here :)
@sweeetly

Yes thank you, it seems so. A new club opened here just yesterday, traditional Aikido, they were very open and seemed unconcerned by my previous time in Ki Aikido. :) I must say though I found Ki Aikido to be truely remarkable. Thanks again

@MartialArtsJourney
@MartialArtsJourney 7 жыл бұрын
First - don't rush, let the body settle after every roll. Then it helps if you do your best to watch at a single point (direction) as long as possible, without causing trouble to your rolls. Last, but not least, it takes some practice, the body slowly get's used to it too :)
