Martin Shkreli was sentenced to seven years in prison and three years’ probation, yet his notoriety continued behind bars. Shkreli reflected on his sentencing, expressing that he was initially threatened with up to 27 years. While incarcerated, Shkreli made headlines again for selling a rare Wu-Tang Clan album, "Once Upon a Time in Shaolin," for $2.4 million to an anonymous buyer. This album later changed hands, eventually being purchased by the collective PleasrDAO for $4 million. The intricacies of whether PleasrDAO truly owns the album have been contested by Shkreli. Fast forward to 2024, PleasrDAO has sued Shkreli, alleging he publicly played the album, an action they claim is illegal. Similar to how any of us could go to the store twenty years ago and buy a CD... It didn't mean we bought the music for 15 bucks, we just bought a CD. The way the album was sold, when he bought it from the producer, he bought the album, he's free to play it and do whatever he wants with it.
