A lot of people start dressing like that when they get older.I think they are doing it now before they reach the age where they look weird wearing the cloths they wore in their younger days.When people get older they normally change their style because their body type will change.RZA isn't at that age yet but he is probably starting to make the shift in his style before it happens.Or maybe older people's style just changes but i have heard older people will change the way they dress as their body type changes.

How does selling 1 copy have a big impact on rap culture? He said it was "very important to rap culture". He wanted to make money
@magnus2544
@magnus2544 7 жыл бұрын
Whether it does or doesn't have an impact, I don't know, but the idea is to elevate rap to the kind of artform that people are willing to pay millions for. People have paid huge sums of money for instruments, books, paintings etc. for a while, but no one's ever paid millions for a rap album,.. Until Wu-Tang sold Once Upon a Time in Shaolin. /shrug

Good rap doesn't mean shit to people who don't care for rap. Money means something to everyone. If you wanna show that rap has artistic value, selling a single album at a ridiculously high price with lots of media blaze surrounding it is probably more impactful than being an exceptionally talented underground rapper that no one has ever heard of? /shrug I don't necessarily think rap needs to be fine art though. It's kinda whatever to me, more into metal than rap in any case. I also don't know if elevating rap was the wu-tang clan's intention in the first place, but that seems like as good of an excuse as any? And sorry for writing a wall of text, this always happens when I try to write youtube comments. I'm long-winded.

It has impact on culture Because he is presenting it as a piece of art. Just 1 copy. It's important to all forms of entertainment and art because it has not been done like this before. This is very important for opening new doors and changing up the game. No one buys music anymore I love this ideal.

The common people dont deserve to see art, the artist deserves what he gets for his work and rich people are allowed to do that, otherwise rich folks will only pay pennies to stream music.

+MrElephantBeach Your logic doesn't make any sense at all and just comes across as a bitter fan who's mad they can't listen to it. Basically your saying no one should be express any kind of creativity in the world and try something new and should give things away. I bet 100% they thought it would get out to everyone, just stop and think if I was a rapper that'd be a cool concept to make this double sided album and sell one copy and see what happens with it. Right away the first thing you'r not going to be thinking is some guy is going to snatch it for 2mil and then not doing anything with it or be one of the most hated people in the world. What they did is a concept that they prob expected a few thousand for the album and that whoever got it would distribute it to everyone else. Just because the outcome turned out diff there's nothing they can do about it and doesn't mean anything on them. TL:DR: If you want new music from them go listen to a new song on a mixtape from them for free. If you want to try and get on them for doing something creative that you feel backfired then go after the guy that bought it but then again art is subjective so as RZA said if there's some nice art of him at an auction and someone that hates him decides they want to drop 1k$ on it just to destroy it or shit on it rather then say a real fan getting it for 500$ wtf can you do about that. That's just life and the way it is.

The whole Martin Shkreli thing is so overrated. The guy took a drug that was endanger of being discontinued because the profit margin was pretty much zero. The drug was sold from company to company because nobody could make a dime off it. Shkreli jacked up the price so that he could make money off it and put it into the research of making a better drug. There is only about 2000 people worldwide that take the drug and approximately 1400 of them get it for free because they can't afford it. So nobody is dying, the drug stays on the market to help those few people, and the money is allowing research to make a new, safer version of this drug. It's so odd that they picked this one pharmaceutical company to be labeled as evil when the entire medical industry severely jacks up the prices on literally everything.

This is more complicated than just wanting money. I believe RZA really does view it as an artistic choice. I think he was successful. The album is now legendary. Had it just been released like a regular album people would probably brush it off as a mediocre entry in Wu-Tang's discography. Pharma-douche put it up for auction. Hopefully the next person to purchase the album leaks the tracks. I think RZA is counting on it being leaked. It's the best of both worlds. They made the money, they made the artistic statement, and we all get to listen to it for free eventually anyway.

That's facts, just like how in 2017 Wu Tang released an album that only sold 30k and I just found that out last week!!! If anything this is great publicity and hype for it to be released in 10-20 years from now (since someone is bound to leak it).

I kind of respect RZA for creating his art with the idea of only 1 copy. The owner of the copy is allowed to do what they want with it, if they dont listen to it and destroy it, that is part of the art. if they share it with the world , that too is part of the art. It reminds me in some ways of Portugal the mans song, Sumatran tiger, which was pressed onto copies of vinyl that get worse with every play, basically making it an endangered song, the only way the song was to be preserved for the future was if everyone shared the song and made copies of it, almost the opposite of this piece of music/art. I love this stuff and encourage more artists to experiment with the availability of their music as a piece of the experience.

There is a reason why most of the members of Wu have been on the outs with this guy. Some of it is jealousy because he was the figurehead behind all of the great years the group had but most of it stems from his yearning to be artistic. He has made some seriously shitty decisions with the groups direction and the music and chemistry really suffered.
@skinnykidinc
@skinnykidinc 8 жыл бұрын
From my understand the original idea was that the album would have one copy, because like a piece of art the owner would invite people to come over to hear it, or it would be purchased by a museum and people would go there to hear it, etc. Which I don't think that would have been a completely bad idea from an art stand point. Things just didn't really work out that way. Things didn't turn out good at all.

+Drty Porcelain And so? Is RZA the only person in history to ever sell art at an art auction to the highest bidder? He was making an artistic statement about his craft. Especially considering how many musical artists these days have been complaining (like T. Swift) about how services like Spotify are devaluing their contributions it makes it an even stronger statement when you THINK about it. Perhaps you should take your own advice or a chill pill. No need for disrespect in an intelligent debate.

If that's all it took to turn you off you never really fucked with them to begin with. BTW he is calling this a piece of art not just an album. High Art goes to the highest bidder, and is usually a one of a kind. RZA was explaining he could share the artwork with the world, like when people allow the paintings they purchase to hang in a museum or keep it to himself.

I love RZA man, he's one of my idols and a true inspiration to any musician, but I think he got played for a fool on this one. Sure he got a ton of money for one album, but in doing so, he denied all the true fans the opportunity to hear it. But in saying that, I don't believe he thought it would go down like that.

@Literal Vampire Potbellied Goblin Not really. In a very real sense their support over the years has also contributed to making the music. It's brought RZA to the point where he has a platform that allows him to sell a single copy of a record for $2m. And just cos you brought your own ball to a game doesn't make it cool to deflate the thing and shrug your shoulders at everyone else involved, what sort of argument is that?

Huge Wu Tang fan and disappointed RZA did this. RZA tries to act like he's doing this for art, but no this move to sell the one album to the highest bidder is just for greed because Wu Tang albums aren't selling, so this was a brilliant way for him to get paid. It's a slap to the face of fans though.
