"I couldn't find any DIY videos by someone like me, who'd never done it before" I get what she's looking for - an idea of what it really takes for a beginner to do it - but surely that's not a good place to start. The professionals have gone through making all the mistakes, and trying lots of kit, so they're the best-placed to tell you what to do. Love that you've taken the time to break this down, and that you haven't crucified her for the mistakes - so many experienced pros on KZbin are just critical of everything, and it's discouraging. Great to find someone who's positive and really wants to show everyone how they can do it themselves, but also what a real, professional paintjob can be.

Hey Martin, It's awesome that a bigger KZbinr is taking time to check out other's work that happens to not be another big KZbinr. I say that because this shows your genuine passion for your art and not two big KZbinrs coming together just for the views and self-promotion. Your knowledge in this video was impressive, and on point I already had respect for you but I think that just grew a bit. Also, It's nice to see that Elena being pro-active, It's so common today that people don't think for a second about what they are doing and wonder why they get scammed. Even though this was Elena's first try and made mistakes at least she actually gave it a shot and learned a few things. It's actually refreshing to see content like this as it's so down-to-earth and genuine. FYI I don't blame her to be honest, here I've seen paint jobs for £200+ which is just plain ridiculous. But it isn't any different from any trade because the chances are you can do much cheaper. Overall awesome job to both yourself and Elena.

As much as your first DIY video was good, this one is even better; cause I can see what she did wrong and what was the result; so if I get the same result I know how to rectify it then and there as opposed to two or three months down the road. Martin can you give some info on those of us who might want to consider painting outside? Obviously you can't paint under the sunshine or in rain. But what should be the ambient temperature range and what to do about the wind?

...don't forget a dust mask for the paint removal /sanding process. A respirator mask is a different safety item. Dust mask is for dust only, the other mask is for vapor only. Also: don't sand where you will be spraying the paint or clear coat, use TWO different areas, obviously. I like Martins idea of a simple home-made paint-booth I will give that a go, if my friends booth is not available. Elenas color-sense and design is way better than most commercial designs and paint-styling you see in the world. Perhaps Martin should do a bike using Elenas' design. You two are great, thanks for sharing your information and knowledge.

Hey MARTIN In other DIY spray can video you do, you wet sand 800G between clear coats also you have previously used 2k clears over Montana paints. Is 2k clear for acrylic base coats? Or is it only certain ones? Also is the to wet sand between clear coats always needed either DIY OR PRO and why? Also can you make some DIY Videos on spraying custom components eg CRANKS, Stems, seat posts, hubs and fixing bolts for these pieces eg silver bolts to black or eg a black seatpost that is all scratched how to do a blended/ repair/ refurbished paint finish all at the same tim making sure to discuss how to make the end product paint as factory durable for the particular parts as the tend to cop the most abuse when riding! It never ceases to amaze me how many people say they dont wanna pay pro prices, but then if you sit down and ask yourself how much investment goes to into a workshop, then you begin to see you are getting charged a fraction of the true cost, plus the fact that the guy doing it probably was paid peanut's for years before making any money How many times do I get asked what's the cheapest price...(sent from my iPhone 11) ?? Can we have some how to be a solicitor videos on KZbin.. cos it's easy right? 8:37 Hey Martin, please tell me, is there a reason you sand by hand and don't use tools(like power tools, sanders,etc) to sand the frame ? Love your channel, keep up the great humor and awesome content !
@insanebmxthomas4 жыл бұрын
If i may answer; Sanding by hand makes it so you remove material more evenly across the surface. With a sander you can easily blow through a layer when unlucky. Doing it by hand also allows you to spot errors/missed spots. Missing a spot is a pain in the ass, especially if you notice it too late. Power tools usually leave patterns. Sanders usually makes the grit you use a bit 'finer' in result. But they're terrible for preparing bike parts. Sanding tools are super handy for flat surfaces; or surfaces with slight concave or convex. But for bike frames; tubing, rounded edges, nooks crannies and corners, a sander just isn't practical.
@mikpopiel4734 жыл бұрын
insanebmxthomas Especially on Carbon Layups. It doesn’t take much to go through the clear epoxy to the actual carbon matrix- even by hand. Do that, and you’re sacrificing the structural integrity, and no. Amount of lipstick and mascara will fix that.
