This is a video in my new Core Concepts series -- designed to provide students and lifelong learners a brief discussion focused on one main concept from a classic philosophical text and thinker.
This Core Concept video focuses on the introduction to Martin Heidegger's early work Being and Time, specifically on his discussion in section 7, in which he discusses the concept of "phenomenon", preparatory to discussing the concept of phenomenology.

Gregory, I'm making my X attempt at understanding Heidegger in years and this video is helping me so much, thanks so fucking much, I love it, reading the introduction in B&T has been me nodding in agreement to stuff I already knew or understood or trying to fill out the empty spaces that I couldn't understand, THANK YOU.

I just discovered your channel, Dr. Sadler. I am very impressed with your knowledge of Heidegger. I did my Master's thesis on Heidegger and he is my number 1 philosophical interest. Thank you for giving me good teachings to listen to while I work!

Wow so clear. I like how you give the necessary contexts of Kant and the Greeks. My 20th century philosophy professor is somewhat less precise, as I feel many 20th century thinkers tend to be, which can make it difficult to fit into the framework of my understanding of these concepts and how they relate to previous philosophical work (though it has other benefits like emotional impact and whatnot) but I appreciate your distinctions and explanation!

"“Seems,” madam? Nay, it is. I know not “seems.” 'Tis not alone my inky cloak, good mother, Nor customary suits of solemn black, Nor windy suspiration of forced breath, No, nor the fruitful river in the eye, Nor the dejected 'havior of the visage, Together with all forms, moods, shapes of grief, That can denote me truly. These indeed “seem,” For they are actions that a man might play. But I have that within which passeth show, These but the trappings and the suits of woe."

You said being is not a genus, what does that mean?
@GregoryBSadler

AB3 pretty straightforward. Think about what a genus is. Being isn’t that
