I'm connecting and digging in the septic system, still dealing with a lot of rain, but it looks like dry weather is ahead. Aaron and Laura are visiting in their beautiful van, and help out a bit.

Am just starting this blog . It is nearly 4am where I am. Dear Martin I have watched you from day 1 and after my husband of 64 years died I thank you for keeping my mind occupied in such a lovely place. I am in my 80s and very unwell with my heart. I might die shortly and will be sad to follow you over your life. Your book gave me great pleasure. Thank you. I will keep watching you as long as I can ❤

I was watching a little film about an amazing potter who went from the Bauhaus to America and someone asked her: "how did you find this place?" And she replied, "you don't find a place. You make a place." You are making your place and it is an honor and privilege for us to get to watch it.

This is why I love Martijn's work on here. I think we as viewers just assume that if a content creator upload a compilation/re-run or what have you, then that will be the substitute for the usual content that week. But here you have Martijn, throwing us a curve ball. What more can you ask for? Haha, love it.

KZbin should really supply a Love button. Those rolls that Laura made looked to beautiful to eat and their camper van was something special. Loved the aesthetic. Great progress this week. Well done and thank you. I know it's not easy trying to get the job done and filming and editing at the same time. We do appreciate everything. See you next week Martijn.

@@uberalles9797 Yes, rice 'paper' like the Japanese use for Sushi. I bet that very peaceful couple were vegetarian ...I used to make all vegetarian wraps and salads garnished with edible flowers/ Dandelions are a good start ...and organic (ALL flowers must be organic because store-bought are treated with chemicals)... Pansies and Tulip and Rose petals, Daisies, Dianthus, Cornflowers, Carnations, Gladiolas, Violets, Sunflowers (harvest the seeds when mature & use petals for garnish), , Hollyhocks, Nasturtiums, Calendula (only the petals), Honeysuckle, Lavender, Pink & Purple Lilacs, ~(Red and White Clover flowers, Chamomile and Hibiscus flowers ...also these are for tea), ~ Purple Chive flowers, Purple Anise flowers (tastes like licorice), Elderberry flowers, Chickweed flowers, (lemon, tangerine, Mexican & French Marigolds), ( Apple, Ginger, Lemon, Lime, Nutmeg, Peppermint, Rose, and Ginger Geraniums... but NOT citronella), Apple Blossoms, Squash flowers, Kale & Cabbage & Cauliflower flowers (when they "bolt"), Cherry Blossoms, Begonias, Borage Star flowers, Bee Balm flowers, Pea flowers, and for the adventurous souls ... The scenery around your cabins are spectacular, and the flower that Laura put together were so beautiful. They put any florist to shame. It is nice to see that you have great friends who are willing to help from time to time. That says a lot about you! I am glad to see the chickens are well. Ann from Va. USA 🇺🇸

How satisfying to see the many good people willing to give a hand. It gives hope for the future that not everyone is greedy and corrupt. You lead us into another look at your slice of the world. Mother Nature is putting on a fine display of her powers. I think most of Europe has now experienced her power with the weather. There are plenty of us who have had a real soaking with the torrential rain she has shared with us! But, as they say, without the rain we would not experience the beauty that follows the rain. The fruits of her labours would not be as sweet. It's amazing how where ever you are a drop of rain always makes the grass green up and sprint into life, before you know it the grass needs cutting. Seemingly within days of the rain!

Happy summer solstice this week from South Africa, where it's midwinter. Watching your work inspired me to snap up a bargain cordless drill and impact driver combo from the counter of the local hardware store. I'm 65. The last drill I bought was 1985 when I started renovating the dilapidated old Victorian house I bought that year. I'm not inclined to replace a tool that's still working fine, but I'm currently building a chicken coop in the rain and that little drill has proved itself already. So thank you. Your videos are a highlight, every week.

I have lived 4 years with my parents in a tent during my last 4 years at school. Watching rain out of a tent is not the same as watching rain out of a house or flat...beautiful

I kept waiting for the chickens.. more than half through before those stars entered stage right. Martin is a good man to be patient and kind to people of all different backgrounds. You provided them an experience that they will remember, something different than their usual.. not that life on a mountain is usual either. Martin makes us all so comfortable with his daily routine that it feels so standard.

I subscribe to a lot of channels but there are only about a half dozen that I really look forward to seeing the thumb nail pop up. And your's is one of my top three. I skim through so many channels where the people talk so much and feel they need to describe every step in the process of doing anything. I watch every minute of your videos and even go back and rewatch some spots that are so beautiful or informative. Thank you for providing me with my Sunday escape to the mountains of Italy. Cheers from Arizona, USA

When you get the new trailer, park the old one near your little garden and make a raised bed of it. It would last for years that way and still be useful.🤗❤️🐝

I’m so exited to drive from the Netherlands to Northern Italy myself tomorrow. I’ll be there in the Valle Veddasca close to the Lago Maggiore for two and half weeks in our own historical house, build the same way as Martijn his house but then much bigger in a small mountain village called Garabiolo. Nature and environment is similar to Martijn his place. This is the most beautiful time of the year nature wise.

It's coming together. Some projects become more urgent like the drainage however this is what you discover the longer you live there. Each step gets you closer to realizing your dream. What's amazing is the beauty that surrounds you. That never gets old. I hope you enjoy the journey you're on as much as the destination when you get there.

Well done on the septic system - I hope it is as effective as the design suggests. Also, well done on cutting the 'offlets' to distribute the water on the hill away from the road and tracks. The old ways of burying a channel of rocks to provide feld drainage was very effective in Scotland (though a similar system is called a French drain - but we got more water here in the highlands). You have so much work to undertake and I am so impressed with your resilience and dogged, but methodical approach to solving everything (including the scaffolding clamp idea) - great ingenuity and patience that shows what you have chosen is a lifestyle and not so much a destination! Keep well.

The cover still photo for video #71 is an exceptionally good image. Except for the presence of the car and trailer it could have been mistaken for an inspiration to paint a Norman Rockwell (ish) idyllic-romantic rural scene. The mist, the mountains, the hard working folk and even the clothes they wear give the photo ageless authenticity.

Another superb video. Your work with the camera and spot on editing do not go unnoticed in our household! I find there is always a bit of sentimentality or perhaps melancholy that comes with viewing your videos which is a nice juxtaposition to the brutish work of the task at hand. The flowers picked by the lovely young lady was a kind touch that reminds us all to stop and enjoy what is around us. Thanks Martijn.

You are getting to be quite a pro with your stone work now. It’s as if your hands and eyes more quickly find the right stone than when you first began. Seeing experience in your movements tells how much time has passed and how much your body, mind, and spirit have grown. I hope in those moments when you pause and look at your home that you feel that wonder…before you take up whatever tool and keep on keeping on.😊 From Oregon, one of your worldwide cheering groupies.❤️

13:45 My grandad told me to use only cotton cloth strips to tie up my tomatoes. Because wire will both rust and cut the stalk. Funny how we stick with things out of tradition, whether or not they may be best practice. I never questioned it I simply saved old t shirts. 😊
