I'm finishing the small roof and putting the last stones in the wall. The outside work is slowly coming to an end. I'm baking a few things with mixed results. I'm closing the week with a walk to Conca del Pra.

Recently I've noticed you a little tired. The cake and burnt bread are just a symptom of this. Perhaps a little physical rest will help put things back in their proper place. This project of yours is physically and mentally very exhausting. A rest will help keep you safer. Have a break. We will still be here waiting, don't worry. Have a Nice week Martjin! ✌️

About the mystery of the egg color: It is not the color of the plumage that determines the shell color, but depends on the breed and is recognizable by the color of the bare earlobe behind the corn. Hens with white earlobes lay white eggs, hens with brown earlobes lay brown eggs. 🙂
@jennyheidewald5006
@jennyheidewald5006 10 ай бұрын
And, to make it fun, there are eggceptions to the certain earlobe color = certain egg color. 😊
@Remy.

Also, chicken breeds that lay white eggs are apparently more sustainable. They need less food, live longer and produce more eggs on a yearly basis :) According to the Dutch consumer tv show "Keuringsdienst van waarde".

I am glad you sprayed the walls for the fleas. You have to do it again in 7 days as the flea eggs hatch in that time. As a pet owner who had inside and outside cats over the years I have done battle with flea infestation and it's such a pain. If you put food grade diatomaceous earth on the floors and in the chicken coop it will prevent fleas and mites from the chickens. Put some under their nests also. It will kill the bugs naturally. I love your videos and look forward to watching them every Sunday morning. So much hard work and you have made so much progress.The walls you have built look outstanding. Thank you for sharing your journey with us.

I can envision old style outdoor lanterns hanging from the cabin stone walls soon. It's going to look amazing. Thank you for the time you put into editing the videos. Chickens like a perch in front of the nesting box. Its best to have one that folds up during the day then it is put down in the evening to encourage them to lay in the box in the evening. They also like the color red. It attracts them the same way the cocks comb does. In commercial egg operations you will often see a red curtain in front.of the nesting box. They like the color and privacy it provides.

It must leave you with a tremendous sense of achievement Martijn, when you look at what you have done of late … the digging out of the ground to take the sewerage pipes etc was such a physical task, given that you had to deal with huge slabs of stone in the trench and then there seemed to be continuous rain which really made the whole project that much more challenging. In all the time that you have baked bread this time is the only time it didn’t work … so I wouldn’t worry about that 😉 The painstakingly slow pace on finalizing the stone walls in the cabin just speaks of your commitment to your standard of workmanship… well done 👍 Durban SA🇿🇦

I really admire the way that you are building; not only in your level of skill - which is very impressive, but also in your approach of not wanting to impose yourself on the house and landscape, but respect what is there, and preserve what you love about it. Without sacrificing your own human needs for warmth, safety and comfort. So often in design programmes you see people falling in love with an old building, but you just see the old soul of the building dissapearing behind the modern renovations. So I really admire your way. You really embody the ideal of 'craftsmanship'

Lime mortar on the wall would make the cabin brighter. You apply it by throwing it at the wall. Then you can smooth it out with a coarse brush. The lime mortar also fills up any voids. It is also faster than trying to fill every cavity by hand.

I love these Sunday videos. When you were on the big rock overlook, i couldn't see a single cell tower or wind turbine. Gorgeous. I love the studied pace of your improvements. Best to you❤.

Watching you place these stones in a tetras like manner is absolutely incredible. You are not doing just what is required by the Italian Government, you are going above and beyond. It has been such a pleasure watching this transformation thus far. I cannot wait to see more.

Martijn i have no idea where or how you get your motivation to continue placing stones etc. I have an 1890 house with a rock basement and those kind of basement needs love once in a while. Watching you and other videos how to apply motar has helped me a lot. It's the motivation to get down there and do it that I find the most difficult. Thumbs up to you for your patience, your will power can make us see the finish line. Congratulations! Ÿour cabin looks really good. Sorry for your baking this week, hope it will be better for you next week, have a good one and thank you for the walk it's always so beautiful.

For the tomatoes try sticking some electrical copper wire through the base of the stems(sand it if it's lackquered). Supposedly it provides the tomatoes with copper necessary to fight off these sicknesses. No need to spray with anything, ever. My tomatoes have definitely benefitted from this method- quite healthy in this neverending rain all summer long in near Austria, at 900m.

ALL the talk about fleas, buy a Citronella candle, the bucket size. Put it inside the room ,& burn it. Not only fleas will leave. Your videos inspire me to try to come to Italy, just to enjoy, a scenic drives and enjoy that area.

Just adding my voice to the many here who watch every week. First off I am always encouraged and uplifted by Martin's work ethic and sticktoitiveness (if such a word even exists). This week was a bit of a downer with two burned meals (butter cake and sour dough bread) along with the mold on the tomatoes. Yikes! Yet our friend keeps a stiff upper lip and marches onward and upward. The first brown egg was a hit. Too bad it ended up on the burnt butter cake. At least the chickens enjoyed it. There was some excellent drone work this week with both some driving footage and walking too. I did spend some time on Google maps this week trying to find Martijn's place near Val Pellice but couldn't locate it. I did find a couple of locations that might be older views of his place, and I even found one location with what looked like a round tent like his but the rest of the lay of the land wasn't right. Still looking. Things are also shaping up nicely for the transition to living in the cabin this winter. The jury is still out on whether Martijn can get everything necessary done in time. The next two months (8 weeks) will allow us all to better gauge the odds of his success. I'm still at 80%. There are always surprises with projects like this. As Martijn himself has told us he can only plan in general terms because some steps in the process only emerge as he arrives at that place in the process. So far he has done a masterful job of seeing the future and planning accordingly. Time will tell if he is able to keep things moving along at a pace that will allow the heating and cooking stove/oven and chimney to get done in time. I wonder how the pesticide worked at eliminating the fleas? Again...time will tell. God bless you Martijn. See you next week.

Weer prachtige muziek! Fijn!😊

Martjin, I really admire the work you are doing. The lengths you go to achieve results. That stonework between the buildings is perfect. That door and little room came out well. Are you going to build a door for it?
