Yeah, you should see the track record for all those Democrat (previously Republican) consultants they use. It's the same do nothing, every move is wrong, pool of consultants who just want to ensure they have a job next time. And wow, the party is so happy to pay them for failing and not change a thing every single time. Imagine if they ran government based on data driven results instead of nepotism and favors? It might actually function. (Imagine if they ran an economy that way? Trickle down economists would be run out of the country by the torch wielding masses.)

Martin had a point that was that he can get funding. That was his point. All the rest was about why the last race was lost by people like him. That is that they put money before ideas. He did not say. We need to get money out of politics. He did not say that healthcare is a human right and should be free. He did not say that the reason prices are high is because the corporations saw during covid that they can raise prices even in times of pain and get away with it. All of the problems he did talk about would have been fixed by removing money from politics. So he is not about the solution as he is about keeping the money moving up. Wrong person for the job....he failed to address the real issues that cause people to suffer.

That's why I believe Democrats need to select a Chair that know how to communicate with people at their level and where they are, and how the grassroots politics strategies work by doing it in addition to bring new generation of Leaders to the spectrum. Ben Wikler from WI has shown it very well with excellent results and I think he is a better choice. But... let see how this close to the public "selection" works out. This was an extremely interesting discussion. It gave me more hope for the future and direction of the Democratic Party. I was also raised as a Democrat through my parents ideology and when I went to university during the late sixties and early seventies, I formed my own opinion. I came to the conclusion that my parents were absolutely correct and have been a democrat my entire life and certainly will never change my party affiliation. I too believe that we need to focus on the young people. College educated or not to impress upon them that the Democratic Party is actually the party that most represents most Americans. 💙

I would like to add something that you probably already know. I’m just a person from Oregon, a long time democrat with a pronounced social consciousness. I received a plethora of emails and texts asking for money. Not one email or text was willing to just explain something to me or engage me in conversation or ask me to participate in something where money wasn’t involved. I honestly didn’t know what organizations to trust after a while. I give money to the party, but I can’t give money to everyone. I just don’t have enough to do that. And after a while, I began deleting messages as they came in or blocking them so they wouldn’t get through the gates. There’s gotta be a better way to engage me or anyone else. Just sayin’.
@vdk979720 күн бұрын
@greyhairedfairy65 That's interesting, because I received a "plethora of emails and texts" about signing up to take action...in fact, such a "plethora" of volunteer options to sign up for that I could barely keep up and frequently over committed myself! In fact sometimes I was on a phone bank or a text bank and writing postcards at the same time! Did I get emails and texts asking for donations? Sure, I got plenty, those are automated. But I was too busy volunteering to notice most of those. I set up my small monthly donations directly with candidates that I support it, then ignored most of the requests. I much prefer getting involved with local organizations to take action, ideally in person but much of it was remote, which was a great opportunity to be able to impact on necessary campaigns and candidates in other states. It was also an opportunity for me to draw in friends and acquaintances, to get them involved.
@KateKohl-45618 күн бұрын
"Not one email or text was willing to just explain something to me or engage me in conversation or ask me to participate in something where money wasn’t involved." You have the exact same thought reaction I've had since about 2020. I also might add that overwhelmingly they don't say anything, not even generally, what efforts my money would pay for, a.k.a. how we are fighting MAGA. I'm a fellow Oregonian, and I have also stopped reading 99.9% of those emails.

I contributed all that I could afford to the Kamala Harris campaign, to the DCCC, to the DSCC, and to individual Democrats running for seats in Congress. In 20/20 hindsight, I now understand that my contributions were not effective because polling of voters after they voted indicates that many below-median-wage voters felt ignored or abandoned-- They felt that Kamala Harris was not listening to their concerns. I believe that it is ESSENTIAL that the Democratic Party organize a HUGE team of volunteers -- one volunteer for every 50 below-medium-wage voters, including both urban areas and rural, "one house every half-mile" areas, and direct the volunteers to FIRST spend eight months doing the following: ask those voters what their highest priority concerns are and what they want Congress and the President to do about their concerns,LISTEN and RECORD their concerns and reporting those concerns up the chain. THEN the Democratic Party should prepare a 2026 election platform directly addressing the common concerns of below-median-wage voters. THEN the same team of volunteers can go back, in early-to-mid-2026, to the below-median-wage voters they spoke to before, tell them what the Democratic Party will do to address those concerns, make sure they understand and agree with the plan, and THEN ask them to vote for the Democrats running for the House from their district & for the Senate from their state and for their state legislature.

News deserts throughout the US -- communities with no local newspaper and with access to only mis- and disinformation via right-wing radio and television thanks largely to the Murdoch media dynasty -- played a key role. That was a key part of the strategy in the Powell memo (August 1971), written by then Richmond, VA corporate attorney Lewis Powell, whom President Richard Nixon appointed to the US Supreme Court 3 months later.

Misinformation? Sorry, but there have been too many situations where we see the receipts and discover we were lied to. That is why people don’t trust the Federal government! Unreasonable promises, lies , and corruption. It’s Beltway leadership…both parties. Not kidding. We have laws. We need to follow them, not twist them around, and manipulate to make them become some far from original intent. We also need to defend employees in government who are honest, who expose favoritism and corruption, NOT throw them under the bus or throw shade on them! Yeah, the last Administration DID THAT…to civil servants who happened to be DEMOCRATS. Yeah that’s right! You heard me! Our Justice Dept went after Democrats who whistleblew on corruption in the White House. You need to make up your mind to have the integrity to do the right thing and defend those who risk their careers to uphold that…or our government is a banana republic.

You are right about media platforms, but corporate greed is the real play. Understand why both parties don't want to take on wall street, investment banks and the way we allow capital and equities to be manipulated, but greed is the problem. In simple language (and for god's sake don't start by saying "number 1", ppl's eyes glaze over) and I do mean simple, point them in the direction of the source of their real problem, the systemic impoverishment of working ppl. Corporate interests have done a great job of convincing voters that government is the problem, when it's actually the answer to the problem. Why else would the monied interests be so hell bent to take over as much of governance as they can buy. It's scary, I know, and I'm for real markets and real competition but that's not what we have. I will contribute directly to a few Democrats and independents who call out bad corporate behavior. I hope there will be more to meet the challenge

Government tends to NOT be the answer. When it gets too big, it trips over itself. It tends not to be as efficas state and local governments. Local control tends to serve constituents better

@pamalamcbrayer1399 not against improving federal government services, but they have to operate sometimes with conflicting policies from the president and Congress, ppl we vote for. I repeat, ppl we VOTE for. In the final analysis voting for better representation is the answer. Because of the power of money, it's the only bit of influence that is left to us. Government bad is the way corporate and monied interests distract you from their own greedy, destructive behavior. Why have they been so hell bent to take over every aspect of the federal government? To make things better for average citizens? The ones they have systematically impoverished on a national scale? Agree about the importance of local elections. We must pay close attention to both local and federal.

Not only lost sight, but enabled! Get money influence out of our Government!!!!!! Nothing will change as long as billionaires rule. If up to me I would shut down stock market until Wall Street comes to the table with guarantees to share the wealth the people are generating. Guarantee the stock market would resume real quick. Minutes.

After watching this and the James Skoufis interview you did, I'm depressed. I'm sure O'Malley is a good guy, but he's not what we Dems need now. But he'll probably be the next chair of the DNC. He's too old, too glib, too sure of himself, and too mired in the past to do what needs to be done to win back voters. We've got to get through to men -- ALL men -- to young people, and to rural people if we're going to send Trumpism to the ash heap of history. I think Skoufis understands this and will use modern techniques to accomplish it. O'Malley needs to step down. His generation has failed us.

Voter ID is voter suppression is one of the dumbest things ever said.
@geekcollage21 күн бұрын
No. But pivoting to having effective government ID's to work for every American, especially the rural, homeless, elderly and poor. Would hamstring the Extremist's actual reasons for having it.

If voter IDs are not easily obtainable/widespread then yes it absolutely is voter suppression. I’d have no problem with voter ID if people were automatically given such a card when they turn 18 akin to how all males get a draft card. But, what if you are a city dweller living without a driver’s license? You may not hold a passport, which is expensive, and may only really have your birth certificate as proof of “citizenship”. Under photo-based voter ID laws you’re shit outta luck even if you are otherwise registered to vote. Per the League of Women Voters: “The negative impact of strict voter ID laws is not limited to Black Americans; other marginalized populations also face disproportionate barriers to voting because of these laws. Native American communities, low-income, elderly, and rural voters are disproportionately affected by voter photo ID laws. This is partially because photo IDs aren’t as common as many people assume: 18% of all citizens over the age of 65, 16% of Latino voters, 25% of Black voters, and 15% of low-income Americans lack acceptable photo ID.”

But as designed, these laws clearly are meant to disenfranchise groups which have historically voted for Democrats

@@CK-530 that is ridiculous. Black people and other marginalized groups are able to get ID just like any other American. Is there something wrong with us that we require a lower standard to vote or do anything else?
@vdk979720 күн бұрын
@Chris11R How interesting that you refer to a "lower standard" when it's actually a "higher standard" that is being demanded! Also fascinating that you call "ridiculous" statistics indicating that some groups are disproportionately affected.
