I actually don’t like to have just one consistent way in which I assign aspirations. I think it’s perfectly realistic to want to get laid/be popular and being shy etc. Also, I like changing the aspirations a little in Uni or at some other points in the Sim’s life. I can decide that it fits the story that a certain Sim flipped their ideas around because of some major event.

same here, in my game don lotharo had an alien baby, and all though using my system, she would be fortune, I had an idea of her as a character so I ignored what i normally would have done. I made her a family/romance sim, because in my mind, she wants to be different than her dad, but some of his habits rubbed off on her

Interesting a very playful Sim who would like to master all the skills (but it looks like a player... play the game, achieve all the achievements, love all sorts of secrets)😅 Serious who want be popular, go to the party, or... Pleasure? Grouchy and outgoing - popular... Sounds like toxic friend 😅

In my rotational save, I had a born in-game Sim who almost had 5 for all traits (6 in neat) and I had no idea what aspiration to give her, but since almost everyone her age brought her home from school, I gave her the popularity aspiration cause she had many friendships to maintain. That one extra neat point also gave her science as her predestined hobby, so a science-enthusiast popularity Sim was pretty new to me, which is cool.

I used to have a system where right before they became teenagers, I would look at interests and personality to decide it. I wish I wrote it down because I don’t quite remember it now. But it was based on things like high interest in things like politics or crime, would be points towards Fortune, but a playful personality might push it towards something else. I might sit down at some like point and work through it again, because I loved my system and felt I did a great job at capturing who my sims were.

when I was little I didn't think about it much and I just chose it randomly (although most of the time I chose the romance aspiration because I liked its symbol) Then I didn't understand why my sims had a bad memory when they got married xD

It's really interesting how everybody has a different interpretation of traits and aspirations. For example for me, knowledge aspiration and fortune aspiration would be swapped - knowledge and nerdiness for me are connected with being playful, with playing with the world around you and experiencing it to its full potential, as well as playing with and challenging systems. Fortune on the other hand is a very serious goal, I cannot see a manager of a company or just a fortune strived sim/person to be much playful since it requires a lot of discipline and dedication. But as you've tackled the idea of the vibe of one sim - it can be very wobbly line between these too. Really interesting to see a mirrored view to mine :d

I feel like it's really all up to interpretation. Someone like Tank or General Buzz Grunt can still be popularity sims despite being mean because well... Tank was abused. And Buzz probably just wants status (I believe when you calculate his secondary aspiration using Pleasant Sims method he has a secondary fortune aspiration so it makes even more sense)

Tank isn't even mean though! He's got 5 nice points he's just been conditioned to be a bully. Tybalt Capp on the other hand is a truly bitchy popularity sim, but I think the idea is that you can be mean and still popular if you play your cards right.

I love seeing how other people determine things like this! I used to use a Secondary Aspiration calculator but didn't like how all sims with similar interests ended up being the same aspiration every time. I would never have two Knowledge sims who butt heads then who disagree on the best method to go about science for example, like the Curious Brothers vs. The Beaker's. I also would never have shy Popularity sims like Lilith Pleasant who grew up lonely and just wants to be liked but doesn't fit in to the standard, or John Mole like you said, who is an outsider looking in who wants to understand people better to maybe fit in better himself. I like my sims to sometimes have unrealistic aspirations which may pose a challenge to them to fulfill those wants, but they have to step out of their comfort zones to achieve what they really want, even if it isn't easy for them. For example, Lilith being grouchy and shy, has a close knit group of friends she adores and confides in, while she's normally hostile to new people. She takes longer to warm up to people than her sister, but she has deeper relationships and spends more time/rolls more wants for the friends she does have, vs. Angela who always just wants more and more and ignores her old ones. They both want to be popular, but in different ways and for different reasons. So I've considered using a system like yours but decided to go with a dice roll so I can end up with all sorts of sims who may or may not get along regardless of aspiration. You may have two romance sims who don't get along because they're fighting for the same territory and see each other as a threat, or you may have two who are best friends and live together because they've bonded over their lifestyles, it all comes down to their personality and interests then. I've also changed Hobbies to be based off what interest the sim has the highest points in (Food, Scifi, Health, etc.) to determine One True Hobby rather than all sloppy nice sims being artists. Where are my cleaning obsessed perfectionist grumpy artists? Or my shy but talented guitarists who need their outgoing friend to push them onto the stage? I find basing everything off of Personality and Interests makes things much more predictable over time.

i don’t really have a system, i just kinda pick whatever, even if the personality traits don’t typically align. i feel like it’s human for your wants and how you are as a person to conflict. adds realism!!!!!

i always just roll a dice bc i think its fun to have a sim with a totally mismatched personality and aspiration, and i also reroll when theyre in college and the game gives the option. i also use the same method for turn ons since there are 6 pages with 6 options each so it works perfectly with a d6

I once gave a sim the grilled cheese secondary aspiration to simulate a mental breakdown after he got his kids taken away for the second time. (He had one kid who got taken, then had two more, but they both got taken as well.)

Did you know the sims 3 traits are now in a mod for the sims 2 ? It adds some depth to their personality. Kind of tedious to install but it worth it. I personally love it, it really enhanced the gameplay

I think this play style in choosing aspirations, is good if you want to stick to a certain system. But in my opinion it would become a litte boring and if you want to go that way, a bit unrealistic imo. Because its funny to see a very shy sim to become a romance sim, etc. Its very entertaining to have sims with oppsite personality to their aspirations. And it occurs in "real life" too. If you play like this for a while it can also happen that most sims with the same aspirations have the same personality, and gameplay. I wont judge you playing style ofc, everyone plays their games how they want ofc. I am just sharing my thoughts.

I made the way I choose aspirations super simple, the highest stat decides their aspiration. Neat is Knowledge, Outgoing in Romance, Active is Fortune, Playful is Family, and Nice is Popularity. I hate pleasure and grilled cheese so I never bother with them. If they have two stats that are tied for the highest I roll or if they have siblings I choose whatever the other sibling doesn't have. Their secondary aspiration is based on their second highest stat. Makes it easy and I never have to write anything down.

In my game, I buff any of pre sims depending on situation for instance I made Nervous restore the original personality and change his original zodiac sign from aquarius to virgo and since his original personality was 10 1 10 2 2, I made his outgoing buff from 2 to 5 and his serious points will buff back to 0 playful points.

I always pick aspirations based on the sims childhood. If a sims family was poor, I usually pick fortune, a loner gets popularity or knowledge, lack of family attention gets romance, things like that

I still remember back then when I was a kid, and I'm playing with generations and family (like legacy challenge but not a challenge). I remember having a hard time trying to choose an aspiration for sims who isn't an heir, but then I just tossed them all out and don't even play them. So, I created this system for non-heir sims specifically. I play The Sims 2 in my native language (Thai), and the game translates "active" into sporty energetic (I don't know the english words-) So, I have never understand active like you do. And for me, grouchy seems to fit fortune sims more, like, rich people is arrogant or something like that. And, romance should be nice, so they'll have the charm to seduce(??) others-

I like the thought you put into each Sim with this system, but I really can't be bothered to do the same thing myself, so I use Pleasant Sims' adjusted version of the Maxis system. Watching the zodiac signs change as you adjust the points, it seems your system is actually not much different from that one as they match up pretty well.

I have my own system that I made just so I'm not compelled to just choose my favorite Aspirations and actually have variety among my sims. It goes like this Aries- Fortune/Knowledge Taurus- Pleasure/Fortune Gemini- Popularity/Romance Cancer- Romance/Family Leo- Romance/Popularity Virgo- Knowledge/Pleasure Libra- Popularity/Pleasure Scorpio- Fortune/Popularity Sagittarius- Knowledge/Romance Capricorn- Pleasure/Family Aquarius- Family/Knowledge Pieces- Family/Fortune I chose two for each one just in case I end up with sims who share a sign in my household. Its a nice system for me because now I actually have varied sims in my hoods!

Question for all the sims 2 fans! Lately, I've been noticing an issue with a few of my sims that have gone to uni. Things are normal for a while, but then around the end of adulthood or randomly as an elder, things change. They lose their life stage stating they went to school, they lose their extra wants and they can no longer work the university careers...It's happened maybe 5-6 times, and all the sims have been related (Mother, father and their kids). Has this happened to anyone else?? Is this a glitch or sign of corruption? Anyone know how to fix this?

I've played with a similar system for a while in my neighborhood. And I did end up with generation where 5 kids had the same aspiration and 4 other kids had any other type of aspiration. I also don't like stereotyping. Can't a shy guy want friends or chase love? For me, random is always better, it allows for more interesting stories.
