Dude! Thank you so much! My RX 470 wouldn't install AMD drivers and was getting Error 43 in DXdiag. I've never flashed a gpu Bios before. Made it SUPER EASY to follow. You also saved me from having to find a new GPU for my recording rig. I re-flashed the existing f21 vbios, and it worked. Windows sees my gpu now and can display my monitor at the proper resolution and Hz. Liked and Subscribed! Now I just have to fix that wobbly fan. THANKS MAN!

Some vendors may provide BIOS update utilities for the recent GPUs that came out in 2020, but I think this video is about re-flashing GPUs that are older and may no longer have active/official support, so good to know!

Hey, my Subsystem ID doesn't match the one on the Techpowerup page. The last number on mine is a 0, buy the one on Techpowerup is a 2. I know I chose the correct BIOS since there's only 2 available (Hyphenix and Elpida) and mine is Elipida.

Some graphics cards have a manual switch that must be activated first before it will accept the ROM. I know some versions of the RX580 had this... there was a jumper you had to move in order to edit the BIOS. Just research your model or see if you can find such a BIOS switch.

Ok, I loaded a ROM that seems to be not the one my GPU needs. I have a saved backup of the original bios it came with(bought from miners) how do I flash it back to it? The problem is that the monitor gets no signal from the GPU, I tried plugging the monitor to the motherboard and still nothing. When I remove the GPU, the PC works again using the onboard graphics. I have: msi b450m pro vdh max mobo Ryzen 5 2400g(with built in graphics) How do i get it back to before? Edit 1: I have managed to enable the onboard graphics while the non-working GPU is plugged in due to some MSI bios changes which forces the PC to choose the onboard graphics as the primary. I get the error code 43 in dxdiag like you do when you showed the wrong bios flashed. Problem is, when I want to use the flashing tool, it only shows my onboard graphics and not my rx 580. How do I proceed now? How do I choose the rx 580 as the one who needs a reflashing of bios? It only shows my vega 11 onboard graphics card. Edit 2: Never mind, I fixed it. After the steps I did in edit 1, I just had to open the flashing tool again and load image the backedup bios Rom. Then program, then restart and reset the motherboard bios settings back to default so it would then automatically choose the discrete GPU(rx 580) on start up. Then removed the hdmi from my motherboard and reconnected it to the GPU again. This is for people who freaked out thinking they bricked their GPU permanently.

Hi! I was having the same trouble not being able to force my vega graphics with my rx 570 plugged in, but I followed your steps from edit 1 and finally managed to do so. The problem I'm facing now is that each time I try to go back again i to the BIOS utility to reinstall my backup file, my computer completely freezes after clicking on "run as admin" on ATI flash utility. Run some hardware diagnostics. You might have an issue with the hard drive, memory, or something on the board. The GPU shouldn't crash the system. If you can, try another machine.

I believe the BIOS switch is a safety switch that is there to prevent or allow changes to the BIOS, so when flashing make sure it is enabled.

It's a pretty extensive list but doesn't include every BIOS. Check the manufacturer's website in that case.

Hey man I need help. I flashed my GPU bios and it wouldn’t boot after that. However I was able to reset my whole pc and reinstall windows and now it works and I can do normal stuff. However I play video games and when I installed my GPU drivers for my rx 580 my screen instantly turned blue when it tried to open. Therefore I had to boot in safe mode and uninstall my drivers which was successful. Then when I tried to flash my bios with ati flash my screen instantly turned blue when I tried to open it. Yes I did try to run it as administrator. However I downloaded what I was told to be the default version of the bios from searching it up. I flashed the GPU bios via cmd prompt and it worked. However I’m not sure if it fully worked. When I flashed my GPU bios with cmd prompt my screen turned blue. I let it sit there and it reset my pc. I opened GPU Z and check the bios version and it was the default one. But I still get a blue screen when I try to open ati flash and install drivers. Do you have any idea what the problem is.

That sounds more like a motherboard/CPU/Bus issue than a GPU issue. I would try to flash the GPU using another computer and see if you get better results.

I have narrowed down 5 bios versions that are compatible (I hope) and I will have to test each and every one of them. I also know that there are newer bios versions and older ones I can get from my manufacturer Bc I asked them to send me the latest one and they did. I will try to ask for older versions and even the stock one if they can get it. If these don’t work can you recommend any fixes?

I have a 8gb asus strix 480 but when I look up the the device iD it shows in gpuZ on google it says that number belongs to a sapphire rx 480 8gb nitro plus, does anyone know why this is? Could it maybe be that the card is actually an sapphire card but with an asus cooler and backplate (I don’t think this is the case because all the rgb stuff and connectors seem to be connected properly

Not sure about that one. Try flashing with your best guess of what the ROM should be and check again. I have never encountered that situation.

I tried to flash a few Roms but the problem is that when I try to flash an strix bios it tells me it is the wrong subsystem ID (gpuZ tells me the same) so I can’t flash a single one of the strix rx480 Roms available on techpowerup (bdw I also looked on the pcb to see if it maybe was a sapphire card with a strix cooler mounted on by the previous owner but this is not the case) so right now I can only flash roms that are made for sapphire cards and none of them work correctly (144hz doesn’t work and i can’t use DisplayPort. Gaming performance seems fine tho)

Do you have integrated video in your motherboard or a 2nd PCIE slot? Sometimes you load the wrong ROM and you can't boot the computer. It's probably actually booting up all the way to the login, but you can't see it since the GPU is bricked. To un-brick you need to plug the monitor into another video port either on the motherboard or another card. Go back and try again - look very carefully at the ID, memory clock speeds, and brand of memory. All must match what GPUz displays. Flash again. I had to flash a couple of mine 2 or 3 time to find the correct one.

It's not dual BIOS as far as I am aware; that's the switch that locks it so that it cannot be flashed. In the case that it is dual BIOS, then just pay attention to the position of the switch and use that BIOS for your actual gaming, but I am pretty sure it's just a lockout switch.

Have you checked out the gigabyte rx 6600 bios? I'm trying to look for it and found it but the GPU memory is set at 500 mhz. Why? The card's max GPU speed is over 2500 mhz. So I can't figure out why tech powerup has their VGA bios memory set so low.

Dude this video is like 6 years old - tech powerup's list might be quite outdated by now. It's been a HOT minute since I had a flash a video card. I would check gigabyte's website for the proper source files for the BIOS. The tools however should all work just fine for the flashing process itself.

Your hardware is damaged I would say. If you found the correct ROM online and it is mismatched, that could mean it didn't match the program of the logic chip, however, an incorrect ROM can also give a mismatch.

Yeah I'd say check GPUz and verify whether or not it is the correct ROM. It probably wouldn't hurt to re-flash the correct one, even if it is what you already have. Then try again.

First, check the card using the Direct X diagnostic tool shown in the video. If it shows any errors, the wrong BIOS is installed. Make sure all numbers match up and when you load the correct one, run the Direct X diagnostic tool again and it will show no errors.

Hey Marty I follwed your steps for my rx570 and when I go find the bios on techpower up and download the rom I keep getting and P/N mismatch error and have no clue whats wrong or what I could be doing wrong.

Double and triple check serial number, the brand of memory as well as the model. It must all match perfectly

In this case, you'll need to use onboard video, or a 2nd, known good, video card. Boot up with the display coming from one of those alternative sources and then flash.

Any idea for my problem? I have rx580 8gb, work fine, but when I buy monitor with HDMI... Have no signal before Windows fully loaded... When I enter in the bios, i get black screen, when I change to the oldest monitor, all work fine (DVI)

Bizzare indeed, but I would say your card is fine. Double-check the BIOS specs with GPUz and if all checks out, update the drivers.

Try try again. That happened to me, and it was my own oversight. You'll need a board with onboard graphics support at this point though.

Definitely a problem with the video card. A BIOS flash may not fix it as I think there is something physically broken on the board. Try the GPU in another PC or as least another known good GPU in your current machine to verify

Download the ROM again and then reinstall ATI flash and GPUz and try again using a known good video port (on motherboard or secondary GPU)

@@MartyUlrich I tried again to run the amdvbflashwin file (version 2.93) and got the message "Cannot find discrete ATI video card". Using the onboard primary vga. There is definitely a removable VGA on the machine. Please help me, thank you!

I think you'll need a compatible video card to boot Windows, with the R7 installed alongside. I am not aware of a Mac version of the TechpowerUp software, but check their site!

I don't think ATI flash will do that because it is integrated with the motherboard and therefore the only way to flash that GPU is to flash the BIOS of the motherboard, which is a completely different process.

Okay i bought used asus r9 380 and it was mining but when i changed bios and installed drivers, they couldn't install no matter which bios i install i get error 43, is there any fix ?

I am not familiar with that error. So you cannot even install drivers for it? Does Windows recognize the device? I would check the device manager first. If it shows that it is there, even with generic drivers, then run Direct X Diagnostics. If you are dead sure you have the correct BIOS and it still returns errors in DX Diagnostics, then you might have a physically damaged card. The heat from mining can do that.

Gpu-Z says 'BIOS reading not supported on this device.' and then ATIFlash says 'Cannot find discrete ATI video card.' I guess I'm screwed... The GPU I'm trying to fix is an old RX570 4Gb used for mining. Tried running these programs through my onboard Ryzen 2400g output since the RX gives only black screen and the PC won't boot at all. By the way, both HWinfo and gpu-z read the discrete card although with incorrect clock speeds. Is there any hope for this card or should I just toss it in the bin and be done with it? :')

i have a question sir, i tried to install a new bios file because i got mine from mining. It's Powercolor rx 580 4gb. And after i installed it and reboot it there's no display or anything. My motherboard is kinda old. Core i5 3570, LGA 1155. I tried to remove the pci on the gpu and let it sit on the motherboard. It boot up and when i came to check na DXDIAG, it's not reading the gpu. I don't know what to do next and i need help. Thanks!

If it was working before the BIOS flash, it was the wrong BIOS. Just go back and check the list again. Every detail that you get from GPUz must match 100% to the BIOS file you flash. Even if the device ID is two digits different, it'll brick the card.

@@terencegrageda386 it won't work via USB. You need to have the card plugged into the PCI 16x slot or it will not be detected and unable to flash again. If you don't have an onboard video output with your motherboard, you'll need another board.

Either the card has malfunctioned or there is a BIOS switch that's turned off

@@MartyUlrich Nvm, I finally figured out what I did wrong. The GPU settings were not set properly so it kept overheating. I think that was my official, "idiot moment," of the year. Running great now. I do have some advice though for those wondering if updating to Windows 11 is a good idea. Hindsight, it is. I've noticed a massive performance boost for games and even my bitminer. Just keep in mind its a good idea to run Windows Update as often as possible. Don't be an idiot like me and only update monthly, check every day if possible. Now I'm just waiting for Microsloth to release an update for the Taskbar Settings to not be such a headache to manage. I run dual monitors and want it in the second monitor.

@@MartyUlrich Lol to late now. Already updated. So far its actually well made and if you're a gamer like me you'll notice a massive improvement on game stability. Win 11 looks like it was custom made for gamers in mind, has a lot of features that hide interface and HUD options to make the experience more immersive. Resize Bar is also hard encoded into the OS to. Currently my only gripe is that Taskbar has no drop down option. If it does end up giving me grief though it comes with a built in Roll Back function IF it ends up being a brick. Now everyone else watching this vid Marty is right, don't dive head first before upgrading to Windows 11. Do your research first, see if its an actual benefit. I'm just stating my own personal experience.

ROM means Read-Only-Memory; somehow the ROM you downloaded got corrupted, like a scratched DVD. Try downloading it again from another source; try the manufacturer's website or google search now that you know what you need.
