Martina Hingis: Youngest Grand Slam Champion.
When fourteen-year-old Martina Hingis stepped onto the court for her first competitive match on the WTA Tour, she had all the hallmarks of her age - braces on her teeth, hair in a ponytail and the kind of fearless swagger that only comes with being young and gifted.
Within two years she was lifting the Australian Open singles trophy, becoming the youngest-ever Grand Slam singles champion in tennis history.
Record breakers don't come any more precocious.

Still the best teen tennis superstar. One of the greats of tennis game ever produced. She didnt need to be a hard hitter. Her IQ on court is simply one the best.

My all time favorite female player including Seles as I grew up watching them. Women's tennis used to be interesting, it used to be a beautiful game that required thinking skills like chess. Now women's tennis is nothing but boring pounding the crap out of the ball power tennis and hope it stays in so you don't lose by unforced errors. I've not been able to enjoy the women's game since Hingis and Henin retired from singles play. I hope here soon it returns to it's roots and gets away from mindless power tennis as I'd like to see young girls who aren't tall or built like NFL players win again!

this is a really dumb comment. Tennis has never stopped requiring thinking skills. If you think is has stopped requiring thinking skills then you must be a fan that has never actually played a competitive match.

I loved her non linear style. Drop shots, volleys, topspin lobs , and all the angles she played. Very similar to Roger. However he, like the Williams sisters had/ have those killer serves !!! Her coaching in my opinion was suspect then. And of course she didn’t have the mental resolve and fitness of Serena and Federer . The sports world 🌎 is full of what if’s?? However I thoroughly enjoyed her 5-6 years of dominance!

5:41 is incorrect - the commentator said she never lost a match in mixed doubles grand slam play, but she never lost a FINAL. she's 54-12 in mixed.

But whatever now...it is what it is! Sport history isn’t always just, there are plenty of examples in each sport...it’s just a pity that it had to happen to one of the greatest tennis talents this Earth has ever seen! (Yes i truly believe Hingis is THAT good! I can name only a couple of names who were more talented in the entire tennis history! It’s Navratilova and Graf! Imho Hingis ranks third talent-wise right after them! But oh well...)

Not to mention that it is Hingis and not Williams Sisters, that were recognized as Graf’s successor as an ultimate tennis dominator in WTA for years to come, just like Federer was succeeding Sampras! She was supposed to be the Steffi Graf of 21st century (minus benefitting from an arch-rival tragical stabbing hopefully!) not some 5-slam mid-tier ATG she ended up being, ranked alongside Goolagong/Henin/V.Williams/Sharapova...

She is not the youngest Grand Slam winner! Lottie Dod won the title in 1887 at an age of 15 years and 285 days and became the youngest ever Wimbledon singles champion.

The biggest underachiever in tennis! Imho A 5 time grand slam champion with over 200 weeks as world number one and over 15 tier-1 event titles won to boot??! With resume like that she should have been in Sampras/Borg/Emerson/Laver slam count territory at very least and Graf/S.Williams/Court aka GOAT territory at very most! Instead she ended up being caught up by doping Sharapova of all people (who hadn’t even last 30 weeks on top of the rankings! Lol) and being surpassed by mid-tier ATGs like V.Williams or Henin, not to mention that even quite inconsistent Goolagong Cawley back in the day managed to snatch 7 somehow! Like i said huuuge underachiever! Waste of talent thanks to depression and coke...
